Don’t hold your breath mate. I was too caught up chatting and didn’t record as much as I’d have liked. He’s releasing a. Video on his channel as well tomorrow
@@CyclingwithRuss originally from Ramsbottom but live in Chester now. I do most of my riding/training up near you though in the ribble valley. Some great hill climbs up there 👌🏻. Have you managed to increase your V02 max for the Fred?
I have yeah but not sure what the numbers are as I haven’t got training peaks premium and can’t make sense of the numbers on Apple Watch. I’m feeling in a good place though and ready to box off this last week of hard training
@@CyclingwithRuss I’ve massively improved mine. 55 on my garmin now. I don’t bother with the v02 on my Apple Watch as it seems to be so inaccurate. Last week of training for me too. Then it’ll be a week of stretching and a sports massage before the tour de manc. Hamstrings are painful after this week (lack of stretching).
@michaelmaplesden1630 I’m on wahoo and don’t where it shows on that either 🙈 I’ll get the numbers off my coach this week and see what they are now. My legs aren’t feeling great either atm. Should be ok to hit it hard tomorrow though
Great to see you both out and about. Hope Scott enjoyed the Cragg. Question when you going to start tapering for the Fred and bike set up gearing - l am thinking of a sub-compact ?
I’ve got 1 week left of this training block and I assume I’ll be on taper then although I’ve got another event the week before. I’m going with an 11-40 but not fitted yet
I last did the Fred on the 2016. I did it on a 50-34 with an 11-40 with a goat link ….. guess that’s what you are going for. I did manage to get up both hardknott and whynose without getting off. It’s a good choice - did it in 8.30 hours good amount of that time was at the feed station. This time l might take my own food and get drinks from the shops
That’s a great time matey and one that I’d be happy with as well. Yeah I’ve got the goat link but haven’t fitted it yet. Going to get it fitted this week as I want to go do a big climb next Friday and test it out. I think I’ll give the first station a miss and get some food off the Mrs en the route. What time you setting off at ?
Any advice for the descents on the Fred? I'm that weirdo that loves slogging it out up the climbs but not a confident descender being quite new to the sport @cyclethenation
My thoughts - Take a break at the top and just reset yourself. Get into a comfortable position that you will be able to hold as trying to swap positions can cause issues on the technical descents. Keep your eyes open of what is in front and remember there are faster people coming from behind you so just be wary of a shout 'on your right!'. All the best. Oh sometimes putting a light jacket on as it can get fairly cool on the way down
Scotts going to cover this in his videos he’s making. Should be out in a few days so stay tuned to his channel. I’ll share it as will on my community tab once he’s released it
Ensure your brakes are 100% working. Have them professionally checked before ride. Road surface will be dangerous particularly the steepest ones such as Hardknott and Wrynose. Having crashed on one of these and broken an arm always stay on brakes do not let speed build up. Ensure have lowest gearing possible for ascents. Honister descent also dangerous and avoid temptation to simply let go as some nasty bends. Obey all warnings on route as organisers know best.
@bernadetteoliver290 I’ve just been and bought new pads today for the event and had them bled as well. I’m a nervous decender on roads I don’t know so I’ll be taking my time getting down them. Also fitting a 11-40 cassette tonight to the bike
@@CyclingwithRuss one further important point. Use the right pressure on tyres. Do not pump to maximum pressures recommended. This will compromise road holding plus add to problems on descent due to the rutted roads. Ask around for best pressure to ride on for your weight and road conditions. Maybe also use newish tyres to ensure puncture resistance maximised.
I’m good mate. I filmed a video last week but the footage was messed up so had nothing to put out. Got the tour de manc this Sunday so hopefully I’ll have a video out on Monday before the big one
Great to see you both sticking it out, who knows what the weather will be like in May. Great also to see Scottt out and about :-)
It’s got to change soon! Honestly it’s been a tough few months
This could be interesting with you two! :-) Cant wait.

My training hasn’t been the best this year for the Fred. Would like to have done more.
I’ve got the tour de manc as a practice ride the week before 😂
I’m doing the tour de manc as well. Where you based ? What route on the tour de manc are you doing ?
