The rebuilt Royal Scots are argubably the finest British 4-6-0's.
They impressed in the exchange trials of the era, and preservation era performances speak for themselves.

I,d say the black 5,s. Go anywhere, do anything loco,s the Scot,s were hard work for the fireman, heavy on coal.

@@steveworthington930 One of the 5s actually achieved a speed of 90+ mph in 1967. Just goes to show how fast these mixed-traffics really were back in the day.

Great video, just sad that there not more information on the LMS holdings in Ireland (Northern Counties Committee, Dundalk, Newry & Greenore Railway and County Donegal Railways Joint Committee)

I take your point unfortunately being in England I don't have any film of Irish hence why it was emitted.

Actually, the speed record attained by 6220 Coronation in 1937 was 114 MPH, not 112. The 112 MPH record was reached by A4 silver link a couple of years previously. 0:09

According to the Princess royal trust’s official website, during WWII, 6233 Duchess of Sutherland reportedly reached 110 mph during a sleeper train run.

It's a pity that the Duchesses were never tested against the A4s on comparable tracks and trains. Both Silver link and Mallard burned out their middle big end bearings on their record runs so they were clearly at the limits of their capability. Not so the Duchesses.

@@stevengorick187 I'm guessing the reason you didn't talk about the Jubilees, because they're similar to the Black Fives.

@@NicholasMarion-pl9bm It's not really that I'd rather the series be about the company rather than X class was built in X year.
