I don't think he underrated at all. He's considered one of the finest singer writers ever, a legend, RnR HoF ... what else is there. Probably the best "heartland" performer out there and one of the finest musicians out of Michigan ever and that's saying something
'Wish I didn't know now what I didn't Know then.' Seger is a fantastic singer and songwriter. And it never hurts to have members of The Eagles on backing vocals.
When I was a young man listening to this kind of music, I wondered if I would ever sit back and remember my life like this. Everything was new, I liked the music but couldn't relate. Now that I am older, my body and mind broken with the best years way behind me, it feels different. I hear Seger's voice and lyrics, but I feel the sentiment and look back at my own experiences. I hope young people learn to cherish what they have. Life is fragile and really, really short. Don't waste it.
Well said! I agree, there are so many songs I have a different perspective of now that I’m older. I just found these music reaction videos, and having such a kick watching the young ones enjoy a song I’ve loved for decades. Makes me love it all over again.
I'm sorry to hear that your body and mind are broken. My body is betraying me in my old age, but I'll never feel broken. I love the life I led with few regrets and some songs make me nostalgic for the past.....happy that I lived it

I remember reading a story about how Seger played "Like a Rock" to Don Henley to see what he thought. When he was done, Henley said something to the effect of, "What the hell, man... you can't use a four-syllable word ('unencumbered') in a rock song!" 😄
When I was much younger I used to listen to Bob Seger when I was traveling by motorcycle. Roll me Away was a great song for long rides that deserves more attention IMHO. (Along with "Turn the Page" and "Get out of Denver")

Also revisit Paul Davis: Cool Night, Sweet Life, '65 Love Affair. Eddie Rabbitt: Drivin' My Life Away, You & I, Step By Step, Warning Sign, Someone Could Lose A Heart Tonight! Keep smiling!! 🎶❤️🎶
Shame On The Moon is especially special to me. I dunno why. Night Moves might legitimately be the best pop song written during the entire '70's. It's right upt there next to Hotel California, American Pie, and Bohemian Rhapsody.
The older I get, the more meaningful this song becomes. At age 71, looking back at the innocence, excitement, freedom of youth. But "still running against the wind."
Started following Bob around 1969. Used to see him every time he booked a gig in Cleveland at the small bars. In the 70s my band covered this song and I got to sing it. Now, at the ripe young age of 70, the line, "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then", really hits home with me. Truer words were never spoken! J and Amber, you two always make my day. I wish you and everyone else on this channel much love and peace. ❤✌
I love that you followed Bob since the beginning so I thought you’d like this story. A friend of mine who is right around 70/72 or so lived in Waukegan illinois. His highschool had a battle of the bands one night at the local roller rink- two unknowns at the time, but Seger was one of the bands. Well, his highschool picked the other band and booed Bob and the silver bullet band off. My friend to this day just kicks himself for being a “dumb teenager” back then. Of course the other band that won never did a thing!! Anyway I love hearing him tell us that story after a couple of beers and a Seger or two song on the jukebox! Too crazy!
Ok, story time, but mine is pretty weak. I grew up in a northern suburb of Detroit in the 60’s. My sister was 2years older and into rock and roll at the time. Bob Seger played at a very small joint she went to called the Teen Center in our town pretty often, it was a non-alcoholic hangout the city put together. But alas, I was too young and withdrawn to go there, but as Seger continued to gain fame I remembered… “hey isn’t that the guy that…?” Much later, in the 90s, I co-owned a record store in the same general area, and Kid Rock would come in with his cardboard box full of home-made “bootleg tapes” to consign in our store. He really was a “Kid” back then… They ALL start at the bottom, some work hard & get lucky, too!
@@ffjsb yeah, that's the normal saying. I always take that line to mean it was much simpler to be young and innocent than to grow up with the weight of the world on your shoulders. However, I do wish I would have purchased Microsoft or Apple stock when they debuted on Wall Street! LOL
Two amazing lines in this that we can all pretty much relate to. “Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then” and “surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends” Heavy stuff. Bob was an amazing songwriter.
About 5 years ago, Seger was in concert in Columbus, Ohio for the last time. At the end of the concert, he sat at the piano and sang this to his sister who just lost her husband. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.
J&A, you'll love his "Night Moves", "Hollywood Nights", "The Fire Down Below", "Her Strut" and more!! (the last 3 are bangers!!!) edit- Glad y'all like the Blues Brothers Movie, an all-time favorite of mine.
