    I worked my first job for months to save up and buy my Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure and Jet Grind Radio. My little brother and I spent many hours playing it together and just loving everything about the console. What an amazing machine.

      I have a similar experience. I had just started getting some of my own money and the Dreamcast was such ’dream’ from the first minute i saw the thing.
      I was at the video game store with my brother when we first saw it and we had to pool our money together that same day so we could get it right then, and together with my brother i bought tons of games and nearly all peripherals because we had the keyboard, fishing rod, arcade stick and light gun.
      Dreamcast has been our favorite console since because it was such a unique experience and even an exclusive experience because we were the only ones cool enough to get one. Only one friend of a friend also had one but we bought that system from him so we both got our own systems😂❤

    Happy 25th Anniversary to the Sega Dreamcast's North American Launch. I got a Sega Dreamcast in 2012 as an early birthday present with Sonic Adventure 1&2, Sonic Shuffle, Sega Smashpack Volume 1, and Namco Museum. It was special to me as my grandfather passed away just 3 days later. I have since collected other games for the Dreamcast like Crazy Taxi, Daytona USA, Sega Rally 2 Championship among other titles.

    I was stationed in Alabama and drove 30 miles to pick a Dreamcast up on Launch Day. To this day that's probably my favorite system. NFL 2K, NBA 2K, Sonic Adventure 1&2, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter III Third Strike, House of the Dead, Crazy Taxi 1& 2, Shenmue, Virtua Tennis, and a bunch of other games...I had so much fun with that console.

      If Sega had added the capability for the Dreamcast to play DVDs and to disable it from playing burnt games, then gaming history might have looked a bit different for the short term atleast. Adam has mentioned this before that Sony presented the PS2 as an all in one entertainment system for the living room for the whole family. Microsoft had concerns that this was going to replace the PC, so they generated their own gaming division. Sega was losing a lot of money, and the infamous squabbles and craziness of both Sega of America and Japan might haven't salvaged the Dreamcast.
      Regardless, thebDreamcast left one hell of a legacy, and Sega bowed out of the gaming market with a behemoth still being revered and praised to this day by major publications, fans, and pop culture fanatics.
      It's a real iconic piece of hardware with a library of games that kicks ass.

    9/9/99. Even for me as a european gamer, this always meant something :D We got the system a bit later in october of 99, but even I knew back then what this date meant for Sega and the Dreamcast. Great marketing all around if you even hear about this on the other side of the world, without having internet access. And of course to this day one of the coolest consoles ever :)

    Best two year run that any console ever had. Awesome price, probably best launch lineup ever for any American release, massive jump over previous generation, ended up being as good as later consoles of next gen, best online experience of its generation, could go on. Just absolutely nothing wrong about buying that DC on 9.9.99 and enjoying it for the next 2-3 years and later as a retro console. At that point there was nothing they could do vs Sony's lies that PS2 in game experience would be exactly like a live action movie. If I was going to criticize something, kind of sucked there were only a small handful of great RPG experiences. In the other genres it had so much great stuff right away.

      Resident Evil 3, while released on the PS1, Code Veronica originally released on the Dreamcast in 1999/2000, until it was ported to the gamecube in 2002 as the director's cut version.

    Maybe before I'm dead, someone will come with the bright idea of a new Sega console. It's really needed given today's gaming space. Coming every september, the dream it's still there. Old man stupid hope I guess. About the Blockbuster VMU: open it. Things are meant to be enjoyed not permanently encased. As long as you don't throw it on the ground and stomp on it, it will be very well preserved. It's not like you'll fill it with grease, dirt and scuffs.

