I used to watch allot of other channels but lately I'm stuck on your channel. Matt ,your Dad has tout you well and your brother is learning from you. Very nice channel . Cheers!
A little off topic here ... I stumbled upon the videos of Coast Guard Alaska - Kodiak. Eye opening and some are exceedingly sad. Beautiful and amazing scenery. You guys please be careful in your travels.
The USCG is amazing. A very valued asset for our communities and the nation. No mater what your walk in life or situation, they are there and ready to lend a hand. Injured hikers, medical emergencies on land or sea, lost hunters it makes no difference.
I know its really hard work down in that fish hold, freezing cold standing in ice brine!. My hat goes off to you! You put most to shame! And matt your a really nice kid your relationship with your father is beautiful cherish your days out at sea you've got something special, following in your fathers footsteps seems a rare thing these days! And not to forget your bro and your mother, you all work so hard its refreshing and a pleasure to watch you fish!! IS RITE ANDY LIVERPOOL UK 👍
@@EISAlaska I was a commercial fisherman, and I love watching you guys, it brings me back to some of my best memories I have ever had thanks. I'm your biggest fan. Thanks I love all of you.
Another terrific fishing adventure guys! The best way to describe your family commercial fishing business is "harmony". You all work very hard, but compliment each other so well. I have been watching for many months and I've never heard anyone ask someone else to do anything...because you all truly work together and everyone knows what needs to happen/when in order to accomplish the tasks at hand (whether its fishing, gardening, or refurbishing or repairing or reconstructing your two boats...you all are like a well practiced team or a finely tuned machine. Your talents, skill sets and especially your family's close-knit relationship is inspirational. EIS is one of my favorite UA-cam channels!
Nice to see your Mom on the boat. She sure was bundled up on this video. Tell T we said hi. Looks like it's getting cold. Here in the UP of Mich we're in the 10s overnight and in the low 20s to mid 30s in the daylight. Snow usually waits till the new year to blast up for a few months. Your short days are a killer. The long days of summer sure make up for it. Love visiting the mainland Alaska but after watching your videos, I feel I missed a beautiful part of it. Maybe next time.
Thanks for commenting, koslund! I'll tell him. Usually we don't get super cold here, being in the gulf whenever a southeast-southerly comes in it brings moisture so warms it up (also creates a big sloppy slushy mess). Hope you can make it backup someday!
Matt great video. I enjoyed watching you and Dad offloading the haul. Looked like monster Halibut. WOW. You got home in time before the storm. Stay Warm Stay Safe
Awesome off load, ya worked hard for that one n did a Great job. I always look forward to the next video of either fishing or working on the new boat, I'm learning a lot. Thanks for sharing. God bless ya's n stay safe out there
Beautiful pile of nice fish. I'm feeling the need for some cod! Any frozen fish we get around here all list sodium tripolyphosphate as an ingredient so that the fillets soak up water like a sponge and weigh more. You have to squeeze it before cooking. And the taste and quality never comes close to yours.
Awesome business you guys have. Been watching several days now. Your videos show a family fully committed to the fishing industry. Keep them coming. I need to try some of your catch, add a little variety to our menu. We catch and eat: pompano, trout, reds, flounder, mackerel to name a few.
Guy's Thank You for the video!! Nice average in the off load for the time of year. Salty brine can be rough on the hands and legs. Have you guys looked into neoprene waders and gloves. I'm glad you made it home safe. 👍👏👏👏👏
We wear neoprene gloves, the atlas gloves that are orange and blue. As for our legs the Grunden bibs do the trick, unless you kneel down and water runs in, you're just fine.
I always admired the excellent fish care that you all do...and it inspires me to do the same. Happy holidays from all of us on P.O.W..Island. Have safe travels.
Yelloweye rockfish followed by cod and black rockfish. All delicious species and so easy to prepare in just about any dish. We hade yelloweye sliders with a side of coleslaw for dinner last nite. It was so tasty!
Beautiful looking haul❣️ Thanks for sharing!!!! I am expecting my cod/rockfish shipment on Tuesday So looking forward to the many meals it will provide us❣️
Question - how do you all clean out your holds on the boat after a haul? Are there some sort of regs that say you have to use something to sanitize it or anything like that? Duh had to keep watching to see you do it. sorry about that... hehe
Thanks, Zed! We have hats on our site, but haven't had time to work on sweatshirts etc. just yet. Feel free to drop a line sales@eisalaska.com we'll get you set up.
You should keep your throats on those fish and sell them. Some people really like them . Another way to pay for gas on that boat. I dont know if you do that already. Great videos. Cheers from Ontario.
Beautiful catch, and iced perfectly for the processor. I have a feeling that "yellow eye" is your favorite, is it? Are they in the wasse family? Great trip guys, not you can rest for a few days!
That's the plan William! It's hard to fish the little boat in the winter, and the Emerald Isle will also allow us to fish some areas further away from town.
Good to see you made it to offload before the blow landed upon you up there! On some of your smaller halibut, what is an average dressed weight on smaller halibut? Just watching Matt cut the yellow eye filets, do you have a market for the skeletal remains? Just curious of how such remains could be used for fish stock? Hope you ride out that storm Safely and remain Healthy! -Bob...
Nice offload Len/Matt! Looks like catch numbers are holding up later in the season...always good. Do you guys target black cod... which used to be a good fishery for us down here in WA?
Thanks Gary. No we don't hold any blackcod quota. We have considered getting into the fishery, especially with the advent of slinky pots. It's a big investment though.
Good catch and yeah nice filets on those yellow eyes. Never have caught or tasted a yellow eye. How similar do they taste compared to ling cod ? Cheers
Will you be able to aquire a second (larger take) halibut permit for the Emerald Isle and still keep the existing halibut permit for the Fish Tale? Or will you just use the Fish Tale and the long-line gear to catch halibut?
I'm curious about expenses, fuel, bait, permits, and other gear. And what market is paying for Halibut, cod, crabs and other fishes. Is it worth the expense, maintenance and labor?
We used to be able to keep the checks from lings reds and halibut. Oh until they figured out there w asa market dang it id bring home 200 pounds of checks every year
Great catch for just a couple of days there guys!!! Now you have some great fish for a good batch of Chowder!! Do you add potato's to your chowder??🥣Yum yum...