This reminds me of high school. Bob Seger was big mid 70's to mid 80's. He has a down home feel to his music. "Hollywood Nights" is my favorite by him!
"Deadlines and commitments.... What to leave in, what to leave out" . Bob could definitely write a great line and did so many times. I think you guys should do a rocker from Live Bullet, the album that broke him nationally. Like Get Out of Denver, Nutbush City Limits, or Katmandu. The Silver Bullet Band in their home venue I think, Cobo Hall Detroit.
I use to listen to his 8 track so much I still can hear it changing tracks in the middle of songs. This was one of the that started on 1 track and finished on another.
I love how he talks about how when he was younger it was him and Janey running against the wind but now that he’s older and alone he seeks shelter against the wind. Then at the end he says he’s older but he’s still running against the wind. He’s such a story teller.
Amber I've been listening / watching your channel for about a year now. Truer words were never spoken. Bob seger in my opinion is the quintessential storyteller.
I'm such a huge Bob Seger fan and he was a few years before my generation but my dad's taste in music inspired me to pick up the guitar and force myself to practice my dad was a good guitar player, performer and singer but I just couldn't learn from him at the age of 15-16 so I stopped in a music store in 1989 maybe 1990 and I purchased two chord books full of songs, one was the best of Bob Seger and the other was the best of The Eagles! Not really the music of my generation but music I absolutely loved and really wanted to be able to entertain myself and I just continued to learn and still learning today at 47 years old.
This song was in the movie “Forrest Gump” that’s when I started liking it again! It was such a thought worthy song with meaning! Imagine running against the wind! Running wild and free! I remember those days!
Very similar story to mine. My dad was a guitar player and songwriter. I grew up on CCR and the Eagles, with some Seger in between. I bought a Les Paul at 18 and have been playing ever since. I surpassed him on guitar but he is a far superior songwriter than me. I'm now 46 and still play every day, though my bar band days are long gone.
Yay, more Seger! It's been a hot minute! This song is such a vibe. You appreciate it even more, the older you get. I think the next song by him you should check out is; "Like a Rock", or "The Famous final scene". Both phenomenal!! 🤘😊
Absolutely! I've always really dug the song, but it's taken on so much more meaning for me the older I've gotten. The nostalgia, the regrets, the memories, all come back whenever I hear this tune.
"Against The Wind" (1980) peaked @ #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was Seger's 17th charted single. Between 1968 thru 1991, Seger charted 32 singles in the Hot 100, 7 in the Top 10 including one #1, (not one you might guess- at least I didn't) -- his 31st single "Shakedown," (1987) from" Beverly Hills Cop 2."
@@rsw1227 I guess they like to do it "cold." When I have time, I try to add some stats to give a better understanding re the level of chart success the record attained and when it was released in the span of the artist's career (beginning, middle, end, etc.)
One of my favs from Bob Seger. That piano always gives me chills, goosebumps. Touches something deep inside me. And the lyrics. As I age, more layers of meaning are revealed.
Seger is a great song writer. You analysis keep getting more and more focused as your musical library increases. Such a joy to visit with you each evening.
The return of Seger. Love it. That’s Glen Frye from the Eagles singing background. They were very close. Wrote some lyrics for each other over the years.
"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" one of the most evocative lines ever written. Who hasn't had that thought run through your mind at some point. And I know that there is a lot of comments about that line. but, that's because it's an incredible piece of wordsmithing and it brings out different emotions in different people but everyone wants to talk about it.
"Trying To Live My Life Without You" and "Feel Like A Number" are great songs by Bob that don't get enough attention. "Trying To Live My Life Without You" is a cover but does sound like a song Bob would write.
I was 16 in 1978. Without Bob Seger the special memories of that era I have, would not be the same. His early music is incredible, he is incredible and has quite the arsenal of musical gems. I can name 35 of them right of the top of my head. (Team Bob Seger)
Top ten of all time. Seger is a great songwriter. "Deadlines and commitments What to leave in What to leave out" The older you get, the deeper you feel those lyrics
When Bob Seger did his Farewell Tour stop thru Tulsa I was in the rafters of BOK Center keeping a spotlight on him at all times for 3hrs making a small fortune being up so high . This was after I rigged all audio for the show . Then when show was over I had to help pack all gear away and load trucks for the next show on the tour.
