Incomparably beautiful performance of this Romantic masterpiece with clear touch of the piano, silky sound of the violin and deep sound of the cello. The sound quality is also fairly high as a recording of 1952. The USSR was really a musical wonder in the 20th century!
One of my very favourite pieces of chamber music. I remember first hearing it as a teenager and being completely hooked from the opening bars. Nobody writes melodies like the great Russian composers.
In the case of Tchaikovsky, this feeling was supported by the experience that in his earlier incarnations he was sometimes a ballet dancer. We once performed together for a long time. There are moments when dance helps the performance and it should not be applied in a patterned way. In this case, I mean when the turn of time comes to escape for the ballet dancer and the pianist and the composing is unpredictable. Tchaikovsky has the most flexible mind of any man I have ever spoken to. I remember that he was my father once, and now I started to remember the previous time as well.
As far as the performers were concerned, this was by far the best version of this work I have heard. I like the delightful little disjointed Mazurka, The sound recording perhaps needs some digital work though. Thanks very much for the download

This piece deserves these wonderful interpreters. Argerich, Kremer, and Kogan do justice to the sadness and pathos of Tschaikovsky's only piano trio - but what a trio! One of my favorites in the entire chamber repertory.

Jahrhundert!

Stellar performance of a masterpiece that has yet to receive its proper recognition. It's amazing that the old hokum about Tchaikovsky being some sort of moronic machine for beautiful tunes still persists. But I admit I'm enormously amused by those sage critics.
I believe that started with Moguchaya kuchka ( the Mighty group) of extremely nationalistic composers: Borodin, Mussorgsky, Rimsky- Korsakov, Kyui, who denounced Tchaikovsky’s music, as too pro- western, too Italian. Their friend writer Stasov, carried their verdict through the press.

Heifetz met Kogan, when Kogan was just 10, and predicted his great future. Kogan was an avid admirer of Heifetz. And he became the best violinist of all times in his country and maybe in the world in XX century.
Tchaikovsky can write a totally formless movement (first) where the themes just keep coming one after another. One theme leads seamlessly into the other so logically so full of feeling. There is no development of motifs. After finishing the series of themes he just repeats the whole series saying to the listener--- I've created something so beautiful I want you to hear it again relatively unchanged.
Tchaikovsky's way of creating music was always very sentimental, very natural. He created beautiful melodies, and wasnt as worried as other composers with the form and the technique. This makes many of his works unusual, and i also believe its the reason so much of his music sounds so romantic, in the purest sense of the word.
