Growing up as an American kid, I downloaded and torrented every single gabber track I could find. Nobody else I knew was listening to gabber, all my friends were into house. The only thing I knew at the time was this music came from somewhere in Europe and was fucking awesome. I have had so many memorable nights thanks to these tracks. Very cool to see the story of the "godfather" behind it all.

Interesting doc, seeing where its come from but where its going and how the genre is evolving would also be a cool doc. Looking at the underground scene and how its grown into dq1/dominator etc. More people need to experience it 😁
Kind of proud (trots) that he got fixed up here in South Africa! I understand some of what he has to say without the subs because of Afrikaans (derived from Dutch). It's so beautiful that this music even found its way here... I mean... everywhere!
Much love and respect to the first gabbers! I came up in the Los Angeles Hardcore scene of the 90's and early 2000's, still love that sound, vibe and energy.

Ik mis het Nederland van toen. Ik ben een mocro en dat hoeft niks uit te maken..maar mensen vergeten hoe wij ook al die tijden hebben meegemaakt. Weet nog dat ik sommige liedjes tof vond en de kleding. Het had gewoon iets mysterieus..al was ik zelf geen gabber of zo..vond ik het wel vet dat het bestond. Alles wat autentiek is en puur is vet. Helaas is t snel overgenomen door de massa..en in de massastroom gaat al t ondergrondse dood. Nu heb je weinig echts meer..

Het ondergrondse was ten dode opgeschreven toen mensen dachten dat ze meer geld konden maken met commerciele (happy) hardcore (was ook zo natuurlijk). Dat werd weer opgepikt door mensen als gabber piet en opeens was het over door de toestroom van mensen die er echt helemaal niet van hielden. Die kwamen echt alleen maar om te ouwehoeren. In een paar jaar tijd ging het van de beste sfeer naar de slechtste sfeer, maar gelukkig heeft het die tijd wel overleefd en is de sfeer wel weer goed gekomen, het is alleen wel heel anders dan toen.

I'm not even dutch, but this makes me nostalgic for the old rave days here in the U.S. Similar shenanigans would take place. The Hardcore scene in NY was pretty tight in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s.
I grew up right next to the Number One club in northern Italy. Dutch people came down in busses sometimes when they organized big raves. Claudio Lancinhouse was our resident DJ with Jappo. The club was huge still haven’t found one as big and I’ve been traveling all over the world. This was in the mid to late 90s. Lenny Dee used to come DJ. He was one of our favorite.
Way back in 92 a friend took me, a hardcore metal\industrial fiend who 'hated' rave music, to Amsterdam, fed me the best pill of my life and changed my life forever! From that point on Amsterdam and Gabber have had a special place in my heart. Thanks Coops, you fucking legend, and thank you Multigroove\Hellraiser etc for all the good times. #htid
The segment starting at 10:23 is really well done. Very memorable. The Lenny Dee tune has the perfect vibes, the description of what it was like to be in this very unique and exalted position at that time is very simply but beautifully (even poetically) conveyed, and crowd footage selected really captures this slightly unhinged but momentous vibe, perfectly mirroring the song and the description being given. Great work. I will watch this segment in particular repeatedly.

been raving since the summer of 1999 in the midwest part of the usa. we had some insane parties and had all sorts of genreas. but i can still remeber the first time i herd that gabber kick hit my face. that happy moment when i relized being angy faced and throwing a fist to that beat was like finding your first girl that let you get in it.
I remember when it slowly moved over to Germany. I felt immediately in love. Now I'm 36 and settled over to Denmark and people looking at me like crazy when i turn the music up in my car. Its pretty unknown here 🤣

Dropbass here in Midwest introduced me to hardcore and jungle,(d n b) in early 90's. Not sure how it was done else where, but dropbass parties started the night with hardcore and jungle and moved into techno and trance and when the sun was about to rise, they gave us some good house. I was exposed to it all and was never a music snob probably because of it being presented that way. I'm all grown up with family and kids now and still love me sum dat electronic flavor of all genres. Thank you drop bass

