I grew up in Seattle during this time. In seventh grade I went to the Pike Place Market and bought a bald wig from a costume store. I dressed up as Ralph and had a routine for our jr. hi. talent show that included "my dog Storm." Fifty years have flown by....
I remember the late night ads for Ralph Williams NW Chrysler Plymouth. They'd run FOREVER. Seemed like he'd give a review of every car on the lot. That must have been a hoot - your talent show. In my neck of the NW we had the real car dealer clown show - Dick Balch. He came to my Jr. High. Balch went to Franklin HS in Seattle.
The late legendary Chick Lambert - Auto sales pitchman extraordinaire! Looks a bit like Gene Hackman in this B&W ad preceding the one he later canned for Bay Shore with his own dog on hood of the station wagon.
This commercial is from 1970 after Williams left San Francisco for Seattle to do his car business there following the closure of his Bayshore Chrysler-Plymouth in January 1970. This came almost a whole year before the entire state of Washington immediately seized the dealership on warrants charging non-payments of more than $143,000 in back taxes and penalties on December 30, 1970. His dealership immediately closed after his last Seattle commercial aired on June 8, 1971 following his seize. By the time of his closure, he had ten dealerships in total including five in Canada. The dealership here would eventually become a Toyota dealership under the name "Evergreen Toyota" that same year. Williams continued on with dealership advertisings later in the 1980s back in California.
I remember in the Los Angeles/Long Beach area in the early 80s, when Ralph was back on TV selling from the lot again. People all asked, "Oh, when did that SOB get out of jail?"
This one was one of his best. I also liked his Bay Area spot also on youtube. These were done to keep the salespeople happy, a few good laughs can do wonders for sales.
These commercials were never aired. They were done during the actual filming. It was basically inside humor, something never intended to air. Some comic relief during very boring sessions. Take after take.
Born and raised in Seattle and remember the Ralph Williams tv commercials especially on weekends. My childhood friend memorized many of the Ralph and Chick tv ads in detail including models, engines and of course 4 brand new white sidewall tires. In one ad Chick stated his dog Storm never scratches the paint on cars he mounted as he always kept his claws in. My friend could still run through those ads over 50 years later. One time on a flight from Seattle to Reno aboard a Boeing 727 he stood in the aisle of the plane and entertained everybody mimicking tv commercials. He was also great at imitating voices which made it all the better. That accountant friend missed his calling.

Trained by Jackie Cooper . Lol . Unfortunately nobody reading this has no idea who I’m talking about . Jackie was great . And Jackie Cooper was from South Carolina and I adored him .
What's even funnier if no one else has caught it yet is that the '67 Fury he's standing by not only has a bent right fender, but the right high beam (bottom one) headlight is broken?
When I 1st Moved to L.A. in 69 I would see him on Local Commercials, he had a Ford Dealership in the Valley in Encino, & his Commercials were Clean/Sanitized. Nothing Like This!
Michael Hraba Chick was Ralph's brother-in-law. He did a lot of Ralph's commercials in LA when Ralph wasn't around to do them himself...or was in jail for bad business practices (bait-and-switch,etc). Every dealership Ralph had,Chick was with him.
@@paulwalker1443 It was suggested on another UA-cam video that it was done to use up the excess film at the end of a reel. There's a minute or two left, so they just goof around so that they can use up the reel and change it out.
Did they actually run these commercials in the 60's with those words? Funny as hell. He's describing every lying ass kissing car salesmen on the planet.
What the hell......where's Storm? This has to be a gag they made to be shown to insiders only. Chick was one hell of a pitchman but it's just not the same without his german shepherd.

nope, not AI, but a gag reel from old commercial recording days. Once they filmed the commercial and got a good take, if they had spare time left on the tape, they'd use it for funny things like this.
Chick passed away a few years. He was living in a assisted living facility. I knew him well, he was a very, very cool guy.

Sadly yes
Thats what we're talkin' 'bout 😂😂😂
That killed me
Yessir, Firestone sold 'em to Ford in the 80s and 90s knowing they were defective.
Lived with those commercials. So funny. Thank you.

I saw this commercial during a rerun of I Love Lucy about 4 months ago.

Very nice! Thanks for posting!
I don't know why I laugh so hard to this but I do.
The sickest thing is that Old Plymouth Fury was a better car than today and the price was only $1,266.00.
Would love to have that car wether it be a 360 or a 383.
Inflation adjusted to 2024....
$12,300 approx.
Still a bargain
its probably the down payment
Used car not new price
So awesome.
I remember some of these from Seattle stations as a kid. Still funny today.
Ralph had a good sense of humor.

The old school... nowadays no one would dare sell a car (or anything) that way... instead we have the brave advertising of... Jaguar.
Did they actually run these commercials in the 60's with those words?
Funny as hell. He's describing every lying ass kissing car salesmen on the planet.
Oh hell no, lol.. never would hear that on tv back then. That's what makes it funnier!
You could call these takes "gag reels". If they ever did air, the FCC would yank them off so fast the advertisers head would spin.
Agreed, its funny and true! I wonder how much more chick lambert is out there...........
So this was just some inside joke they filmed during commercials???