    Yep, hard to believe! Still my all-time favorite console. I grew up with all the Nintendo systems and loved them but Dreamcast took things to a whole other level that I could hardly believe. I remember seeing a screenshot of Megaman in Cannon Spike and it looked so detailed so I thought it was completely fake (which was common at the time to make fake CG screenshots). Then I learned it was actually real and on a console by Sega! So I asked for Christmas to get one and my dad got an entire bundle with 2 games, 2 controllers, a VMU, and the console for only $90 from Sam's Club! It was so fun playing Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi and the Dreamcast Magazine demos! But then when PSO came out, and I got online on day one, playing with people from all over the world, my mind was completely blown! I was so excited I was shaking! I remember my best friend coming home with me and watching me get online and he freaked out and made me go with him to buy it and help him set up his Dreamcast to get online too! Then of course we got addicted to it and played any second that we weren't in school - hardly ever sleeping! Yeah... those were the days!

    I've always felt if Sega wasn't so hurting financially they could have at least got a few more quality years out of the Dreamcast & got it close to Gamecube & Xbox sales. Imagine two more years on the level 2000 was in terms of releases. Would have been pretty wild.

    What a console! The Dreamcast was a huge leap in technology from the PSX era and I still remember my jaw dropping when I first saw Sonic and Sega Rally on it. It was finally a real arcade experience at home, and it was FUN! Another unforgettable first sighting was Shenmue. Personally, the games I spent most of my time on were Jet Set Radio, Sega GT, Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future, and Crazy Taxi. It died out too soon TBH, and the active development 26 years later is nothing but a testimonial to how great it was. Moreover, many of its games have made it to the following console generations and they're still being bought on Steam, Xbox Games Store, and PSN.

    I have only had the privilege of playing a Dreamcast one time as a kid, but that one impression left a big impact. I was visiting family in another state and hung out with a cousin who had a Dreamcast. We played Sonic Adventure 2, which had just been released. I was a massive Sonic fan, but had only had access to ports of old Sonic games on PC (Sonic 3💙). I knew 3D Sonic games existed, but didn't know what they were called or how to play them. Needless to say, that game blew my mind. I didn't know games could be that fast, detailed, or expansive (the chao garden also blew my mind). And the system was so cool. The sleek, white rocketship-shaped controller and matching space-age console were almost as mesmerizing as the game. It's one of the few childhood moments I vividly remember.
    That's still the only time I've played a dreamcast. I waited wayyyy too long to buy one and now I'm priced out of that library. Before retro prices went bonkers, I kinda focused on collecting for Gamecube and other Nintendo systems at the expense of most other potential areas in my collection, including Sega consoles. Hoping to land a deal on a Dreamcast one of these days and burn a big stack of GD-ROMs!
    (Thanks for coming to my Tedtalk)

My brother and I saved every penny and eventually we saved and my Dad took us to Best Buy to get one. With the console we got Sonic Adventure and a 3rd party controller (red astro pad). We didn't get a VMU so for like a few weeks we weren't able to save any of our Sonic Adventure files so we kept starting over every time we wanted to play, haha.

    I'd love it if Vice City were ported to Dreamcast but GTA III is good enough. I'd also love it if Sonic Heroes and Shadow The Hedgehog could have DC ports just so they felt more at home.

    I remember buying the seaman game with the microphone attachment for the controller. You raised and interacted with a fish that had a human face.

      I also remember carrying around my memory card with the little creature from the sonic game on it that you raised. Then you could see it in the game b

    I kinda wish we got a Dreamcast full library video like you did for the Wii U lol, I liked the video though don’t get me wrong but I wanna hear your thoughts on all the dreamcast games even if it was over 2 hours haha

    • @AdamKoralik
      @AdamKoralik  2 місяці тому +1

      So the Wii U had about 200 games and took 2 hours.
      Dreamcast has roughly 800. So...by that math....you're talking about an 8 hour video.

    • @cameronstein905
      @cameronstein905 2 місяці тому +1

      @@AdamKoralik if you wanted to narrow it down to the US library and highlight a handful of notable imports I think it might be doable. Isn’t there 250 in the US?

    • @cameronstein905
      @cameronstein905 2 місяці тому

      That or do a couple focusing on each region if you wanted to be thorough, but I see where you’re coming from 8 hours would be pretty gluttonous lol

    I wanted a Dreamcast so bad, I was 14 when this came out and I didn't have my own money, and by the time I did the console was already cancelled. I did get one eventually though.