Het gevoel dat je krijgt als je samen met alle mensen bent die hardcore lief hebben. Zo'n gevoel op een feest heb ik nooit eerder gehad. Saamhorigheid, liefde, gezellig met elkaar. Iedereen is welkom. Moeilijke tijden doorgaan en dan hardcore luisteren, dat snijdt door je ziel. Het heelt, het beukt. Het is niet uit te leggen. Ik vind het zo jammer dat ik alweer midden 30 ben. Ik wil de tijd als tiener nogmaals over doen, nogmaals het eerste feestje, de vrienden, de muziek, het gevoel. Zonder telefoon gewoon hard gaan, blij dat ik dit mocht mee maken. Onbeschrijfelijk!
Yep. Van kleine gymzalen of een soos (Zuidland bv) met elke maand een gabberfeest, kan mij nu niet voorstellen wat die mensen in dat dorp ervan vonden, iedere maand weer lui uit Hellevoetsluis, waar ik woon, Brielle, Rozenburg en Spijkenisse.Allemaal opgeschoren of kaal, grote pupillen of een bommetje pep in hun cola en dan stonden daar ook nog echt die grote namen die ze later zouden worden. Vorig jaar heb ik een lijst gemaakt van wat nostalgie en nummers die ik mij kon herinneren (echt veel titels omdat je vroeger die boekjes in een cd tig keer doornam, merch etc maar de tracklijst. En via die weer suggesties van nummers waar je de titel niet meer van wist. Ik post hem hieronder wel. Zo niet, dan staat hij in mijn publieke playlist, 250+ nummers maar UA-cam heeft cap

This is brilliant! Growing up downunder my first hardcore / grabber Tape was Paul Elstak Midtown records and Scott Brown back in 1995. Ever since I’ve loved the way Hardware, Gabber, Hardstyles has evolved. Thanks to the Dutch ID&T productions on taking this beautiful electronic music to next heights! Hardcore will never Die!

This is absolutely brilliant, never realised there was such as huge hardcore scene that early in the Netherlands. Makes me wish I could have gone (would've had to be born about 30 years earlier but still)
Hardcore/gabber is born in the Netherlands and from here it quickly spread around the world. It's literally the only music style invented in the Netherlands 😉 I was 15 in '91 and so I was there when it started. Costed me some braincells, but it was the best time to be a teen in the Netherlands.
natuurlijk altijd leuk dat alles naar de hoofdstad wordt gepraat, maar volgens mij was parkzicht al berucht met hun nieuwe sound in 88, schuimpartys en zwembaden, elke vrijdag propvol, zaterdag was het voor het normale publiek uit heel nederland dan.. de eerste gabber was dus nog zonder hardcore, wel kaal, wel een aussie en nike air max met levis spijkerbroek... pas in 91/92 kwam de eerste hardcore.
Ground zero was 1 van mijn dikste feesten, ik mis het en ik mag in myn handen klappen dat ik deze mooie tijd nog mee heb mogen maken... De jeugd na myn generatie ik (28) zullen een heeeeeel hooooop missen en ik vind het heel erg van al die vuile zakkenvullers ik hoop dat het stopt!!!!! Bedankt mensen en ik hoop dat er weer een tijd komt dat er zulke heerlijke momenten komen
was 89 al 90 multigroove was echt super gevoel house hardcore underground. in die tijd hadden niks in brabant eindhoven daarom was altijd in amsterdan..roterdam en helaas gestopt in 2010 maar 100% gabbers bedankt gabbers vrienden in nederland leren kennen. gr ian
Te gek! Als Rotterdammert denk ik nog vaak aan Parkzicht. Stiefbroer had in coffeeshop ín de zaak, mooie meiden die dansten in kooien, 8 uur ‘s ochtends sluit (we gingen altijd dansen na het werk in Plan C, 1990/1991). Dat gun je toch iedereen die jong (van geest) is.

