I love that you made the dome lid. I can not for my life keep a lid flat!! I have remade so many of my lids and they are all wonky. I dry them between dry wall forever too. So I think I’ll do this from now on so it won’t matter as much. Thanks as always.
I am so thankful for your generosity in sharing your knowledge and skills with us 🙏🤗 I'm with the rest of my creative fellows here, I'd LOVE for you to show us all how you create your carving pieces! Excited 😁
Ann you are a treasure trove of information. Thank you! When you say you need to adjust the template for the width of the clay are you referring to shrinkage? Also, are you going to add template for milk carton? I love that one!
Hi Mary Jane. Great question. No I am not talking about the shrinkage, but i am talking about the width of the clay slab. The template that the website creates is designed for very thin paper. The slab we use is 1/4 inch thick. What I did was to angle the side just a little bit more than the template had made it, so as to accommodate that extra width. does that make sense? As far as the milk carton goes, there was a lot of steps to the construction process when I put it together. I want to see if there is an easier way to do it before giving you guys the instructions on the way I did it. I will put out a video if I can make the process more elegant. Happy potting.
@@annruel1982 thanks that makes total sense. And yes I looked at the milk carton template and it looked like it needed deconstructing to get it to work. If I figure it out before you do I'll share!
@@mjceramics5552 Yes, it is a matter of which sides of the slabs to bevel and there is still the matter of making folds in several places. I bet you can figure it out! I am going to try. am hoping to do a video if I have success. Try the challenge!
Just he to come here and say CONGRATULATIONS on being in POTTERY MAKING ILLUSTRATED!!! I saw the vase and knew instantly whose it was!! How awesome and so well deserved!!
"YES" is always the answer to "Let me know in the comments if you want to see how I made..." Also, what's your favorite material for templates? Paper tends to be a one-session-only because of clay humidity.
I'm so glad YT recommended your channel. I'd love to learn how you carved the wheat and mice into your clay. Thanks for creating these inspirational and educational videos. I'd totally sub if you had a Patreon channel.
Good question Leslie. If I just put the sticky clay on top of the rim it would seal itself to the top of the box. If I put paper strips over the rim, it keeps the clay from sticking together. Give it a try. thanks for watching
No spritzing - but timing is important. I try and cut templates when clay is leather hard. I'm afraid clay might crack if you just spritz it. The damp box might do the trick as you suggest but Ive not tried it. Good luck!
I would love to see how you carved that vase with the mice and wheat. Thank you for these videos.
Awesome! Im working on that!!! Thanks Hoopie!

I've used everything from poster board to the latest which is the fun foam - it seems to resist water better. I get it at Michaels. THanks.

Why did you add the paper to the rim? How did it help you?

Do you just spritz the vase with water if it starts to dry? Or do you have to spritz it and then put it back in a damp box to reabsorb the water?
No spritzing - but timing is important. I try and cut templates when clay is leather hard. I'm afraid clay might crack if you just spritz it. The damp box might do the trick as you suggest but Ive not tried it. Good luck!
Me too!
Please give the brand name of the clay you are using.
