Covering Concepts: Pre-Snap Reads (Ft. Mitchell Trubisky)

  • Опубліковано 5 сер 2019
  • What's up everybody! Over the last few months, I've received quite a few football questions of all sorts. Some are easy to answer (ex: "what is dime coverage?"), but others are more difficult to explain. With that in mind, I decided I'd start a quick-fire series dedicated to both answering those complex questions and providing analysis about all sorts of #NFL players along the way!
    In today's topic, I cover how Quarterbacks go about making Pre-Snap Reads. What goes into them? What can go wrong? How do defenses try to stop the QB from making good reads? Find out all this and more in this #Bears Mitchell Trubisky-themed breakdown!
    If you like this video, be sure to "like" it and subscribe to my channel. It's your interactions that keep me making things like this, so be sure to let me know what you think of the new series! I plan on trying to put out a few more Anatomy of a Play videos, maybe one or two more of these, and of course a player breakdown or two, but we'll see if the preseason changes those plans. Either way, stick with me -- the season is right around the corner!

    3:14 hey man I heard that during this play Trubisky might've confused the safety with the field goal post because it was covered in a white padding matching the Dolphins jersey color that game. But this breakdown was still important because you can tell that since Mitch was looking off the safety, maybe it is possible he thought the safety in his peripherals was the post til the last minute when it was too late.

    Can you please breakdown what each defensive formation means? Like a nickel defense

    • @cheezitchar1239
      @cheezitchar1239 5 років тому +2

      Nickel defense means that you swap out a defensive lineman for another defensive back

    • @tomanderson7229
      @tomanderson7229 5 років тому

      Nickel defense is 5 defensive backs, dime is six. In both cases the defense swaps out generally a LB for a CB. They're sacrificing stoutness, run stopping ability for pass coverage. Down and distance generally tells you when obvious passing situations are like 3rd and 10 most likely means they're passing.

    • @censored1360
      @censored1360 5 років тому

      @@cheezitchar1239 usually it a LB that is taken out not DL. Standard nickel has 4 down linemen 2 lb's 5 db's. I am sure there are less common forms where they pull a DL so not saying you are wrong

    • @censored1360
      @censored1360 5 років тому +2

      3-4 3 dl 4 lb 4 db, 4-3 4 dl 3 lb 4 db, nickel 4 dl 2 lb 5 db, dime 4 dl 1 lb 6 db but of course there are other formations like 2 dl and a variety of LB DB numbers. Hope that helps

      Censored 1 well in the bears scheme (3-4), they always have 4 LBs (2 mlb and 2 olb), so they take out one linemen. Still 4 men on the line, but technically 2 of them are lbs

Kyle Long and Cody Whitehair were the two guards listed as best in the division. I’d be interested to see what tactics offensive linemen employ to pass rush and run block. What are the tangibles that make some linemen great and others just average and backups?

Remember it was week 2 and Trubisky didn't have a lot of experience. On this first play he actually made the right read. the high low on the middle backer with his back working into space on the option route is where the ball needed to go unfortunately the RB slipped and therefore he had to clutch the ball and scramble because the route wasnt open. As you show in the video every route was covered. also Sit routes arent designed to take advantage of man coverage... Man coverage is beat by crossing and routes that stay on the move. You never want to sit against man coverage you instead only sit in Zone coverage inside of open grass

    Question about 5:36 if anyone still reads these comments - Couldn't the far left reciever (not robinson the one on the other side) run a slant route while robinson runs a similar route to the other side? The camera doesn't show if there are other defenders upfield but it seems like that would be an easy touchdown because both robinson's defender and the safety would be drawn to one side of the field. I very well may be wrong and please correct me if I am.

    The play design is good for zone or man. At 2:11 the highlighted LB has two men, the snag at about 5 yards and the curl behind him. But Trubisky is looking to his right.
    Just about all Air Raid plays have some version of "If it is cloudy, throw the curl."
    The play design is fine. Trubisky's execution, not so great.
