So fun to see you hiking as you were my inspiration for Hiking the AT! 700+ miles in and watching you from trail. I know you'll handle the Colorado Trail just fine.
Welcome back! Glad to see you on the trail again. You & Liz were my inspiration for hiking the AT in 2021. I hope you both keep putting out great content. I appreciate that you’re authentic and getting out there, living your best life!
Yessss Evan back on the trail! We learn so much from your videos...thank you for sharing the adventure with us! Of course glad to see the gang back together again.
Yes, my confidence wanes with each passing year (I’m 67). In June I hiked from Amicalola Falls to Neel Gap. I am proud I did it, and I want to continue my AT adventure, but confidence is a major factor for me.
97 degrees is exactly why I delayed my 2023 Colorado trip until late September and early October. Passed on volunteering with the CTF this summer for that very reason. Waited the summer out on Lake Martin, AL cabin. Trust me, at 70, the confidence and determination does indeed wane. At about your age, my will power discovered I wasn't ten feet tall and bullet proof much longer.
I watched your AT videos in 2020. and really enjoyed them. I lived in Ohio then and moved to Denver in Aug 2020. Now I want to do the CO trial both by foot and bike and am looking forward to watching your entire Co Trail adventure. Gear and logistics are what I need to learn more about. I'm still working full time so don't have time for a through hike now, but I will correct that problem very soon. Thank you!
Glad to see you back at it. That heat will really sap it out of you. Hang in there. I just did an overnight at blue springs state park down here in Florida. It was unbelievably hot even at night. You've got this Evan, take care.
Invest in lightweight loose-fitting, long-sleeved cotton shirt. Keep the sun (heat and skin damage) and some of the fly bites off you. A good piece of summer camping kit.
Just found your channel AGAIN. Watched all your AT trip then Liz's. And a bunch of other videos from both you guys. Looks like I'm doing a marathon watch again!
Great to see you three together again out on the trail. We will be in Salida week after next for a couple of weeks. Not sure where y'all will be but if in range, a little trail magic might be in order. Let me know if you're interested.
My first thru-hike in 2021 was the Colorado Trail. Last year I successful thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. The AT was much harder. I'm sure you will love the CT! You got this!
Evan, awesome first video!!! Two days and no storms yet . . . that's a win! I'm trying to decide what 500-mile maximum trail to do this year and it comes down to the Sheltowee Trace or maybe doing the CT again (NOBO this time maybe?). It's still gonna be hot in KY in Sep, so that may drive me to come out to CO again. Would love to hear your thoughts when you get deeper into this journey. The whole CT is amazing, but the West Collegiates and the San Juans are to die for! Good luck, and stay hydrated!!! 🤘🕓
Thanks for the comment. Difficult trail for me so far - probably the terrible heat even more than the elevation. The flies and mosquitoes are horrendous but I try to view them as emissaries sent from the universe to teach me patience. Sheltowee Trace v. The Colorado Trail? CT every time. My all-time favorite trail is the Benton MacKaye Trail. A difficult trail but you get to enjoy complete solitude.
@EvansBackpackingVideos haha...laughed out loud at the bugs comment. They weren’t an issue in late Aug/Sep. I hope they relent as you guys move south. My sinuses were my most challenging part. They were dry and clogged the whole trail. It's a hard damn trail!!! But you're a hard man!! Stay strong!! I have been considering the BMT. It might be a good option this year, but I need cooler temps. Hot hiking sucks. Tell the crew hello! 🕓
Glad you got your pack out again . Watched you all the year u hiked the AT. That year had alot of neat cool people. You are great with all your information about the trail and the history. Your tarp set up are good. I was trying to see if you still hiking in Sandals. Hope you all have good weather.
Hey Evan, I'm excited to follow your new adventure. I want to say that I really appreciate the educational aspect of your videos. As I'm sure you are aware, there aren't many hikers that do the research you do or include that information in their videos. It's awesome, thank you. And tell those kids to sunblock the hell out of those tattoos. they will fade a whole shade lighter in that elevation. lol
Glad to see you and the Liz/Luke team back out on the trail. Doesn’t look like the heat is going away soon for the west and now the east appears to be next as the jet stream shifts north some east of the Mississippi. You know the drill for the heat, water and electrolytes and sunscreen on the tops of the feet for certain. I know you’re nearly a week into it so probably have a rhythm now. Stay cool (you’re already ‘cool’) and good luck!
and with familiar faces from your AT hike too ... I used to post as Ed Wiget, we both hiked sheltowee trace trail, then I hiked BMT the year after you, but then I have been dealing with cancer so no hikes for me .... but at least I am still here because many I was in treatment with aren't. I started training last year for a hike while doing "cancer recovery" ... got to be the dumbest idea I ever had. Didn't pan out at all. Started again a few weeks ago, more mentally like old me now ... still stubborn as usual lol
I hiked the CT in 2017. I was surprised at how much of the trail I recognized from this video and am looking forward to your next installment. The CT was my test to see if I should hike the PCT. I figured if I wished the trail was longer when I finished, then I should. I hiked the PCT in 2018. I was waiting for some video of sheep as you walked by the cliffs.
I’m curious to see the rest of this series for one specific reason: your shelter system is virtually identical to mine…an HMG 8x10 tarp with an MLD bug bivy. This has always been sufficient coverage out east, where you are almost always camping with some tree cover and mild-to-moderate wind exposure. But I want to do the CT in ‘25, and I’m trying to figure out if I need to buy a new shelter for it. I’m eager to see how you fared. And if you see this comment and feel like replying with a little CT tarp beta, I wouldn’t complain.
Yes, a tarp will work fine. I use a square tarp myself but that point shouldn’t make a difference to you. Most of the time you’ll be able to camp in the trees. In my videos, I tried to show my tarp set-ups every night to assist people like you.
Evan, been waiting for this adventure to kick off since Liz announced it last year. I understand your trepidation. The heat and altitude will test you. "It's a dry heat"...right?!! You might consider a lightweight wide brimmed hat. So easy to get burned out there. If not, don't forget the sunscreen! Best of luck! I hope any self-doubt subsides as you get into your trail routine.
On the trail again 👍
Your back Evan. I am so happy. Now I get to once again vicariously live through your adventure!
Hoo-ray and Hot Dam. Sure glad to see Evan (one of my top 5 hikers that make the most super videos) -- on the trails again, the CO trail this time.
Thanks as always!!
But it's dry heat.😄 Glad to see the crew back at it.
So fun to see you hiking as you were my inspiration for Hiking the AT! 700+ miles in and watching you from trail. I know you'll handle the Colorado Trail just fine.
You’re doing great on the AT. Keep it up!
Yes!! I’m so glad you’re back posting hiking videos. I will watch all of them 😊