One of the greatest ever songwriters, and when Bob sings, it feels like he's having a one to one conversation with you. One of his best, and often overlooked songs, is "Understanding"......the piano and female backing vocals always give me goose bumps.
The thing that I love about Mr. Seger is he is one of if not the best ad lib. singers that has ever been in the industry. In every single one of his songs, usually around the break halfway through he starts that ad lib. and does it more and more as the song progresses. My favorite is "night moves". Once he starts down the finish line to that song his ad lib. is off the charts. I know, my music nerd came out on this comment but I cannot help it. LOL! Keep up the good work guys!
I saw Bob on the tour for this album. It was definitely one of my favorite concerts ever. If you listen closely, you can hear Bob’s buddies, Glenn Frey and Don Henley singing back up vocals.
I saw Bob Seger in Cincinnati around 1977 we were on the stage off to the side a little right behind the the band and Bob Seger would turn and sing to people behind really great show.
So glad you keep going back to Bob . I've been to at least 100 concerts . Including huge artist like , the Stones , the who , Elton John ..... but Bob Seger was my favorite. He sounds as good live as he does on his records , and I've never seen an artist smile as much as him . If you want to hear something a little faster by him . Try : Get out of Denver . 😀
Seger is my all-time favorite singer/songwriter. I've been blessed to have been to four of his concerts. My Grandfather gave me a love of the piano and sooo many of his songs feature piano. I can dance with my husband to his songs all night long.
Hey guys, Don here. Been a Seger fan since the mid 70s. Looking back now, I can relate to Something in his lyrics almost every song....in this one especially. Night Moves is also a special favorite. In the song he mentions a 60 Chevy. Mine was a 72 wagon. I can still remember being parked in the woods with a special lady at the time. She was going back to Michigan the next day. We just layed in that big bench front seat and I held her all night...nothing more. Good memories. Ya'll take care. Love you both.
Another great song from Bob Seger. Still lots of gems left. Try “Rock and Roll Never Forgets”, “The Fire Down Below” or play both “Travelin’ Man and Beautiful Loser” from Live Bullett album. You have to play them together or you’ll miss one of the greatest transitions from one song to another ever.
Bob had so many huge hits...this one is one of his best. He had a string of albums in the 70's -early 80's, that were so good, they all seemed like Greatest Hits albums, it was amazing.
My favorite Bob Seger song BY FAR is "Old Time Rock & Roll", both for the music, & for the sentiment. Also, the beautiful piano music in "Against the Wind" brought to mind 2 other great piano hits & their singers/players: "The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby & The Range, & "No One Is To Blame" by Howard Jones! Jay & Amber, please react to these songs & artists.
You've done some soft stuff, but Bob's bangers are even better. Rock and Roll Never Forgets, Katmandu (Live), The Fire Down Below. Feel Like A Number, Sunspot Baby, Betty Lou's Getting Out Tonight, Her Strut, Horizontal Bop, Hollywood Nights ...
This one of those rare albums that every song is great. The keyboard/organ in this song is just killer. The story telling and play on words is superb songwriting.
"Night Moves", my favorite Bob Seger song. I've always felt that Bob Segar had more of a "Midwestern" or "Heartland" rock vibe, like Iowa or Indiana small town sound rather than a country vibe.
Yes, exactly! Not a country artist, but his music resonates across several genres of listeners. If I'm not mistaken, he's from Detroit, Michigan? So much great music from that town.
I’m older now and still running against the wind

"Somewhere Tonight" or "The Ring"
So true. I thought it was a good song when I was young, but it hits so much harder now that I am in my mid 40's.
'Like a Rock'.......BUT.....they should watch his video.
So many great Seger hits “Hollywood Nights” “Shinin Brightly” “Feel Like a Number” “ Nutbush City Limits” “ Katmandu” and many more
"Against The Wind" (1980) peaked @ #5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Great to see your name again, Mr. Fadburn. :)
Wouldn't it make for a better reaction if THEY (and other channels) would do this before they listen or after if they want to go in "cold"?
@@Shrykespeare Hi Patrick. Thanks for the greeting.
@@markfadness9204 Anytime, bruh. You and Joel are/were my spirit animals.
