    Gedday Jack, as a small business owner and being tech minded I was open to the challenge of setting up our webpage in house. That was 10 years ago now. I recently started the third round of redoing our site as there are issues with the site and previous choices of WordPress themes and plugins. Elementor seemed to be the best option for ease of use and flexibility however PSI results weren’t encouraging. I’d looked at Gutenberg and it seemed clunky and not very friendly so I continued with Elementor but page speed was bothering me. I started watching your videos and I gave Gutenberg another crack. I cannot thank you enough for your clear and concise tutorials. I actually find Gutenberg quicker to use than Elementor and have almost completed the new site. Watching one of your other videos on what blocks to avoid has my PSI results consistently in the mid to high 90’s. I am using Kadence Theme and Blocks hosted with Cloudways. Keep up the great work cheers mate👍

    Totally agree with your comments about gtmetrix 👍 why use gtmetrix when google ( who are the ones serving up your site in search ) have their own tool . On another note though , speed is vital yes but so is the interaction of the visitors to your site. If google sees little to no interaction on your website then speed won’t matter as google will serve a website that has an over 80 score on speed and tons of interaction compared to a site with a score of 100 but little visitor interaction going on .
    Awesome video and I really do appreciate all that hard work you put into this , very very insightful 👍

    If I just use Elementor for exit-intent popups, will it still bloat my pages and affect my page speed scores on posts that were just built with Gutenberg?

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому +1

      I don't actually have the answer for this now, but I will do an experiment on this soon. For now, if you want to know the answer, you can just compare the page speed data of the "with exit popup" and then you can turn off the exit popup and test it again on Google PSI. That will give you an indicator if your exit popup will affect page speed scores. I hope this helps for now 😊

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the suggestion! Actually, I've thought about this before doing the test, and the reason why I didn't add that test is because the best optimization for each page builder will be different. And it is hard to have a fair test as the results will be skewed. That's why I only test with pure elements provided by the page builders. 😊

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому +1

      You would lose some elements you've previously created with Elementor, like the buttons and star rating. But, most of your content would still be around. I have done a walkthrough of how I helped my friend convert his site from Thrive Architect to Gutenberg: ua-cam.com/video/hJyzyVqzH7Q/v-deo.html
      Another Elementor user came up with an idea of moving from Elementor to Gutenberg page by page until all pages are turned to Gutenberg. Which means, you can take your time to convert and redesign all your Elementor pages one by one without removing the plugin completely. Once you have gone through all of your pages, you can safely delete Elementor.
      Hope this helps! 😊

    Great test. But I do get Grade A for mobile and desktop using Elementor and Nitropack on nearly every site.

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому +1

      Agreed. But Nitropack is expensive for a larger site. The best alternative, which is not nearly as good as Nitropack is WP Rocket. However, Elementor will not perform that well with WP Rocket. So unless you are willing to pay a monthly fee for Nitropack, the best alternative is to go with Gutenberg.

    • @dinopelle
      @dinopelle 3 роки тому

      Good point of clarification! WP Rocket is really good but doesn’t work consistently with Elementor. And I only use Nitropack on smaller sites... or large sites whose budgets can afford it. Thinking about moving to Gutenberg-only builds but it’s a big change in process. Oh well. 😉

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому +1

      Because I'm giving each page builders kinda the "best advantage" as Generatepress is the fastest theme based on my other test video. But now that you mentioned it, it is not really in favour for Gutenberg. The best advantage could have been Generatepress + Generate Blocks or Kadence + Kadence blocks. Thanks for highlighting, I will use either one of those combinations for the new school page builders test video.

  • @emersongrtcg
    @emersongrtcg 3 роки тому +1

    Hi, Jack. It was a great work that you make. Congratulations!
    I question myself how much of this result was caused by the page builder itself and how much was caused by the themes. Those themes was created to the best integration with the builders, but could they also slow down the page? Could the result be better if all the page builders was using Kadence, for example?

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому +1

      Apologies for the late reply Emerson. The answer is yes, the theme do contribute to the performance of the page builder. It would probably have a slight improvement if themes like Generatepress or Kadence were used. However, themes like Hello from Elementor is generally lightweight. So, it is really hard to have the best of both worlds in a test like this.

  • @DavidWaumsley
    @DavidWaumsley 3 роки тому +1

    Hi Jack, I commented here about some issues on your Beaver Builder set up that would prevent it getting a top score. I am not sure if you or You Tube deleted it. Beaver Builder can easily get a 98 - 100 score on mobiles creating your test page. If this comment stays up and will explain better.

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому +1

      I think UA-cam may have put the comment in the "to be reviewed" area. Let me check it in a while.

