    Thanks for the video - my 1989 Chrysler Fifth Ave just got disconnected & had to re plug in & started right up. It is right on the outside of the transmission. I had transmission work done about a year ago and maybe they did not have in 100%.

    Rotten luck, but the 2003 models don't have the connector at the switch. You gotta disassemble everything above it in the engine bay in order to take it off. And since you're buying the part with the harness attached, it's also more expensive.

    My 2005 Pilot was having intermittent starting problems when the engine was warm. Turn the key and a "no crank" situation occurred - no clicking or any noise from the starter - the dash would light up normally however. When the engine cooled down the vehicle would eventually start. I installed a new starter and a new battery and this problem persisted. I installed a new neutral safety switch two weeks ago and this seems to have solved the intermittent starting problem. I was able replace the neutral safety switch without taking off the front left tire. Just turn the wheels all the way left to access.
    I did the install while the gear selector was in "Park" and this was a mistake. It allowed the vehicle to start but the reverse lights would not activate and the gear indicator light was not functioning - it would light up when moving through the gears but would shut off when set into any gear. I took the switch off and re-installed while the car was in "Neutral". This corrected the reverse light and gear indicator problem.

      Great to hear you got it figured out and thanks for sharing that tip! Pretty sure I did mine while in Park and was lucky I had no issues with indicator or reverse lights after installing the new one.

    Having problem where I would be driving and Honda 2004 stalls out and steering wheel gets hard when I try to turn it back on it won’t start till after about 5 mins of trying it finally turns on. Can this fix the problem?

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  Рік тому

      I doubt this will fix it. (Once the engine is running that neutral safety switch doesn’t seem to affect it). Could be a bad ground somewhere. Or fuel pump issue (or wiring connecting it). Hard to diagnose without seeing it, sorry.

    My problem is intermittent. Sometimes she fires up other times not. I replaced the starter and my battery is fine. Could this be the problem? I can start it after around 5-6 tries- for now. Once it turns over she starts and runs fine.

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  3 роки тому

      If I were betting I’d say the neutral safety switch is likely the culprit.

      I have the same issue on a 04 Pilot . Some times starts fine others is takes two or three cranks then starts and runs and drives fine . Now it’s added a bonus problem , once started it shuts off and have to re start . Again once running it’s fine .
      The problem is much worse when it’s winter temps , summer it seems to be better . One of these days it’s not going to start . Thanks for the video I’ll start here . 👍

    I was having the same problem. When I would turn the key to start the vehicle, sometimes it would work fine and other times, nothing would happen. Not even a click under the hood. I thought it was my ignition switch, but saw this video and tried it out. took about 15 minutes to change and my vehicle starts fine every time. Thanks for the help.

      I had problems starting and just changed my starter and I am still having the same intermittent problem. I had trouble starting her up this morning and now she starts up just fine. About 1/10 of the time she won't turn over until after several tries. When the starter does engage she starts up just fine. I'm going to try this next. Hopefully it works!

    Sorry for the lag, but just saw this -- quick installation question: did you need to adjust the gear setting to match what gear the Pilot "thought" it was in (Drive), or was the setting already matched for Park? Other vids show the part arriving set to Neutral.

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  6 років тому

      Ted Corcoran I did have to slightly fine tune it by rotating slightly and retightening. It’s been a while since I did this but I think I got it the first “readjustment” try. Hope that helps.

      @@TrailRunnerGuy Great video.
      I also had to reposition the gear on the new neutral switch slightly, otherwise it wasn't working. Just turn the center gear on new switch a few mm with a screwdriver either clockwise or counter clockwise, until ignition starts normally.
      Always check by starting the van ignition on and making sure it turns on normally.
      Also make sure the car is in PARK when starting the repair and match position of new switch to position of the removed switch and fine tune as required.
      The new switch center gear comes in the neutral position, and use a screwdriver to rotate to the park position and try to match it as closely as possible to the position of the center gear on the old switch.
      Hope that helps.

    Hey I have 2006 honda pilot crank but no spark in spark plugs, do you know what can be

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  2 роки тому

      Could be quite a few things.
      Any check engine light/codes?
      Does the green “key” symbol show on the dash? If not then maybe immobilizer.
      Could be a relay (possibly a brown relay next to a blue one (on a 2005) under the driver side dash. If bad it can tell coils to not spark.
      That’s about all I’ve got for ya. Good luck!

    I have an Honda Pilot 2004 and the Pilot start but sometimes takes more cranks than usual. I was getting codes po170 and po171 and my VTM4 lights was coming on. So I replaced the Fuel Pump and got better. The codes are no longer coming on but still has the crank issue. I also replaced the Fuel Pump Relay and problem doesn't got fix. Could be than this Neutral Safety Switch be bad?. When Pilot comes on never shuts down and works great. Any ideas?.

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  7 років тому

      Jose Echevarria Not sure if the Neutral Safety Switch would cause any harder/longer cranking. In my experience it either works or it doesn't. It won't crank at all, not even a click or (assuming battery/starter are healthy) it will start w/o any hesitation. Maybe others can chime in with suggestions... good luck!

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  2 роки тому

      Sorry for the slow reply - Could be many things. Fuse(s), coils, bad spark plugs/spark plug wires. Start with checking for any trouble codes (get a reader or placed like auto one pull codes for free). Good luck. Or hope it’s already fixed by now.

    Is the location of the neutral safety switch the same on a 2003 Honda pilot and if so is it the same procedure ?

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  3 роки тому

      Sorry, not sure about the 2003's. But the 2005 part is listed as different from 2003. I would think the same general location, but you might have to get behind the wheel well to locate it.

    what kind of problem were you having that made you change the switch?

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  7 років тому

      Danny Martinez The vehicle wouldn't start. Just a click when turning the key. All accessories, dash & headlights lights worked fine. The sensor likely incorrectly gave a "car is in gear" reading so wouldn't allow it to turn over.

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  7 років тому +2

      Danny Martinez one possible way to troubleshoot is to turn the key, cycle the shifter to other gears, and try to start it while in park or neutral. If that workaround does the trick it might buy you time to replace/fix the sensor (or connection to it) and not be stranded.

    • @TrailRunnerGuy
      @TrailRunnerGuy  7 років тому

      Danny Martinez I'd only be guessing as I'm not a mechanic but perhaps the key is the issue. I just sold mine over the weekend (200,000+ miles) or I'd try it to see if my key light did the same as yours. Best of luck!

    • @ms310
      @ms310 7 років тому

      Fredy Vasquez My car would not start. The park and drive light came on when I turned the key and then the drive light came off. So through google and reading message boards replacing the neutral safety switch was the solution to the problem.
