      As you can see from this other video, Inuit throat-singing is a joke that they use to make each other laugh. And now they're laughing at all the fools here saying how "beautiful" it is, because they're racists who feel sorry for non-white people and feel the need to patronize them and pretend things are beautiful when they're not even supposed to be.

    Its wonderful to see people continue their ancestral traditions. The native people in the state i grew up in did not mantain a written language prior to European colonization so the rituals and practices passed down through the generations were the only source of historical data available that was anthropological, rather than archeological.

      I never really understood the phrase "respect the culture" which people seem to use so much. Cultures exist and persist. They often contribute unique ideas and art forms to the world.
      It seems more important and relevant to be interested in and even enjoy those unique ideas and art forms. I don't see how "respect" has anything to do with that.
      I respect the people who can perform the skills involved in those arts, especially if they are highly skilled. But I'm just not sure what it actually means to respect a culture in general. Cultures are going to go on existing completely independently of where or not i display "respect" for it, as long as those who are part of that culture want it to. Right?

    I've never heard the term "circumpolar region" before; it makes perfect sense. the cultures indigenous to the artic circle had to deal with similar challenges; some solved the problem similarly, some differently. It makes sense that Inuits, Laplanders, and Yupiks would all see some elements of their own culture in the others.

    • @ems7623
      @ems7623 2 роки тому +3

      It's a handy term ... But ... If you start looking into the details of those circumpolar cultures, you'll notice that the term is a bit too broad and generalized. There's way more diversity in that ring than it might seem if you are looking north from a North American perspective. The Sami are QUITE different from the Inuit in quite powerful ways, for example.

      There is different kinds of throat singing that sound different, and this is singing it's not just a competition but Inuit tribe women used to sing this to their babies to put them to sleep a very long time ago and would try to imitate the sounds of nature to do so. Also they are singing using their throats what should they call it? Feet singing?

    You have to wonder if evolutionarily speaking, the women most capable of putting on fat, especially in an environment where food is scarce, were more likely to pass their genes onto the next generation. Just an observation that many women from an Inuit background are heavier.

    • @saladking71
      @saladking71 7 років тому +30

      BandWagon1987 Women do require more fat to stay healthy than men because of theo reproductive systems and just the way their body is structured - hence women usually having larger hips etc.

    As a person who enjoys and practices Tuvan, and Finnish throat singing, I can’t really understand why this is classified as throat singing. It’s a unique style that is deserving of respect, but, grunting and gasping has nothing to do with a single person projecting two different tones simultaneously.
