I think the craziest concept out there are solar sails. By weird physics principles, apparently it's theorized that specialized sails could be deployed in space and these would catch a stars radiation and be propelled along by it. It's super crazy and even more insane if it actually is plausible. I don't know enough about it to say more, just that it's a concept that was thought up. So, space boat? Everything ends in space.

mm idea: you only have 5 minutes to build somrthing, then you race it. next, everybody take the winning vehicule and upgrade it for five minutes and you redo this again so at the end the winning boat will be an amelioration of the previous winning boat and you can do this how many times you want, i fell like 3 times is the best thought

Funny story about land boats; so I like sailing (it's a legit sport) and the first boat I ever sailed was an Optimist (floating bathtub). At XYZ boat club, there was an opti with wheels. This opti was a practice opti to train us 6 year olds to be used to sailing before actually going on the water, therefore preventing us from capsizing before we knew how to not capsize. However, much to the dismay of the coaches, the land opti could actually sail on land. The parking lot was not a fun place to drive with a bunch of kindergartners "sailing" in it.
Edit: More boat tips from Donke! On boats, primarily sailboats, there's this thing called a keel. It's basically a giant rudder at the bottom of the boat that keeps it flipping by moving the center of mass down. This also stops bouncing.

TLDR: the less contact with the water your boat makes at top speed makes it drastically faster; both of the other boats were practically under the surface and looked about as aerodynamic as a brick with the front shaved down whilst yours was basically a wing with pontoons on. This is one of the main reasons why the fastest sailboats are all catamaran style ships that make extensive use of hydrofoils.
They basically fly above the water while barely 1% of the boat actually touches the water.
You could have made your boat up to a third faster easily just by reducing the size of those massive rudders or replacing them with an actual tailfin (like on a plane) although doing so would make steering at low speeds nearly impossible.

I really hope that this water physics/interaction mechanics improves in this game. Currently it's very much so of no matter what I design, be it a brick or a sleek speedboat, the water props only get you going so fast. It seems like the less I'm in the water, the faster I go, which is counter intuitive to buoyancy balance (you want a lower center of gravity than the floating point), so there's no real winning with the current set up to my knowledge besides just strapping jet engines to your creation.
But here's a unique creation idea for a race. Hoverpads in the front, single wheel of any size in the back for steering. Propelled by thrusters. You can only use enough hoverpads to get the front end hovering, meaning you can't plaster the bottom of your vehicle with hover pads for stability. That 1 wheel is your only contact with the ground, so no stabilizing pegs or training wheels or skids. So it's a hybrid hover-motor-jet cycle.