looks like a nice haul, still watching from north Carolina
I like to go down each side of the dorsal fin b4 finishing out the fillet, it gives a better angle for the second side.

With the bigger boat will you be able to go out fishing in more inclement weather and longer with that larger fish hold? ty for the video nice haul.

How much bigger is the new boat?? Cheers andy

We usually end up with around 52% yield on them, hard to tell the difference between big and small. The carcass would make great stock.
Awesome video and catch guys...just how many trips do you make fishing for Halibut and Cod a year?
Thanks, gazellis! This season we did 4 or 5 trips.
Good catch and yeah nice filets on those yellow eyes. Never have caught or tasted a yellow eye. How similar do they taste compared to ling cod ? Cheers
I think they taste similar, slightly more buttery perhaps. Very firm and thick flakes.
How's the new boat coming along. Have you had a chance to work on it lately
It's coming along slowly but surely. November really got away from us but we're getting back to it now.
Will you be able to aquire a second (larger take) halibut permit for the Emerald Isle and still keep the existing halibut permit for the Fish Tale? Or will you just use the Fish Tale and the long-line gear to catch halibut?
For now we plan to continue fishing halibut on the Fish Tale. We'll definitely keep it in mind going forward on the Emerald Isle.
Wow, very good fishing brothers, how many kilos did you deliver? greetings from Argentina!
This was around 1500 lbs if I recall correctly.
Some 15 years ago we caught some cod in Ireland but the meat was full of nematodes. Do you have this problem in Alaska too?
We get some with parasites at times. Bringing them down to temp for a period of time kills any missed in processing.
@@EISAlaska Thanks for the answer!
What happened to T haven't seen him in a while I've asked several times and got no response
He was off island when we were out on this trip.
What do you do with the orange fish take home and eat
WHEN YOU ARE OUT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS LIKE THIS TRIP, APPROXIMATELY HOW MUCH IS YOUR FUEL COSTS?
On a three day trip with a 12 hour run to the grounds we will burn 70 - 80 gallons of fuel. So somewhere in the range of $250 dollars.
Out of the 3 different fish on board what do you like the best.?
And also which payed the best halibut or cod?
Yelloweye is my favorite! Halibut pays the most by a large margin.
Great catch! What was the total weight of the catch?
I believe the round weight was around 2500 pounds of halibut. Cod was 250 pounds or so.
Nice catch! I was scrolling down to see if anyone asked this. Great videos as always 😊
👍
What do you guys like better halibut or salmon. Which pays the best
Salmon. We don't really eat much halibut. Halibut pays better though.
Is this same fish processing center you always use. I ask cause you usually have nets lowered down to load the fish on. Different company this time???
Yes, different company. New kids on the block so good to spread the work around. They will get a brailer (net) soon we hope!
@@EISAlaska Thank you for the clarification
LOUIE
I'm curious about expenses, fuel, bait, permits, and other gear. And what market is paying for Halibut, cod, crabs and other fishes. Is it worth the expense, maintenance and labor?
Where’s Tristan been?
He was off island during this trip.
WAS THAT A SNAPPER OR A ORANGE GROUPER ????? Okay I heard you say yellow eyed we don't call them that in Florida
Yep, Yellow Eye. They are marketed as red snapper down south.
We used to be able to keep the checks from lings reds and halibut. Oh until they figured out there w asa market dang it id bring home 200 pounds of checks every year
Big brother
Two flounder chicken ha

Rockfish and cod are very close contenders. Easy to cook and delicious.
