I cannot express how much I love your channel, seriously thank you so much for improving my day every day
You're welcome! Glad to hear it! 😁
Since they are on spinblocks they definitely would work inside the hull as well.
I call hax.
I used a single pod mounted on the back of a mini sub but in a 3 dimensional set up. As in one pod can point in any direction occlusion aside. It's extremely agile. I highly recommend 3D pods for subs, its very power efficient and good looking.
This is the only channel that I get video recommendations within 24 hours. 28 seconds is all it took.
"28 seconds is all it took."
Me too man, me too. My GF is unhappy.
That I pay more attention to Borderwise than I do to her, what'd you think I meant?
It took me 10 minutes but that was because I was driving home.
Took me a while because I was sleeping
@@theapexdragon5010 fair enough.
I just made a heavy cruiser and it uses these. I saw them on the meg and decided to steal them. Its thin but super long and an amazing broadsider. But it can turn on a dime.
Not mentioned in this video: turreted azipods. Thrusters can be placed on turrets, which will point them directly at an enemy ship. This conceivably is most useful for ramming ships, however, should they be mounted sideways to the turret's aiming direction, I'm sure they could be used for some perpendicular strafing.
Something i like doing for my larger aircraft, i have directional thrusters on both ends. So if i need to pitch hard up theyll rotate 12 jet thrusters. 6 up front 6 in back. Ive been able to get even my more massive planes to use projectile avoidance with decent abilities.
IRL these are called "Outboard Motors". Every speedboat has them.
Nay, that implies the engine is also mounted to the pod.
These are, in fact, Azimuth Pods.
I literally just wanted one of these! Great timing borderwise
A little ,,hint" these things are called vector thrusters when using ,,jet engines"
Cheers! I was trying to remember that.
Perfect beginner TIP !!
There's funk anew in your fun canoe.
I once tried to do a two-axis azipod, where an engine was mounted on a spinblock that was mounted on another spinblock.
It worked pretty well for manual control, not so much for automatic.
Time to return to this game. So much new stuff. It's time to rebuild the old workhorses and start another campaign
Vecror thrust azipods. Simply propultion set on TWO spinblock
Messed around with this back in 2017. Never got them to work.
Awesome video as always. Very useful. Is there a reason the spin block response is set so low? Like why is it .1 when hearing right and not just a full 1?
A full 1 would turn it 180 degrees, that's why. 😛
Not to mention, if you set it to a full 90 degree turn, you'd lose *all* forward thrust during every turn
I just stole the azipods off the Steel Striders' Catshark. They're particularly good looking and they work great.
I work on a tug boat and we run 2 azipod on the bow
And then there's the quirky cousin, where you mount thrust on turrets. Fae, far less controllable, but has some niche applications.
NUKES!!!!!!!!!
How would one set up full 360 degree pods, and perhaps more importantly, is there a use case for full 360 thrust?
Tugboats, the ability to strafe sideways around an opponent.
it wouldn't work with the default vehicle control settings for blocks, but it might be with the programmable block stuff. never really looked into those too much but it seems like the kind of thing they'd be useful for. like for example you'd want the thrust on your propellors to the absolute value of the drive level since in reverse they'll still be going "forwards" just oriented the other way
it probably isn't actually very useful though, since ships are mostly built to go forward best to begin with
@@Graknorke yep, you'd have to use the complex controls, the same as setting up 6-dof.
As for how well it works, check out "smarter every day" on UA-cam, he has an episode on the Coast Guard jet boats. They use a dual stick setup and the maneuverability is insane.
@@martindinner3621 -- Azimuthal thrusters are fantastic for manoeuvrability in real life, but is there any reason to use them in combat?
Best I can think of is a melee PAC of some kind, or melee lasers? Perhaps smoothly turing to the other side for fresh armour while still moving in a fleet formation?
@@martindinner3621
is low speed maneuverability ever useful in FTD? utility boats IRL get some use sure but in game I can't think of times it would be much use to strafe a ship when you could go fast forward instead
Will the Azipod make its way to the steam workshop, perchance?
You mean the craft shown in the video? Sure, if that's what you want!
@@BorderWise12 Many thanks!
my spinblocks seem to cap out at 20 degrees per second at 1.00 yaw, whereas yours gets 36 at 0.2, any idea why?
Did you remember to do the spin rate thing (that I can never remember the name of)? I mentioned it in the video.
Ha, I finally found the tutorial. Thank you for the other comment
Yer welcome! 😁
