Sola Melodica exists to uncover a glimmer of God in the art form of music. We focus primarily on hard rock, metal, punk, alternative, and occasionally outlaw country.
    Good News and Bad News
Typically people want the bad news first.
The bad news is that we are all sinners. You are a sinner and I am a sinner. God’s creation was perfect. Our original ancestors, Adam & Eve, had direct access to God. He visited them and they would hang out together.
God is perfect and He created a perfect people.
Sadly, sin entered this perfect creation through an act of rebellion. That one act of rebellion threw everything into chaos. Immediately, they were cognizant of their sin. They worked to cover their nakedness and began to pass blame.
A curse entered the earth and now every person born would be born under that sinful curse.
Many people will argue that at least they are not Hitler or Stalin. Most of us are not serial killers! We’re in relatively decent shape, or so we think.
    It’s not that simple, though.
As Steve Taylor wrote in his song Jesus Is For Losers, “They don’t grade here on a curve, we both know what we deserve.”
I am guilty of sin and you are guilty of sin. “What sin?” you ask. Lying, stealing, envy, lust, the list goes on and on. Each of which knocks us off of our “pedestal” of perfection.
If we boil this down to a court session we would be proven guilty. The prosecutor would present indisputable evidence of our misdeeds and transgressions.
Our good works don’t offset our sin.
Plus, there is no statute of limitations on our sin.
Justice demands recompense. The verdict would be swift and the judgment severe.
    The Good News
God had a plan all along. True justice could not ignore these iniquities and transgression. The penalty had to sufficiently cover every sin that was committed in the past and any sin that would be committed in the future.
    Yes, all of them.
As soon as the original sin (thanks Adam & Eve) was committed God put His plan into motion.
Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, came to earth sinless and perfect. He lived His life free of sin and transgression. He healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the hungry, and loved fearlessly.
He was the perfect sacrifice for our sin. A lamb without spot or blemish was sentenced to die a brutal death on our behalf.
Jesus was tortured without mercy. He was mocked, spat upon, cursed, and deserted by His friends. The beating, according to Isaiah, was so ghastly that He could not be recognized as a human (Isaiah 52:14). He died a horrific death, gasping for air, nailed to a cross.
His death was only one part of the redemption story. The best part was death could not keep Him. He defeated death and conquered hell.
It’s written, “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification” (Romans 4:25).
The resurrection did not transpire until justification (justice), in the eyes of God, was achieved. The punches, whipping, cursing, crown of thorns, nailing, and betrayal were for you and were for me.
What Jesus endured was more violent and appalling than anything Quentin Tarantino could envision.
The price for our sins has been paid. There is no double jeopardy in the Kingdom of God. Our sin is judged in Christ.
That, my friend, is Good News!
What’s our part to play in this Gospel plan? Not much, actually.
We acknowledge that we’re sinners and in need of a savior. We recognize that we’re incapable of saving ourselves and need a rescuer. We repent of our sin and ask God for forgiveness. We accept the atoning sacrifice and redemption that is found only in Jesus Christ.
I recommend that you look up Psalm 51 and read it. It’s about a man who committed adultery and then had the husband murdered to cover his sin. His heartfelt and sincere prayer just might be the inspiration you need to form your own prayer to God.
Everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved!

Well you just showed up on my queue reacting to one of my all time favorite bands. I saw them live twice circa 1990.
recommendations.... Certainly "Creeping Death" by Metallica
"Jesus Built My Hot Rod" and "Psalm 69" by Ministry
oh and...."Paper And Fire" by John Mellencamp.

@@tomchesley2604 Creeping Death is scheduled for tomorrow. I'm unfamiliar with the songs by Ministry. I will check the lyrics and add them to the list. I'm intrigued by the Hot Rod one for sure! Paper and Fire? I'm vaguely familiar with that one and will need to listen to it again. Mellencamp's art display at the R&R Hall of Fame in Cleveland is UH-Mazing.

Jesus Built My Hot Rod is kind of a silly song without many discernable lyrics. It just has Jesus in the title. Psalm 69 is kind of an anti religion song also I forgot Stigmata by Ministry.
For a more up lifting song you can check out Rivers of Babylon. There's a couple versions of it but I prefer The Melodians version.
There's two kinds of people in this world....Those that like John Mellencamp and those that don't. 8^)

Religion is dangerous because it trains you to be gullible. You're conditionned from birth to accept a narrative without critical thinking and fact checking, to blind acceptance without questionning. Critical thinking, and pointing incoherences, is seens as the word of the devil, or something similar, that you should never do.
This right there, is the basics of brainwashing : make someone forbid himself from questionning the validity of what they think to be true, and they'll try to rationalize away any cognitive dissonance to the point of insanity in order to defend their beliefs and make other people accept them as truth.
The whole point of any (organized) religion is to brainwash a population so they can live by pumping money from the pockets of their sheeps.
As a society forming tool, religions have played a big role in the past. But today, this tool is obsolete, and still only exists to ransom gullible people and push their own detrimental angenda for the profit of a small cynical minority.

Much respect to you and your message from this atheist. You rightly make the distinction between self-motivated giving and the repulsive, manipulative message of the prosperity gospel preachers. You even mention indulgences -- the remission of one's own sins, or the sins of dead relatives, in exchange for money by which, among other things, the entirety of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome was financed -- and that the practice was discontinued in the Reformation (I would add, by pressure from secular society, not internal reform within the Catholic Church).

Played this in my 90’s religion class. The nun, who ran the class not a teacher, lost her shit. Grabbed me by the ear, said I was going to the office. No joke. Needless to say, I was back in class three days later.
Side bar, being raised by actual teachers, putting hands on a student big foe paw. I did protect myself 😂. Broken nose, dislocated shoulder, and a comfy pension. Th s by the Catholic Church.
I was expelled, no lies, better off for it.
Suicidal, bad religion, etc spoke so much truth.
I’m not religious, just see people as energy, wave lengths,. Jimmy and Tammy, stole so much money, and got away with it, let that sink in. Never mind jimmy swaggart,.

I'm no longer a Christian...an apostate, if you will. I'll just say if more Christians had your perspective & common sense, maybe I'd rethink my views on Christianity. Probably not, bc of how I feel & my own life experiences...but I'd certainly be a little less "venomous" at times. I don't fault people who are Christians or hate them. I simply don't believe the way they do. Everyone expected me to be the next great evangelist...I'm obviously not. My mother is & her works PROVE she is...she doesn't have to say it. And I hope there is a heaven bc she certainly deserves it. I won't join her there, ofc, but for HER faith & belief, I want it to be true for her. Really liked your reaction, sir

My band covers this song and I love to play it. At the time the song was released, the tele-evangelsists were running rampant all over. I beleive this song is in protest of those tele-evangelsists and how fake they all are. Money grubbing Hippocrates. From my perspective, Jesus loves me no matter if i give him my 10% or not. I pay myself first and foremost. If I have anything left after all is said and done, then I'll give. I dont need to go to church or watch some fake on TV in order to beleive.
