The fact that this channel is still free of music, screaming, nauseating brand promotion... just a man and his Kayak. Cheers brother. You're a cut above the rest.
It's been said before but best fishing channel on UA-cam. No pushing cheap products, stupid challenges, or collaborations that don't make sense...just you, nature, and hopefully some fish each video!
the narrator has such a soothing calm voice... this is how you make a youtube video. No stupid over music and intros that take up half the video and sponsor breaks and stupid cut scenes. Much respect.
Respect from the UK 🇬🇧. From what I’ve seen so far from your videos your there for the sport and put the fish back and not like other videos where they have to kill, I have now subscribed
Man yeh...dead-stickin' for cats in the mud! A favorite method on the Little Kanawha and Ohio Rivers here. Great content AGAIN Matt! So well edited and curated and STILL included the forgotten paddle and tangled lines...so relatable and still amazing...TWO IN THE NET AT ONCE DUDE! EPIC! Almost as good as the two on the same lure.
You, sir, are awesome. From a lifelong MN fisherman, I have to say you do it all right. Super duper excited to see what this season brings you. Thanks for sharing the fun with us.
Been following you since I believe Covid started and haven’t stopped since. You are a big part of the reason I got back into fishing again. Even bought a small 12’ Grumman and refurbished it. Best investment I have made and been fishing ever since. Love your channel brother. It’s like being there and almost as enjoyable. Almost.😊
@@ElectronicMusicUnderground I put a little more money into it than I should have but made her my own being my first boat. But I am happy and get a lot of compliments about her so, all in all, not disappointed. Had some really good fishing with her and plan on a lot more.
😂 at least you saw you were missing the paddle before launching. Once I was so excited to get out of work and hit the lake I launched my canoe and since the wind was blowing me where i needed to go I decided to drift while rigging my poles. Once i finished rigging I went to grab a paddle and nope, not there. I looked back at the boat launch and there they were leaning up against my car. I had to quickly tie on a Big-O and cast it into the bushes on shore and reel myself back in.
I know there's lots of Southern Boys just droolin' at the thought of a good ole Southern Catfish Fry gone to waste with those three big Channel Cats caught & released...still, I'm glad you let em go...nice fishin' 😊
Love this channel just got a kayak and excited to get out on it. It’s great you fish multi species and don’t over complicate things with all sorts of lures and gear and crazy info. Catching fish isn’t rocket science.
A marvellous fishing day with the channel cats. Two of them at a time in the net and afterwards a third one. All of them good sized. The spring day and the American Red River of the North are so beautiful. A remarkable and smart description of the equipment by our good friend Matt…Those detailed descriptions are one the main assets of this UA-cam channel to me. I find them quite interesting and useful. I really appreciate them. I enjoyed the video a lot, as always. I wish I had caught only just one of those three little pigs in my last fishing trip on my Easter vacation. No channel cat took my nice chunks of mackerel in a Spanish reservoir (La Serena reservoir) that six years ago had been a paradise on them. Surely the extremely low level was a factor. Thanks to this video I “fished “ vicariously this species that was illegally stocked in my country.
I always love watching your channel. You're honest about the things you do and the amount of time it takes you, and don't make things seem easy all the time like the other fisher dudes try to do. Thank you for always being honest, and for making great content out of what you love to do ❤
Well I see what I'm doing wrong,I have to talk in a calm voice instead of cussing the fish lol,and I gotta fish where there's fish😂,I have been using everything even cut bait and absolutely nothing but turtles, awesome video man really like them
I have the Rock River (WI) near me. Not much for game fish but it's GREAT for channel cats! I've launched my Old Town many different places and almost always catch fish. Most times I have the river all to myself.
Love the videos man ... me and the family have been out a few times already on the red and done well but this weekend should be on fire ... my boys finally got to reel in some and loved it ... keep them coming and maybe ill see ya on the river
Lol my and my 10 year old love your videos and you almost sound like Bob Ross when your explaining about the catfish chewing on your bait and your waiting on them to run with ur bait
No doubt! I love your channel! No politics or rainbow colored kayak or lures. Thank you for not making me stop watching you. We all need a place were we can escape all the noise. Let's go fishing. Please stay as you are. I don't need to hear anything but how to fish and watch teach THAT ONLY.
Wow. When I was a kid (60 years ago) we rarely saw catfish over 4 pounds, and we fished all day. Now the Red produces big cats like crazy. I wonder if we simply were unlucky as kids, or if something truly happened in the fishery to produce these monsters. One thing that might be a clue is that we seldom caught goldeyes back then; however, we did catch a lot of carp. One more thing: that is very good fishing, IMO, considering the river is high.
I had similar experience growing up and fishing the Red. I more looked for a good spot on the bank to fish from rather than finding some good fish structure to target, and always used either crawlers or some type of dough bait. I think cut bait makes a big difference. It’s easier to keep the little fish from nibbling the bait away before the big fish gets it.
@@ndyakangler Thanks for your quick reply, Matt. On a lighter note: we used to cut-up carp for catfish bait. We caught our carp at a site where they gathered as thick as flies. We would throw cherry-bombs and silver-salutes into the throng and waited for the results. Then we waded a foot or two into the Red and gathered our future cut-bait. I think the statute of limitations has run out on that crime.
@@ndyakangler BTW: I forgot to comment that I agree with your point that as kids we fished at the easiest, "good spot", not the spot that we now know was much better. That might explain why all our catfish were 2 to 4 pounders.
Another great video Matt! Got some channel cat in the fridge right now that my son and a buddy of his caught; about a 30 pounder; split the meat. Going out fishing on lake Wawasee here in northern Indiana this morning. Have a blessed weekend!!
I'm going to have to start keeping some of the smaller ones when I find them. We picked up a Blackstone griddle last night that should be perfect for making some cajun blackened catfish!
That stretch of the Red River looks a whole lot better than the area that runs through the town I am from. Drayton, North Dakota, the water always seems to be clay colored. Nice channel catfish, though, I would be glad to catch fish that big in the Mississippi River. It's a little high right now, so I will probably wait a few weeks, so the water drops. Nice video Matt.
The fact that this channel is still free of music, screaming, nauseating brand promotion... just a man and his Kayak. Cheers brother. You're a cut above the rest.

I’m always impressed how clean your gear is 😂. After a day on the red for me I’ve got mud caked on my stuff for weeks haha!
It’s much easier to keep clean in the kayak, but even that usually needs a trip to Whale of a Wash after a day on the Red.
Dang I just love this channel, no over the top nonsense. Just pure enjoyable time outdoors
Being able to catch 2 huge channel cats at the same time. Using the same net. In a kayak…. Next level stuff right there!
WOW two at once! What a Professional! Love your show.
Thanks Matt for another great video. You are fishing right by my hometown.
We're on our way up. We come up every spring for the pre-spawn. Phenomenal fishery!!!
