  • ✓ Documentary: we are very much humbled, in awe and honoured to have visited the kitchen of Southall Temple (Gurdwara) and to have gotten a taste of the tastiest of freshly made food anywhere, being given food that was blessed by hand and human touch and further energised and charged by positive thoughts, this is Absolutely Delicious Spiritually Blessed Food!!!
    It is truly refreshing to come across people who are carrying out unconditional service to help the most needy in our society; this we have found especially with the Sikh / Singh community, their act of Seva, Langar & helping the needy in society touches a nerve deep within our soul.
    In this video documentary movie you can watch the Temple's chapati making process from start to finish, which is all freshly made daily by the volunteer ladies who come in every day.
    We had a plate of the delicious food that was being served up on the day; which was: Mattar Aloo (Garden Peas & Potato Curry), Punjabi Dal Makhni, Kala Chana Aloo (Black Chickpea Curry), Kheer (Rice & Milk Pudding), Dahi (Yoghurt) and of course the freshly made buttered chapatti.
    Volunteer Sikhs give out free langar, langar is Prasad (also known as food blessed by God) so they don't charge for it, so it gets served up for free!!!
    Unlike some places there is nothing hidden and no secret to the recipe because everything is made in the open kitchen in full view of people.
    A very special thank you to Chef & Cook Harbinder, Joint General Secretary Navraj and everyone else we came across who very much welcomed us and graciously allowed us a privileged glimpse into their kitchen to do the videoing even though they were extraordinarily busy.
    The temple and kitchen never closes, it's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, the people at this Temple bring only sunshine into everyone's lives.
    You say Singh, we say King, May God Bless them all for all that they do!!!
    Here's the tag to their various social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter: @sgsssouthall
    Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha is located at Havelock Road, Southall, London, UB2 4NP
    If you are perhaps inspired by this video and want to volunteer or make any form of donation you can phone them on 020 8574 4311

    If you like this open kitchen at the gurudwaara, then learn the following basic expressions and use them next time you go again (the Sikh people appreciate that very much):
    1) Gurudwaara (literally mraning the House of God) is the name of the place where Sikhs worship God (cf: Church, Synagogue, Temple, Mosque) and offer Langar (the free food served is called Langar);
    2) When you enter the Gurudwaara, greet anyone and everyone as follows:
    Sat Sri Akal (literally: God is Truth); Sat => truth; Sri => a title of respect before a name; Akal => God;
    Waheguru da khaalsa (Purity belongs to God);
    Waheguru di fateh (Triumph belongs to God);
    In Sikhism, the One God is known by different names such as:
    Akal
    Waheguru
    Ram
    Rab
    Khudaa
    Allah

      Brother, such a Langar will be going on in any gurudwara near you. If there are 5 Sikh families working an honest day's work in your city, they will build a Gurudwara. And give 10 % to feed anybody who is hungry. They never ask for donations and charity. Who knows how that donated money was earned?
      I guess that is how Sikhs prosper where ever they go. they are given back a hundredfold by God, Allah, Khuda because someone grateful has just said a prayer of Bless these people God, they have fed me.
      Just do a google search of gurudwara near me. This service has been an UNINTERRUPTED service for 400 years. It is only that mankind does not know about this. Gurudwara means Door of the Master. On the internet they call it a Sikh temple. It is not a temple, the same way a mosque is NOT a church.
      Take the name of Allah, enter without fear, sing his praises, eat, and in many gurudwaras you also get clothes free medical aid and feel safe if you reach a place and don't have shelter for the night. You can get a secure bed in a gurudwara. Only don't take any drugs or tobacco into a Gurudwara please. Mussalmans and Sikhs are forbidden alcohol too. That is because our pir- fakeers knew that these intoxicants cause sterility and infertility 600 years ago.

    I have had the greatest privilege to have eaten here and as a white Westerner I was treated no different than the local people. It was so refreshing to see my food served with the same smile the woman on each side of me was served with. Not only do they feed you but they make your soul feel better! I have often thought of going to India and working in the Sikh free kitchens with the women but now I am in a wheelchair and while traveling is not difficult it may be more difficult now to help. Sikhs are the kings and queens of actually doing what they preach! :-) and by preach I mean what they live by not necessarily like Christian preaching.

Someone suggested I could sit and work in the kitchen, and I told them the disability is in my arms too. She felt so bad and I said it was no problem. I pray for you and your good intentions. The Sikh community is incredible. I am called daughter, by many elders in this Gurudwara. May Waheguru be with you always.

      Ma'am, cash donations are not accepted because Sikhs would prefer you to buy food and give to the Guru ka langar. Sikhs normally prefer giving their hard earned tithes of 10 % to feed the poor but they never ever have asked for charity or donations of any cash. That is your money. Buy food, buy medicines, buy clothes... Do some service if you have the time. Gain peace of mind if you have a turbulent spirit just by coming here, and singing the praises of your Lord - maybe the 23rd Psalm- in your heart or the Mul Mantar which is the universal prayer for mankind . It transcends man made religions, castes creeds denominations.

