First of all, great video, thanks for sharing. It’s a sign of strong character that you can share your mistakes and help others learn from them.
That being said, if you caught the elevation difference in the process, why didn’t you pour an additional 2” or so of concrete as part of your flatwork pour to make up the elevation?
You hit the nail on the head about ‘trusting’ the homeowner. Doing so will fuck you over every time.

Project came out amazing! To conclude you didn't lose any money at all. You said it yourself the excavator didn't fit. An extra pallet of mortar couple hundred bucks more. If you had 4 extra guys more then that was poor planning and the project lacked guidance. If you hired independent non licensed guys by the day, believe me they know how to make a job last until the next landscaper is ready for them. If the customer is happy this job will land you more work. You came out on top.

Not necessarily! Everything from labor to gas to materials are much more expensive. Margins are pretty similar unless you can Jack up the rates for wealthy clients, which is a possibility, but not always the case

What was the total spent on labor?
Can I get a break down
On how much total on labor. And how the guys are paid per hr or per day.. or how you paid them..
    And then the profit..
    Breakdown on cost of materials..

    • @luistirado827
      @luistirado827 Рік тому

Be honest if the workers cost you a lot better run because you are not earning much money, if the labor you pay a lot is because you do not know how to do your accounts.

Regardless of the error, that job is beautiful !!! You guys did a fantastic job !!!
We don't install Hardscape flagstone because we don't do concrete.
But, it cost $45 sq.ft. for Hardscape flagstone 20 years ago. I think your flagstone rate might be too low.
I charge $25 per.sq.ft plus materials for flagstone soft install.
Either way, a beautiful job !!

I was talking to the owner of Bay Cities Landscape yesterday at Lane irrigation. I was surprised to find out that my paver rates are 25% higher than his. He's raising his rates now too.

Always save money for the customers. I try to put myself in the customers shoes and think about how I can scam or pull a fast one on the contractor. Basically how I lose on every job is I only bill for materials. So i might make 200 a day but I easily spend that on 4 sheets of plywood. Two bags of grasss. Then I have to make sure I leave several dollars for gas. I can never cover my overhead and I end up having to get a job where I don’t have to buy the material. This way I can save some dough, buy some tools and prepare myself for the next time I give someone a deal.
It costs me so much money to work landscaping or a construction project that when I’m working it comes out to 1- 10 dollars a hour. Verses minimum wage is over 10. I work as a mechanic making 25 a hour to be able to get these deals over to the customers. So be happy your able to help the customer on this job. They will be excited to know you took a little loss and the guys were still paid.