@@rsw1227 I guess they like to do it "cold." When I have time, I try to add some stats to give a better understanding re the level of chart success the record attained and when it was released in the span of the artist's career (beginning, middle, end, etc.)
Love Anything Bob Seger does! Hes timeless!
Love everything Bob Seger has ever done, Mainstreet has got to be one of my top 5! That's a story if I have ever heard one.
One of my favs from Bob Seger. That piano always gives me chills, goosebumps. Touches something deep inside me. And the lyrics. As I age, more layers of meaning are revealed.
The piano reminds me of Bruce Hornsby. And that's meant to be a compliment. Hornsby is great!!!
There is no bad Bob Seger song. Love his music, voice, lyrics. He does have some faster songs like Katmandu.
Yes! Totally recommend Katmandu!
The live version is best!
Amen MsKrystal
... and 'Betty Lou's Getting Out Tonight', & 'Get Out Of Denver'- either one will blow your hair back!!
Sunspot Baby and Fire Down Below are bangers, essential and vintage Bob Seger.
Seger is a great song writer. You analysis keep getting more and more focused as your musical library increases. Such a joy to visit with you each evening.
My all time favorite by Bob :) The lyrics fit my life for a long time.
Bob Seger is one of the best. Love his music.
Peace...
This is such a great song on so many levels.
Love, love, Bob Seger.
Like a Rock is a must listen
The return of Seger. Love it. That’s Glen Frye from the Eagles singing background. They were very close. Wrote some lyrics for each other over the years.
I didn't know that that was Glen Frey.
Night Moves and Turn The Page is a must. For a great cover - his version of Cest la Vie by Chuck Berry ( you will love it)
They did Turn The Page. It's in the video list.
@@cassiereroni thnx
Cest la Vie is a fun song.
They did Night Moves, Main Street and Old Time Rock and Roll as well 🙂
@@ruthparker9756 thank you for info
I could listen to him singing the dictionary. I had a major crush on him, when I was a teen....
Personally I think his best album was live bullet there are no bad songs on there
A classic!!!
I know every word to every song on that one. Every beat, every pause. Seger ROCKS
Any time someone mentions "Turn The Page" the first words I think are "This is from '72 also. Bought being on the road..."
"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" Such an incredible line.
I absolutely love this, it's such a feelgood rhythm 🇬🇧
Top ten of all time. Seger is a great songwriter.
"Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in
What to leave out"
The older you get, the deeper you feel those lyrics
Bob Seger has so many great songs! Come to Papa is a good one. Like a Rock is really good too
Rock and Roll Never Forgets and Still the Same are great ones to react to. Actually you can't go wrong with any of his songs!
I caught him in Boston a few years before his farewell with J. Geils. Even in the later years, both could still blow the doors off the place.
Bob is great. One of my favorites. So many great songs.
"Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends" - what a killer lyric that is. Great song choice as always you guys, peace and love from Canada!
MY FAVORITE !! Bob Seeger Song - I can totally relate throughout this wonderful Ballad///
No 2 ways about it ... Bob Seger is a stunning musician and song writer!!
This is such a fantastic song!! Great reaction video!! 😀
@RobSquadReactions
OMG I forgot all about that transition. YES!!!!! FanTAStic recommendation!!!!!
"Beautiful Loser", the studio version from the Beautiful Loser album, is an awesome song in its own right, too.
Yes, yes, I loved it when they did that❤ It was Bob Seger for like 7min on the radio. 🫶🫶
He was unbelievable in concert. He is part of my life forever.
Bob had so many huge hits...this one is one of his best. He had a string of albums in the 70's -early 80's, that were so good, they all seemed like Greatest Hits albums, it was amazing.
my dad was driving me to work one Saturday and this came on the radio. My stoic quiet dad got quite emotional listening to this. Great memories.
💯✨ Storyteller. This deserves 💯 points out of 10. Paul Harris - piano on "Against the Wind"
"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then". My Favorite Rock and Roll lyric!!
Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band = Country + Southern Rock + Blues + Folk. Result: The ear asks for more. Thanks to you two.
He have a beautiful voice he can relly sing it's a beautiful song i Love you Bob Seger i Love all your songs may God contuinsl to Bless you Thank You
You’d love “Roll me away”!
Been listening to Bob since the 90's. This music is best played when you're on a Country road.
"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then."
This song has my favorite lyric of his "wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then" brilliant writing in this beautiful song.