    Sikhs are amazingly generous people.
    I remember my time as a student in London, there were days when I didn't have food, probably surviving just on an apple and banana that I would've had for breakfast.
    One day, a Sikh brother and a friend of mine invited me to the gurudwara to have some food close to dinner time. Thinking that I would be taking the place of a needy person, I kindly declined. Little did I know. I went along hesitantly, was pulled all the way infact, and once there the hospitality and kindess I recieved reminded me of being back home, within my circle of people.
    Since there were not many around, the hosts in the kitchen personally took care of my requirements, all with big, genuine smiles. And what started out as a timid me, ended up eating to the point I couldn't hold any longer, thanks to regular extra servings. I slept so good that night, thanking them a lot more than I could imagine.
    I did frequent the Gurudwara after that, but I made sure I spend more time with the people there, than just be there for the food.
    There is a saying, "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach". And these good souls just did that.
    So much undevided love and respect for them. ❤️

      The langar sewa was started 400 years ago by the 3th master of the Sikhs and it was ' God has given us so much so why should we not serve mankind . 'His word was for the hard working peasants in an area where often they went hungry due to poverty or a cruel feudal Lord.
      After a hard day's work he said 'come in first eat your fill of food then sing the praises of your lord Ram Allah Rabb whatever you call him.
      So whenever you see a gurudwaara enter without fear and eat your fill and allow those who have done Sewa to feel grateful that we have had a chance of serving mankind without any thought of caste, Creed, religion, race, religion, financial status ever.
      A langar seva has NEVER been closed in the last 400 years.come war pestilence h... or high water. It is 24/7 in the famous gurdwaras like the Golden Temple in Amritsar as it is here in SouthHall.
      If you happen to find yourself stranded in a strange land or city ask the nearest Sikh to take you to the Gurdwara where you are going to get food and shelter. Just don't bring alcohol drugs weapons or tobacco inside the premises. These are taboo in Sikhism.
      It is not matter if you go there everyday to eat as long as you are doing some sort of work with your hands, honestly and honourably during the day as long as you are not a useless Layabout and parasite.
      Sikhism does not encourage people to be beggars living on other people's charity unless of course you have been brought up in that particular lifestyle of' Can anybody feed me ? The world owes me a living but I am not going to go out hunting for it.'
      Sikhs have never begged and never will beg for charity or donations as long as they can earn with their own two hands and give 10% of the hard earn money in this langar and thus consider themselves blessed. Whenever there is a catastrophie anywhere they are not going to begin asking for donations like government Agencies and celebrities do. They just act... they don't look for opportunities to take advantage of trouble in order to fill their own pockets.
      It is well known that during the Korean War, radio programmes kept requesting the people of America to donate generously and send 10 dollars to make up food packets for the poor Starving victims of War in Korea.
      The generous people sent the money to this agency named CARE of which nobody knew anything it was a Post Box number.
      3 years into the war when the food packets had to be sent and people began asking the status of where the food had been distributed an announcer said on the radio 'all the food packets that have been sent to Korea have been captured by the enemy Army. But there are millions of hungry people in Europe who need your food packets so please send your 10 dollars to us to feed the poor hungry people in Europe!'
      This is how modern greedy money hungry begging Institutions work all over the world dishonestly taking advantage of the generosity of all the kind people out there.
      Sikhs will never do this sort of requesting for charity organisations to feed someone else hundreds of miles away when there are hungry people right at one's door.
      They won't say anything to you because they are a gentle people. They are not here to preach and tell you to mend your ways or whatever. But if you yourself don't feel ashamed into leading a more constructive useful responsible and productive life it means that you are always going to remain an immature selfish personal burden on society wherever you are irrespective of your religion, caste, Creed, region or race and will never be respected ever , anywhere you go.

      Sikhs r so generous race ..So true. They really r big hearted peoples..even if you go to theirs houses they treat you so well ..Without any expectations..other races should learn this kinda gesture from them.😊 I'm in Singapore for 11 years..But I don't know why here there is no temple or any gurudwara which serve free food to ppl.. . never saw any temple /gurudwara serving free food here ..I guess london is cheaper then Singapore 😊

      @@rmpatpath3916 I guess you never got a chance to ask any SIKH in Singapore the way to the nearest gurudwara!!! And like many people do not know, you never did a Google search of nearest Gurudwara near me when you were tired, hungry, wanted a place of rest, in a strange city. Gurudwara Means Door to the master. The Golden Temple doors has never been closed for the last 400 years, and neither has the langar sewa- meal service- been interrupted even through political turmoil or natural calamities.
      That is the problem, in many cases, people do not know, that in any city, town, country, place where there are more than 10 families of Sikhs, earning their hard-earned money, they are going to make a gurudwara first, before they build their own houses! That is their top priority.
      After that, they are going to start up the langar Sewa. People of other religions, races, nationalities, ethnicities,castes, creed, all over the world do not know about this.
      Every gurudwara IS going to have a free meal langar Sewa.
      That is compulsory, that is a part of making a gurudwara. You may also get free medical treatment here, clothing, shelter, as long as you do not bring drugs, alcohol, weapons into this holy place.
      Basic tenets of Sikhism is earn an honest day's money and then give 10 percent of it to the nearest Gurudwara. A Sikh does it. He will not ask you to do it. For him, that will be charity , or begging.
      The problem is that in English, a Gurudwara is called a Temple. Hindus have temples. The same way as you are not going to call a Jewish synagogue a church, the right word for a Sikh place of worship is "Gurudwara." Internet has not learned this term yet. Sikhism is not Hinduism. Nor is it Islam.
      There are many very well-known Gurudwaras in Singapore.
      One is on Towner Road And another on Wilkinson Road. Another one is the Silat Road Gurudwara -Jalan Bukit Road. One is in Johor Bahru. One is in Yishun. Surprising that you managed to live in Singapore for 11 years, and None of your SIKH acquaintances or friends took you there for langar and considered himself blessed.
      God bless you.
