Most states in the northeast have a rule that if you are 16 you can consent to someone within 4 years of your age. I don't know specific states and I know they vary. NY is like 17 for everything supposedly but Joe often does not care to consider accuracy or detail. He often goes with his own narrative. NJ also has a rule about 16 and 17 year olds who have sex with a manager at their job making it a criminal offense. As a Psychologist I have to bring some helpful insight into this topic: molestation at any age, regardless of gender, is traumatizing in different ways to the victim. Yes, he was 17. But how he was impacted by this sexual encounter will forever impact how he sees women, goes about getting sex in the future, and how his perception/behavior is of/toward himself. We don't know him personally, but I've counseled lots of victims of sexual abuse and a victim's behavior becomes extreme on opposite ends of the spectrum: either self loathing and self harming because of being abused and not getting help/sympathy, or cocky and aggressive because he believes he can sleep with anyone now and will try extreme means to get sex in the future. Every molestation case is different, but it ALWAYS impacts the victims in negative ways regardless of age and gender.

As a Psychologist I have to bring some helpful insight into this topic: molestation at any age, regardless of gender, is traumatizing in different ways to the victim. Yes, he was 17. But how he was impacted by this sexual encounter will forever impact how he sees women, goes about getting sex in the future, and how his perception/behavior is of/toward himself. We don't know him personally, but I've counseled lots of victims of sexual abuse and a victim's behavior becomes extreme on opposite ends of the spectrum: either self loathing and self harming because of being abused and not getting help/sympathy, or cocky and aggressive because he believes he can sleep with anyone now and will try extreme means to get sex in the future. Every molestation case is different, but it ALWAYS impacts the victims in negative ways regardless of age and gender.

There's a fine line between considering men and women different (which they are) and saying they should be treated differently under the law.
Sex with a 17 year old guy ain't such a huge deal, generally speaking there's little damage to be done.
