  • Heres the next episode, Its going to be about guy wires, plumb-bob, preforms, cutouts, fuses, extendo stick, I'll leave those terms and definitions for you guys down below of what they are. Tips, Even if its the simplest things, if you see something or someone doing it wrong, help him out. I may not be the best but its better to not see him get injured or mess up. The camera angle wasn't the greatest, so if your looking to use a gopro i suggest using the head mount over your hardhat. I used the side angle and it kept falling off my hat and it was all bad.
I recorded this for memory and something to look back to and remember all my great bros that was there with me through out the term, everyone was a great person couldn't do it without them.
I will add definitions as we go. Correct me if I'm wrong and let me know!
Guy-wire - is a tensioned cable designed to add stability to a free-standing structure and is also galvanized so won't get rusted and corroded.
Pre-forms/Guy-grip - are used for connecting and gripping the conductor, guy wire and to hook it up to a fish stick (i will get the name of it)
Plumb-bob - Used after setting the pole, the string will be in the center of the pole from the ground all the way to the top.
Chain Hoist - It can be used for many things but from my experience at school we used it to pull and hold conductor up from insulators, and also use it for the guy-wires to pull it as you see in the video. Possibly can be use for many more things.
Cutouts/Fuses - In electrical distribution, a fuse cutout or cut-out fuse is a combination of a fuse and a switch, used in primary overhead feeder lines and taps to protect distribution transformers from current surges and overloads. You will usually see this around town and mostly down to a transformer.
Extendo Stick - HASTINGS Multi-Purpose holding tool, adjustable head.
There are the big size like in the video and mini size for the buckets. They can be used for many things but only thing I used it on is for the cutouts as of now.
The more experience guys should be helpful in the comments!
Thanks for watching! Hope you liked the video. If so, hit the subscribe button to get the latest videos.

I do make ready design for power poles. I feel kinda bad calling out for things to be done because this is dangerous work. Kudos to all the brave men out there doing this kind of work.

    Great vid.
5:15 looks like a solid copper door on the left(for 100 or 200 amp cutout), standard polymer cutout in the center, and a loadbreak cutout on the right. It looks like there is a fault tamer secured to the pole about where the braces attach to the pole.
The super high current(600-900 amp) bypass switches that I have are pretty hard to release especially with low tension wire or a poorly secured crossarm. They probably need wd40.
Edit: Ones mentioned are my trunnion mounted ones but I also have some on cutouts(different than solid door) and both are hard to release.
