I like this version a lot but I deeply love Wayne Hancock's original. Even Hank III says that Hank is more like his grand daddy that anyone. Wayne's video to this song is a love letter to life on the road, diners and motels.
i've heard this ong thousands of times and seeing you smile the way i did the first time and everytime after, its so cool to see, and Hank 3 just sounds so much like his grandad so much! He is a legend
Supposedly Hank 3 was playing at the Opry and Miss Minnie Pearl came up to him after the show. She'd known his grandpa and said to him " Lordy, honey, you're a ghost " .
Since you've often said that you didn't start out listening to traditional country music, I can help you if you like. Here's one for you: " The Lord Knows I'm Drinkin' " by Cal Smith.
I'm glad you found your way to the Hellbilly. This song absolutely echoes Hank Sr's music and voice. I've been wanting to suggest Hank 3, but I lost the album and couldn't remember any song titles except for 3's version of 'Cocaine Blues.'
When this first started I was convinced Hank 3 found one of Hank Sr's unrecorded songs. I checked and boy was I wrong. This is a cover of Wayne Hancock's 1995 song. Hank 3 sure makes it his. So much like his grandfather it is uncanny.
Love Hank III. Never heard Wayne Hancock's version, but not sure I could like it more than this! Hank III gives everything he does so much character. Agree with the 10!
Hank Jr. and Hank III both said Hancock sounds more like Sr than either of them. Wayne's original version is definitely better. Dude is the real deal. His sister is crazy talented too. Check out their "Summertime" duet.
As previous comment stated this is a Wayne Hancock tune from the mid 1990's. Wayne's version is slightly better, but both are very similar. Another good Hancock tune is "Double A Daddy".
I enjoy this version but Wayne Hancocks is better. 87 Southbound is a banger by Wayne. You've got much more from both artist to venture into. Blue Devil by Hank3 is a haunting song.
The album Hank III is full of great songs. Yeah first time I heard this I didn't know who it was. I swore it was hank. An old lost recording remix.....KOOL.
Don I'm going to completely honest. This is the first time I've been able to listen to a complete song without turning it off. I think he sounds like old Hank on this one
I think you’d really enjoy Take me by George Jones which has a video on UA-cam of him playing. Also, Jason Isbell Last of My Kind is great. Great reactions!
@lucas de la garza Thanks for the recs and the kind words. I’ll get to at least one of them in due course. And I’ll give you a Go Hawks! in honor of your screen name. The dude could play.
If you grew up in the American Southwest between the 70's to 2000s, this song will trigger memories of Motel 6 and Tom Bodett commercials. The original by Wayne Hancock is much better too. [Fun Fact: Jr. and III said hancock sounds more like Hank Sr than either of them]. Check it out. Also, the "Summertime" duet between Wayne and his sister is next level stuff too.
Hank 3 can yodel really well too. Wondering if he does in this song....listening, waiting.....(I think One Horse Town is a song he yodels in) Well this song is another great song by Hank 3. Nostalgic.
U already did spoil it. Geez if Ur supposed to be someone posting music as some sort of critic? Or whatever? Do some research 1st It was written by Wayne Hancock and it came out on his debut album on 9 /19/ 1995

His live video doesn't do justice so to the studio version that came out on Mr Hancock's debut album.
Agreed. I think it's also a love letter to Motel 6 and Tom Bodett.

Wayne the train Hancock original! Hank 3 is the Goat!
Thank you for giving him a 10. He deserved it.
Love Hank 111. He is so nice in person. Love his version of Johnny Cash's Cocaine Blues.
I'm glad you found your way to the Hellbilly. This song absolutely echoes Hank Sr's music and voice. I've been wanting to suggest Hank 3, but I lost the album and couldn't remember any song titles except for 3's version of 'Cocaine Blues.'
You've done it again Don! Didn't know this one, and it's really great! Thanks again

Wayne the TRAIN hancock does the original version
Hank didn't write this. Fellow named Wayne Hancock wrote it. Credit where credit is due.
Love Hank III. Never heard Wayne Hancock's version, but not sure I could like it more than this! Hank III gives everything he does so much character. Agree with the 10!

Wayne hancock is the og.
This song is a cover from Wayne Hancock
Miss Minnie( Pearl ) , who knew Hank Sr., saw Hank III., saw Hank III at a show and said " Lordy, honey. You're a ghost " !

Thank you, sir.
Hank III is a big fan of Wayne Hancock and has covered several of his songs in concert. You should check out Wayne.
This ×1000

Thanks Don ! Love it . I'd like to request a reaction to Billy Joe Shavers Low Down Freedom. You'll like it

Miss Minnie told him " Lordy, honey, you're a ghost" !
You should do a 2 parter of howlin at the moon, the one from hank Sr. And the one from Hank III back to back.
Don I'm going to completely honest. This is the first time I've been able to listen to a complete song without turning it off. I think he sounds like old Hank on this one
Can you please react to 5 Shots of Whiskey by Hank3, Good Sir?! Only if you've never heard it of course.
Love Hank 111 almost as much as Hank sr. Try "Getting drunk and falling down"
I think you’d really enjoy Take me by George Jones which has a video on UA-cam of him playing. Also, Jason Isbell Last of My Kind is great. Great reactions!

This is one of my favorite songs. I’d love to get your reaction to Ray Wylie Hubbard’s Outlaw Blood featuring Ashley McBride.
Wayne Hancock tune
True. But Hank's version does justice to the original.
Rick Trevino Honky Tonk Crowd
He really tore a strip off this one, didn't he?
Audio flashback, huh?

Do yourself a favor listen to the original release. And don't ruin it by talking when you post it !
Country IS the new R&R. Yes I am an old crank !
He sounds just like his grad daddy
