I'm pretty amazed this didn't freeze in 20°F. I have no way to put out a heater because my feeders and water are too far from the house. Will definitely try making this for next winter. Practical and really cute!
When it gets really cold you really have stay on top of it but even you let the water in the bowl freeze there should still be liquid water where the water drips.. I usually clear all the water out of the bowl before dark and fill it up with hot water from our sink in the morning in the winter...
yes! it is so important to provide drinking water for the birds in the winter.. if not they will eat snow and that lowers their body temperature and uses precious calories..... glad you like it.. here is the original video of the birdbath....ua-cam.com/video/6kbsfF-bNZo/v-deo.html
Love it! I bought stuff today to try to make a birdbath/fountain for the first time. I'd love to try this style too...did you just put concrete inside a hollow log, or what? I have one that might work for that.
it is a hollow log that I found at our local stump dump... I cleaned the inside up a bit first... I will be posting more info on the original video in the next couple of days.. .... if you read through the comments ...ua-cam.com/video/6kbsfF-bNZo/v-deo.html
@@245webster I did read through them, and watched the video. Such a great idea! I made the one I'd set out to make, but I think I'd still like to try this one too, if I can find another hollow log.
What a great variety of birds that visit. May I please ask how long does the jug of water last before it must be refilled. We have a shady spot that I would love to try this out at. New subscriber....
Thanks and that is a tricky question A couple of weeks ago I gave a very detailed description on how long you could expect a gallon to last before running out. It is right at the top of the comments on this video ua-cam.com/video/6kbsfF-bNZo/v-deo.html
Hi ..on very cold.it takes a little work but there is always liquid water where the water drips... I fill the jug up with hot water from our kitchen sink in the morning...and empty the jug and the bowl at night before it freezes hard... if the weather is say below 20 degrees it's something you need to keep an eye on break up the ice from time to time.. so probably not possible if say you're at work all day.. but the dripping definitely does help keep enough liquid water for the birds to get a drink...hope this helps..

Just curious, how come it doesn't freeze up at 20 deg. F?
Can you tell us how you made it,!
