From coast to coast by night and day, hear the clickin' of the wheels
The hummin' of the diesel on her ribbons of steel
Carryin' the memories of a nation built by hand
See the Indian Pacific span the land
She's the pride of all the railway men 'cross country where she flies
From the blue Pacific waters to where the mountains rise
By lakes and wide brown rivers, through desert country dry
See the Indian Pacific passin' by
Oh the Indian Pacific she goes rollin' down the track
Five thousand miles to travel before she's there and back
Beside the line, a drover waves his battered old grey hat
And kids are catchin' yabbies down by the river flat
And a woman hangs her washing in a backyard near the line
As the Indian Pacific's rollin' by
Instrumental
Hear the whistle blowin' lonely 'neath the Nullabor star light
Saluting those who walk across the track she romps tonight
Callin' to the railway camp and the fettlers on the line
I'm the Indian Pacific, right on time
From the silver of the Broken Hill to old Kalgoorlie gold
She mirrors all the colours of the land so hard and old
Then the western clouds are blooming and the air is just like wine
And the Indian Pacific's makin' time
Oh the Indian Pacific she goes rollin' down the track
Five thousand miles to travel before she's there and back
From the waters of the western sea to the eastern ocean sand
The Indian Pacific spans the land
Oh the Indian Pacific spans the land
Slim Dusty, AO MBE (born David Gordon Kirkpatrick; 13 June 1927 - 19 September 2003) was an Australian country music singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. He was an Australian cultural icon and one of the country's most awarded stars, with a career spanning nearly seven decades and numerous recordings. He was known to record songs in the legacy of Australia, particularly of bush life and renowned Australian bush poets Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson that represented the lifestyle. The music genre was coined the "bush ballad", a style first made popular by Buddy Williams, the first artist to perform the genre in Australia, and also for his many trucking songs. Dusty was the first Australian to have a No. 1 international hit song, with a version of Gordon Parsons' "A Pub with No Beer". He received an unequalled 37 Golden Guitar and two Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Country Music Roll of Renown.
I think Chad Morgan is the only old time Aussie Music Man left alive. Where did we go wrong? why did we change? Why does every Country Music Artist in Australia sound like an American now? Why are we ashamed to sound the way we do?
RIP Slim, quite a Band you got going up there mate.
Yes, it is so sad that our young generations chose to follow the ugly Way & NOT to our traditional Aussie way, keeping entertainment clean & entertaining. Sadly we don't have any entertainers now,.. there all gone..😢
There never a day goes by i don't play a Slim song
My Father used to work on the Indian Pacific in the early 70's.
He loved Slim.
RIP to them both.
My dad was a Railroad man in the States. He worked the Great Northern.
The soul personified of authentic Australia. Greetings from Las Vegas
Well said Mate.
You nailed it!
Used to listen to this on sw radio when a Fettler at Wynbring South Australia, later as Ganger at Immarna and then No2 gang at Kingoonya
I miss slim he will always be a legend
Me too Mel, I was watching something on tv at about 3pm on the 3rd of September in 2003, when out of nowhere a picture of Slim came onto the tv screen, I remember saying to my wife, I BET SLIM DUSTY HAS DIED LISA!!😮 AS I just knew, it couldn't have meant anything else!! AND, sure enough as soon as the 4 pm news came on the tv, it said he'd passed away, I remember crying and clapping and saying 'GOOD ON YOU MATE!!😢 AND in 2000, Lisa my wife came home from work, and said 'I've got some good news for u PETE!!🙂 I just bought us 2 tickets to the Slim Dusty show!! Which is being held at the Kallangur RSL CLUB!!😮 Which is in the suburb we live in!! I just couldn't believe it Mel!! I remember thinking y would Slim come here too Kallangur!! When he could very easily have sung at the Entertainment Centre!!??? Which holds 1000s of seats!!??🤔 But!! Sure enough it was right alright!! AND, Lisa's late father, who was almost a full BLOODED aboriginal man, knew Slim quite well!! AND, slims song 'Tall dark man in the saddle' always reminded me of her father! But, I thought...'What d b the odds of Slim Dusty singing that very song!!??? I'd been to about 5 of Slims concerts in Coonamble where I was born, and another Concert at Gualargambone when I was about 5 years old, but, he'd never sung that song at any concert I'd ever been too Mel. But!! When he came out onto the stage, he said..I decided I'm going to mix it up a bit tonight, and sing some of my older songs too!! AND after he sang 2 other songs 1st, he said..' I'd like to sing a Stan Coster song that I recorded many years ago, and it's called 'Just a tall dark man in the saddle!!'😮 I looked at Lisa, stunned and Gobsmacked Mel!! AND, Slim sung it beautifully too!! It was just amazing almost as if it was meant too be Mel!!

Dwight Lemke. You sir, with the greatest respect and no offence meant, must never nave been on a train trip or you would instantly relate to the lyrics. One point of interest. Joy McKean (Slims' wife) wrote this song and I see the images so crystal clear in my mind.
Every time I hear Slim, it takes me back to better and simpler times, always to the memory of my Grandmother, nursing us kids and singing to Slim 🇦🇺❤️
We done us proud ,Man from snowy river and Leave him in the long yard by Slim please

Привет хорошие люди
Australia has Dusty, America has Woody.
Rip Jfarnham
Be good Slim Dusty
who is the guitarist , great finale to the song on solo
Pretty sure the young fella on the electric is Ian Simpson. Best known as a 5-string banjo virtuoso, but a very fine muso all-round.
Spot on. Fiddle player is Mike Kerrin. The both went on to form Flying Emus with John & Genni Kane. Top country/bluegrass Aussie band
I think Mike might have been a pall bearer at slims funeral
Я за вас хорошие люди Я Саша

29 dislikes?! wtf
They be peoples what like (K)rap music!
maybe cuz no subtitles video, not the performance
Not to criticize slim or anything(I love his music and songs) but does it look like in his later years he was relying on the other band members to do the music while he concentrated on singing to anyone else?