Wij gingen met een hele grote groep uit Waalwijk en omstreken wekelijks óf naar Parkzicht óf naar Multigroove. Ik ben minimaal 20 keer in de Multi geweest aan de Elementenstraat. Waanzinnige feesten waren dat, niet meer normaal. In die tijd had je ook de Luna feesten en The Beat Club. Heb nog een schoendoos ramvol met flyers uit die tijd. Helaas maar een paar foto's.
Ik ben zelf van '75. Geboren op de, Zeeburgerdijk 86 A'dam Oost. Was toen zelf een broekie, toen het gehele pand - een oude verlaten school - die was gekraakt door onze familie in de jaren '70 of eerder daarvoor. Toen er een laatste feest werd gegeven door, Multigroove als eerbetoon aan de Sloop die er zou volgen niet lang erna. Was toen zelf 9, 10 of 11 jaar jong, kan me het geen eens meer herinneren. Maar wat me nog wel bijstaat was dat ik achter bij de Kassa was met twee lkkr vrouwen. Kennissen van mn moeder en Tony - de eigenaar van de Golden Stamp - Coffeeshop in de Pijp en op mij afkwam lopen en mij een doorgeladen Uzi in mn hand drukten en tegen mij zei - If shit goes down, shoot em! Zal ik nooit vergeten dat moment. Tony de gekke Israëliër. Het mooie was was dat het feest te gek bleek te zijn voor een jong gabbertje mij op die leeftijd. Was gelijk Hooked for LIFE!
I almost cried towards the end...I love that I’ve found this style and I love that I can imagine myself at a festival like this in some years. Too bad America sucks and everything is trap, dubstep, and bass. Wasteland by insomniac was the closest I got!! But awaiting Sefa and Dr. Peacock in Los Angeles in march!!! n.n hardcore forever

Als je achterin de tunnel stond ging je aansteker uit door het zuurstofgebrek.

I miss outlaws and the Hook, but from what I hear that's when things started to go downhill. Drum and bass is still thriving in Brooklyn though.

Makes me nostalgic for the early 00s, in Austria Gabber was pretty big for some time.
been raving since the summer of 1999 in the midwest part of the usa. we had some insane parties and had all sorts of genreas. but i can still remeber the first time i herd that gabber kick hit my face. that happy moment when i relized being angy faced and throwing a fist to that beat was like finding your first girl that let you get in it.
I remember when it slowly moved over to Germany. I felt immediately in love. Now I'm 36 and settled over to Denmark and people looking at me like crazy when i turn the music up in my car. Its pretty unknown here 🤣
😂 That's nice to hear. Let the sound REVIVE in Scandinavia. Gabber has also reached Moscow, if you didn't knew that. The old sound should convert the world in 1 rave party😁🌎

Dropbass here in Midwest introduced me to hardcore and jungle,(d n b) in early 90's. Not sure how it was done else where, but dropbass parties started the night with hardcore and jungle and moved into techno and trance and when the sun was about to rise, they gave us some good house. I was exposed to it all and was never a music snob probably because of it being presented that way. I'm all grown up with family and kids now and still love me sum dat electronic flavor of all genres. Thank you drop bass

Het gevoel dat je krijgt als je samen met alle mensen bent die hardcore lief hebben. Zo'n gevoel op een feest heb ik nooit eerder gehad. Saamhorigheid, liefde, gezellig met elkaar. Iedereen is welkom. Moeilijke tijden doorgaan en dan hardcore luisteren, dat snijdt door je ziel. Het heelt, het beukt. Het is niet uit te leggen. Ik vind het zo jammer dat ik alweer midden 30 ben. Ik wil de tijd als tiener nogmaals over doen, nogmaals het eerste feestje, de vrienden, de muziek, het gevoel. Zonder telefoon gewoon hard gaan, blij dat ik dit mocht mee maken. Onbeschrijfelijk!
Yep. Van kleine gymzalen of een soos (Zuidland bv) met elke maand een gabberfeest, kan mij nu niet voorstellen wat die mensen in dat dorp ervan vonden, iedere maand weer lui uit Hellevoetsluis, waar ik woon, Brielle, Rozenburg en Spijkenisse.Allemaal opgeschoren of kaal, grote pupillen of een bommetje pep in hun cola en dan stonden daar ook nog echt die grote namen die ze later zouden worden. Vorig jaar heb ik een lijst gemaakt van wat nostalgie en nummers die ik mij kon herinneren (echt veel titels omdat je vroeger die boekjes in een cd tig keer doornam, merch etc maar de tracklijst. En via die weer suggesties van nummers waar je de titel niet meer van wist. Ik post hem hieronder wel. Zo niet, dan staat hij in mijn publieke playlist, 250+ nummers maar UA-cam heeft cap