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому

      Hi David, I checked the "Held for review" section, and it doesn't seem that your previous comment was there. If you could further explain it here by replying to this comment, that would be very helpful. I remember seeing a comment saying that the Beaver Builder theme is heavy, and if I would have installed Beaver Builder on for example Generatepress, the results would have been better. Was that your comment? I somehow couldn't find it.

    • @DavidWaumsley
      @DavidWaumsley 3 роки тому

      Sorry I forgot. No. it not that was not my comment on the Beaver Builder Theme. I hear it said it is heavier that GeneratePress, The Page Builder Framework and Astra etc. Not really true or I would use these for client builds instead.
      I think this belief comes from tests on the default settings where the BB them will load Font Awesome and all of Bootstrap. The probably should change the defaults to the lighter option. There is no stripped down free version of it.

    I've tested Gutenberg last 2 weeks. Now I know there is so much more to websites than just speed. Gutenberg still is very far behind, also in 5.7
    It's a bit like MS Windows; all the settings and elements are all over the place. Things vanish as you want to click them etc etc. Pagebuilders still are much easier and faster to work with and have much more possibilities.

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому +2

      Hmmm. As an avid Gutenberg user, I have to disagree. It is all about having an open mind and getting use to a platform. If you look at the time spent for me to build up the pages, I spend almost the same time building it on platforms that I am familiar with:
      Gutenberg: 34 minutes
      Elementor: 38 minutes
      Thrive Architect: 31 minutes
      If it was a few years ago, I would have agreed with you that Gutenberg being "MS windows - do you mean Macintosh? Windows 10 is quite modern :)"
      As for the elements all over the place, again, it is all about getting use to it. I have been using Gutenberg with no complains, and yes, there are still room to grow for Gutenberg. And they are the future of WordPress.

    Hi Jack, very interesting video. Gutenberg rocks for speed, but at the cost of renouncing to powerful functionalities. In other words, I am using Elementor + Dynamic Content for Elementor which are incredibly powerful, And I doubt to achieve the same results with Gutenberg and random plugins. So Could you please recommend us some plugins to use with Gutenberg for more advanced sites while still achieving good speed results ?? ( with Templates using custom fields, Dynamic re-usable blocks, ACF maps, custom designs for loops, advanced post queries, download as pdf, etc...). In advance many thanks for your help

    • @JackCao
      @JackCao  3 роки тому

      - Custom design for loops - Reusable Blocks
      - Custom Fields - What custom fields do you need?
      - ACF Maps - CoBlocks; GetWid; Otter Blocks; Publishpress Blocks.
      - Advanced Post Queries - Post Grid/Carousel from Kadence Blocks/Ultimate Blocks
      - Dynamic Content - Kadence Blocks in the making - this feature is coming soon
      - Download as PDF - Use Google Docs - Not sure how this feature works. My bad
      You are not losing much functionalities with Gutenberg. The potential of Gutenberg replacing Elementor, or page builders, is there. 😊

      You're very welcome! And, you will be surprised by the next video on this channel because I was taken aback by the results of some new page builders.

    Thrive has some lazy loading features on board which is why it tends to score somewhat okay without optimization. But, with the same optimization ThriveArchitect will lack behind. I've been a Membership customer for 2 years and just dropped it for Gutenberg, Bricks and Oxygen.
    This test wouldve been way more detailed if you used the same theme for every builder.
    Elementor hello is super bare bones while ThriveThemeBuilder is easily one of the most feature-rich and easy to use theme.
    BeaverBuilder Theme is also quite bloated while the builder itself is super lightweight.
    So this way, this test isnt really relevant, poorly. Its relevant If you were to use the dedicated theme for the builder, which isnt optimal in most cases.
    Do you still have these pages set up? Then just changing the theme wouldnt be much work.
    Also, with your next Oxygen/bricks Test i'd LOVE to See LiveCanvas in there. Outputs pure HTML you could Copy/paste out of Wordpress and upload as a pure static HTML page

      You should have commented earlier and I would have done further testing by switching to the same theme, but unfortunately, I had to recycle domains for the next test on Bricks vs Oxygen vs Livecanvas vs Brizy vs Gutenberg. And yeah, Livecanvas is in that test, and I think it could be the builder for you since you are a web developer. For people, like me, who struggles with html and css will find it hard to use.
      If I styled the page with Kadence Blocks, I realize I would need to copy over the CSS from the blocks as well to live canvas and I am not really good with codes so I struggled a lot with building up the same page used in the tests.
      Is it possible if I ask for your expertise in future? Could you share with me your email address? If yes, please send me an email to jack@jackcao.com. I really appreciate it.

    Hi Jack, love your Gutenberg videos but you never cover how it does with WooCommerce. Could you please do a video showing how you can customize all WooCommerce aspects like category lists, single product pages, cart, checkout, account etc. using Gutenberg and Gutenberg blocks plug ins only.
    No one covers WooCommerce even though many people are only using WordPress to be able to use WooCommerce.
