  • The 1957 Sugar Bowl featured the second-ranked Tennessee Volunteers and the 11th-ranked Baylor Bears.
    After a scoreless first quarter of play, Baylor scored on a 12-yard scoring pass from quarterback Bobby Jones to Jerry Marcontell to take a 6-0 lead. The score was set up by Del Shofner's 54-yard run. In the third stanza, quarterback Johnny Majors scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to put Tennessee on top at 7-6. In the fourth quarter, Buddy Humphrey's one-yard touchdown run gave Baylor a 13-6 advantage.

    So many players playing both ways…….!…they were great athletes. Dr Jerry Moncontell made a great catch…!!

    I wish all these old Sugar Bowl highlight films were as good quality of this. Most of the others are so fuzzy and dark you sometimes don't know which team is which. This is beautiful.

    Why would u punt on first and 10 while the score is 0-0 in the 2nd quarter?

      I believe the Vols also won the coin flip and elected to kick off, and got to pick what goal to defend. But then it wasn't like the present rules, when you could defer to receiving the kickoff to the 2nd half. Vols kickoff agin the 2nd half. Strange strategy.