This is absolutely brilliant, never realised there was such as huge hardcore scene that early in the Netherlands. Makes me wish I could have gone (would've had to be born about 30 years earlier but still)
Hardcore/gabber is born in the Netherlands and from here it quickly spread around the world. It's literally the only music style invented in the Netherlands 😉 I was 15 in '91 and so I was there when it started. Costed me some braincells, but it was the best time to be a teen in the Netherlands.

natuurlijk altijd leuk dat alles naar de hoofdstad wordt gepraat, maar volgens mij was parkzicht al berucht met hun nieuwe sound in 88, schuimpartys en zwembaden, elke vrijdag propvol, zaterdag was het voor het normale publiek uit heel nederland dan.. de eerste gabber was dus nog zonder hardcore, wel kaal, wel een aussie en nike air max met levis spijkerbroek... pas in 91/92 kwam de eerste hardcore.

Ground zero was 1 van mijn dikste feesten, ik mis het en ik mag in myn handen klappen dat ik deze mooie tijd nog mee heb mogen maken... De jeugd na myn generatie ik (28) zullen een heeeeeel hooooop missen en ik vind het heel erg van al die vuile zakkenvullers ik hoop dat het stopt!!!!! Bedankt mensen en ik hoop dat er weer een tijd komt dat er zulke heerlijke momenten komen

Te gek! Als Rotterdammert denk ik nog vaak aan Parkzicht. Stiefbroer had in coffeeshop ín de zaak, mooie meiden die dansten in kooien, 8 uur ‘s ochtends sluit (we gingen altijd dansen na het werk in Plan C, 1990/1991). Dat gun je toch iedereen die jong (van geest) is.
Als je beperkt word in je mogenlijkheden om te produceren word je creatief. En dat bestaat niet meer door software.
BUT they still produce this sound..
Wij gebruikte ook de Atari ST met Cubase (software) in de Multigroove, iedereen in die tijd, of Amiga. Maar je hebt wel een punt.

Wij gingen met een hele grote groep uit Waalwijk en omstreken wekelijks óf naar Parkzicht óf naar Multigroove. Ik ben minimaal 20 keer in de Multi geweest aan de Elementenstraat. Waanzinnige feesten waren dat, niet meer normaal. In die tijd had je ook de Luna feesten en The Beat Club. Heb nog een schoendoos ramvol met flyers uit die tijd. Helaas maar een paar foto's.
Zo jammer dat ik toen nog niet geboren was :'( die muziek van vroeger was toch wel dé beste van wat er nu gespeeld wordt op vlak van Hardcore :(

Vind de oude gabber house leuker dan de moderne versie.
Ik ben zelf van '75. Geboren op de, Zeeburgerdijk 86 A'dam Oost. Was toen zelf een broekie, toen het gehele pand - een oude verlaten school - die was gekraakt door onze familie in de jaren '70 of eerder daarvoor. Toen er een laatste feest werd gegeven door, Multigroove als eerbetoon aan de Sloop die er zou volgen niet lang erna. Was toen zelf 9, 10 of 11 jaar jong, kan me het geen eens meer herinneren. Maar wat me nog wel bijstaat was dat ik achter bij de Kassa was met twee lkkr vrouwen. Kennissen van mn moeder en Tony - de eigenaar van de Golden Stamp - Coffeeshop in de Pijp en op mij afkwam lopen en mij een doorgeladen Uzi in mn hand drukten en tegen mij zei - If shit goes down, shoot em! Zal ik nooit vergeten dat moment. Tony de gekke Israëliër.
Het mooie was was dat het feest te gek bleek te zijn voor een jong gabbertje mij op die leeftijd.
Was gelijk Hooked for LIFE!
