As an Oilers fan, I totally agree. Vancouver wanted it more in the final 40 minutes and it showed. The guys on the power play were trying to be too cute and their passes were getting picked off so easily. It's not on Bouch, it's on everybody except Pickard. There's no reason they couldn't have won this game other than they didn't try to win, and the Canucks did.

Ekholm is the steadiest D the Oilers have. Bouchard is good offensively, but prone to gaffs and while Darnell Nurse is a physical presence, he’s wildly inconsistent at both ends. The others are borderline NHLers. The Oilers get by because they have McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH as a solid 2 way centre and a couple of wingers who can finish. The problem is that they spent so much on their top players that they didn’t have enough for a veteran goalie or any depth. Shutdown their top 2 players and it’s game, set, match. But because McDavid and Draisaitl are so good, they’re a contender.

Know where the moneys spent? On Nurse, and a goalie who will never get back to the NHL. Our forwards are signed to great deals (for now, some due for new contracts). I've been a Bouchard critic for a long time. But this year his defensive game has improved. Within the playoffs, horrendous gaffe aside, his defensive game at times has been borderline #1 Dman tier. He needs to be more consistent for sure, but if next year his defensive stats take another step, I think he'll develop to be a bonafide #1 D who gets a $9.5M contract

If Bouchard stays around a ppg next year, he can easily get 9 million or more. With Draisaitl more than likely getting 13-14 million on his next deal and McDavid 15 million or more on his. There is a lot of money getting tied up in those 3 over the next couple years

I agreed, it's not all Bouchards fault that lost the game. It is the fact that Edmonton does not have a cohesive TEAM. They have sporadic generous plays, mostly from one player. Conner McDavid. If you want to win the Stanley Cup, you can't just stand around waiting for the plays to develop by one person. Everyone needs to generate plays and passes to the open teammates.

Because the regular season doesn't really matter much when it comes to playoffs and is virtually irrelevant. We've seen teams go undefeated against another team during reg season only to lose in the playoffs against that team. Jets/aves this year, Boston/ Florida last year, Edmonton/Vegas last year (3:1). During the playoffs other than game 5. Edmonton has outshot Vancouver every game, had more puck possession every game had more offensive zone time every game. They outplayed Vancouver basically every game but that doesn't matter when you have a pylon in net. Game 5 Vancouver was dominant, but it was the only game so far where they looked like the genuine better team. I think it was game 3 were Edmonton was basically as dominant out shooting by a large margin but Skinner let in a weak goal. Even Vancouver fans were saying "we didn't deserve to win tonight" which is what Edmonton fans would have said had Edmonton won game 5. Imagine if Pickard was in net for the whole series and played as good as he did game 5. This series would likely have been over with Edmonton taking the series. I understand the counter is "well if we had Demko" and that maybe true but it would be a elite level goaltender vs a backup. Edmonton's Achilles heel is their goaltending.

So when the Jets went 4:0 against Colorado that must mean they have the better team right? Except in the playoffs the Jets wom one game. Well are they still the better team because they have a 5:4 record against aves? During the regular season yes but during the playoffs, no. So far it's been van wins1 Edmonton wins 1 van wins one Edmonton wins 1. And most the Vancouver games (game 5 excluded) Edmontons goaltender let them down with soft goals in. Oilers had More shots, more possession, more offensive zone time, thud is the tell tale signs of the more dominant team. Ask yourself this had Edmonton scored the last goal on Vancouver in game 5 making the series 3:2 Edmonton would you say they were the better team that game because they won and they got the results aka a big W despite being dominated all game long? And all 3 goals against are avoidable. Pickard has to make the save on Soucy. The 2nd is on Bouchard, but there was plenty of sloppy defense before.
The Miller goal, it`s a faceoff with less than one minute in the Vancouver zone, lost by Drai and then the Oilers kinda had it but gave it away.
