I love these little things. So so simple and a lovely bit of history in a way. I have the Damascus version and it's utterly beautiful in my eyes.
My pleasure mate. Its yours now I've had it for a couple of years now. Great videos on you tube of them being made in little street shops. Atb paddy 👍☘️😃
😮 Paddy man, thank you so much, you're too kind! I'll cherish this one it's a beaut! 😁👍
It’s amazing
It’s a piece of history
It’s handmade
It looks stunning
And it’s a good idea to buy one before they’re gone
Wym before they're gone?
@@triggerhappyeuthey will always be around but what he means is these higonokami knives are made using traditional methods by blacksmiths who have been passing down their knowledge of blade smithing for centuries. Some blacksmiths can trace their lineage back to samurai days where they would be making katanas. Only blades made by these blacksmiths can be called higonokami.
Due to modernisation of Japan these generational blacksmiths are losing their heritage as the younger generations pursue other careers.
These style knives will always be available but the chance to buy one from a traditional smith with actual historical heritage are becoming less and less.
When I saw one of those I instantly fell in love with its story and looks. Great review made me fill an order for my own pocket katana
Im thinking of getting a second
Pocket tanto😊
I didn't like them at first but now I love them
It’s so simple and basic it just reminds me of something that would have been made around the ww1 time period.
I love most things Japanese, especially their swords, but this didn’t move me too much. Still, I was very glad to get to see it.
I have three of these ,one each of the different handle finish they hold a crazy sharp edge ,you can’t go wrong for the price
Btw you are supposed to hammer that pivot point/rivet lightly with a hammer to tighten the action, not to squeeze the handle like what's happened here.
I quite fancy this one. It's a very Japanese design - similar to the small knives that used to be kept in the scabbards of Japanese swords.
Easy to tune them up. They use decent steel, the knife makes a good leather working tool as well. A Dremel, brass hammer and a sharpening stone is all it takes. I love mine. Couple taps of the hammer and the action is "tuned" for the next month or so.
Would a #1000 Niwaki Sharpening Stone do?
I think the mixed opinions are because there are a lot of replicas an knock offs, genuine ones with a makers mark look amazing
These are cool little knives and they come wicked sharp...at least mine have!!
Have you had a ohta fk7 higonokami to use? I love mine
Now that I've just got my first (brass handle, damascus blade), I like these too! I can't work out where mine comes from though - same Japanese lettering on the handle as yours, bought from HH who don't even say that it's a Boker, which is what it says on the box! So I'm mystified. I've written to Boker to see if they'll enlighten me, but I don't expect they will, particularly if it's been 'outsourced' to China...
Hiya do you know where this was bought? Cheers
I'm the same, been wanting to pick one up when getting something else at HH, but even in the pics you can see some are made with more care than others. Fingers crossed, i suppose. ✌🏼👍🏼
True enough, although for the price it's not the end of the world, besides, I think HH will inspect one for you if you order over the phone. I'll order blind for the channel though haha see how my luck holds out!
I wonder if my scout leader will allow this on a camp
If you get one of the more expensive blue paper steel ones the edge that you can get on one of these is ridiculous. Most of the people saying that these are awful are buying crappy fakes, somehow they don't realise they might have been had even when the blade won't even hold itself in the handle.
Yeah like Nick Shabazz
Aogami 1 and 2 and Super Steel (blue paper) are some of the finest knife steels money can buy. Amazed the brass Higonokami uses I think no1 is so "cheap". It's the pure Hitachi White paper steel (1.4-1-5% carbon) with added chromium and tungsten.
What is the difference between the 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 etc?
I’ve heard a lot of diff answers. One being the length of the blade. But when I ordered mine (I got no.6) there were several different numbers with the same stats. So I believe it’s actually the colour of the handle. No.6 is a jade ish green. No.10 was silver I think. Same blade length same blade material same price
What's the size
I think I need to get a second. I love mine
someone was recently found guilty for carrying a svord that was under 3"( the uk version )because it was argued that the lever that opens the knife stops it from folding when held in the hand . the law says it has to be "immediately folding " and this renders all knives like this including the higonokami potentially illegal , just thought i would let people thinking of buying this knife for uk edc know so they can weigh up the risks
Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention, do you have the names of the case or a link to it? I'll remove any friction folder videos in such a case.
@@UKLegalCarryKnives i dont think it was friction folders , just the svord with the defacto lock and nope it was from a friend , i have looked on google for a news article , i will ask my source and see what he says
@@captainflint89 greatly appreciated, I couldn't find anything either but I look forward to the answer either way, thank you for taking the time.
Are you the same guy that does TA-Outdoors??
Not me
If you haven't watched his stuff, it's pretty awesome.. And he is definitely your voice twin!! Haha.
@@joshweld3564 I'll have to check him out just to see! Cheers
@@UKLegalCarryKnives yeah man, really great outdoors tutorials stuff. Also, I just got my first Higonokami today!
These knives dont have a lock 😢
They don't which is what makes them legal to carry here.
@@UKLegalCarryKnives ahhhh there u go then
