If you are going to go the author page route and write a blog, it’s good to perhaps have a topic you feel passionate and reasonably knowledgeable about (for example historical clothing, or child education, or decorative plants, whatever) and write blog posts about it while tying it up with your book themes 😎

What I'm trying to figure out is what you would write about on the blog that's DIFFERENT to what you'd put in your newsletter. If the purpose of the website is to be a digital business card, with the blog helping from an SEO perspective, then everything in the blog content should be targeted to attracting readers who would want to read your books. So book themes make total sense in that respect!
Then I think about what I go to author websites for...and it's always because I'm looking for an update on the next book they're putting out, or behind the scenes stuff. Which is typically also stuff that I'd expect from a newsletter, though I guess the newsletter would also have a spotlight for more personal life things. So maybe the line is blurrier than I think...except I'm ALSO like, well if the content on the website and the newsletter is the same thing, why would I subscribe to the newsletter?
      UGH marketing confuses me!

Evan winters and Brandon Sanderson have mentioned paid advertising, but I've yet to figure out the correct formula.

Ads are like a WHOLE 'nother ball game that is very expensive to learn and I haven't yet worked out how they fit into an overall strategy. Looking at some other authortubers, like Chris Fox for example where he discloses his whole P&L, ads are one of the biggest ongoing expenses, but he's getting something like $2 or more per $1 of ad spend which makes it worth it for him.

@@armanisar-feinial1789 If you want the one that's a sneak peek into his finances, I'd recommend looking at the 2020 income report video, where you can see 5 years of income in a spreadsheet and he talks about it. Just looking at the ad spend line is fascinating. I expect he'll do a 2021 income report soon too!