Cool. This looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks Scott! Luke and Liz say hi
Awesome. Glad you are back at it again, I really enjoy your videos. Have a good hike brother.

It is great to see you again!!!😊
Happy hiking to all 3 of you! I hope it gets cooler for you....and, I understand the lack of confidence that comes with age. 😉
Yeah ! Been looking forward to this!
Awesome! Great to see you guys back together!
Reminds me of clear creek canyon. Love it.
Pumped! Hope you guys and gal have a daggum BLAST!
If I can do it so can you. It takes about 10 days to get your altitude lungs. Glad to see you on trail again. Enjoy the hike.
Found you through Liz! Awesome to be a part of your new journey

I always enjoy following your hikes, I’m glad to see you back.
Woohoo 🥳 Let the adventure begin! As always, thanks for the added fun facts surrounding the trail. Have a great hike! 😃

I’m not sure when we’ll get to Salida but thanks!
Great to see ya out brother. Can’t wait for this series.
Great to see you back out there Evan, I was just in Colorado myself a few weeks ago. Looking forward to seeing your journey on the CT!

Thanks, glad you’re watching!

Glad to see you back on the trail. Cheers!
Good to see you on trail again! Thanks for vlogging your adventure. I enjoy your channel.
Evan, Liz and Luke on the Colorado trail. It doesn't get any better!
Good to see you again Evan!!!!
I forgot how much I enjoy the abrupt, playful edits of your audio tracks.
Appreciate that, thanks!

You're an AT thru hiker. You got this.
nice to see you back out on the trails

So glad your back making videos! I'm heading out to the CT in a few days for a thru hike attempt myself. Best of luck with your adventure!
Good luck on the trail!
Another Great group of videos. Have you guys ever thought of doing the GAP/C & O canal Trail?

Colligate West for sure!!! Loved it! 😊
Don't quit, you can do this trail.
Thanks!
Thanks, planning on doing this the year after next
Good luck!!
Hi Handstand !
On the Colorado it's very rocky and steep. I found that mostly you find flat spots to camp near the water sources. Not as easy to camp as on the AT.
Evan, been waiting for this adventure to kick off since Liz announced it last year.
I understand your trepidation. The heat and altitude will test you. "It's a dry heat"...right?!!

You doing this trail in the Luna’s ?
Attempting, yes …
Do you remember all these facts or do you have a “crib sheet” prepared
I do a lot of research ahead of time and look at my notes sometimes to make sure I don’t make any huge factual misstatements.
You are still “that guy”.
Colorado has banned back packs!
