A very interesting video, I actually have a Hornby 'Jinty' with running number 16440 in British Railways Express livery, I have converted it to DCC by using Honrby's upgraded motor and a Hatton's decoder plus firebox flicker and some cab detailing. It's quite a good runner on my outside garden railway, I have DCC Concepts Power Base system installed as there is what could be described as a 'Long Drag' of about 15yards back up to the control baseboard. I had thought of returning to LMS livery but I like this colour scheme better.
14:51 You have no idea how pleased I am to see acknowledgment of the Class Y (the name used for the two Jinties sent over to the NCC). Now if only there was one in UTA colours.
I really like the look of the Jinty 47357 in the maroon livery! If Dapol made one of those in O gauge I could definitely see one making its way here to America! 🇺🇸
A small tank engine in full express locomotive livery doesn't sound like it would work, but it really does. I'm a big fan of this colourscheme too - Dave
Hi, if you're a OO gauge modeller both the Hornby and Bachmann versions have all wheel pickup, so should have no issues on even the larger insulfrog points.
I've got one of the scrapped Jinty engines in pristine condition in my collection. The Jinty, nicknamed Jimmy, is my favourite LMS Tank Engine. My real life favourite Jinty is 47383 on the SVR, who has earned the name Jimmy affectionately from me. So, to all you model versions of Jimmy the Jinty, work hard and you won't be overlooked. I'm sticking to my 00 gauge Jimmy the Jinty, in fact, he makes a great Phantom of the Railway character as you'll see in my new Phantom of the Opera model railway video, on Kelly Ashford Trains.
hi dave, great video, i have 3 triang hornby jinties 2 in black and one in LMS maroon like in the photo. all have the x04 motor and pull 2 triang suburban coaches around, somtimes used on a small goods train.. i hope hornby will upgrade their 0-6-0 chassis and stop using that silly m7 motor. so bachmann wins the first round with its jinties which are great,
Thanks Martin, I'm absolutely fine (I hope!). We're all taking extra safety measures at Hattons to make sure we stay safe and healthy in these current times - Dave.
Got the night mail set for my son and recently bought an early version of it in British rail livery

Its an unusual colour for a 'Jinty' but it certainly has its fans, Peter!

Which would you say is the best model of the Jinty? I'm thinking in terms of all wheel pickups and crossing insulfrog points.

Hattons Model Railways Thanks for the quick reply. That's great.
BigGreenDorito Thanks for the tip, but I will be doing 00 Gauge.

Aaaaahh, not that phantom again 😧
@@hythekent Don't be scared. Jimmy the Jinty isn't a ghost. He's alive and well.
@@kellyashfordtrains2642 Oh, good. I have been so worried.
I hope my last line didn't scare Dave away. If it did, I apologise. I would never scare anyone out of their wits deliberately, it's not my style.

Thanks Peter, with the Hornby Jinty in the Railroad range the M7 motor is cost effective and does give a great performance for its price too.

Thanks Martin, I'm absolutely fine (I hope!). We're all taking extra safety measures at Hattons to make sure we stay safe and healthy in these current times - Dave.
Thanks Dave. They should give you a pay rise. The number of sales you must generate!
Thanks, I'll mention that in the office :-) - Dave
Thomas the Tank Engine's more fitting basis.
E2s are too big.
