If you see a veteran the best way to honor us is to go to a gravesite of a fallen veteran. Make sure it’s clean, maybe some fresh flowers or clean American flag. That’s how you can honor us for the ones who gave their life. Those are the heroes not us who survived…..✌🏽☮️🤲🙏🇺🇸

I am from Texas and of Mexican descent. I was also a military buff as a child and remember how they denied his metal of honor. Most Mexican-Americans thought it was because he was Mexican. That was just the environment in Texas back then.

You are right, …”…there ought to be a movie…”, but there is no movie. There’s a bunch of Vietnam war flicks that have been made, but none that depict true-life events such as this hero’s story. There will be one made I predict, but as yet I don’t believe SFC Benavidez has yet been so honored. I’d sure as hell go see it, and I’ll go ahead and recommend it now! We just have to wait until it takes the big screen, and there’s no date yet in mind. God bless SFC Benavides, and Father have mercy on his and his peers souls, and reward them with a seat in your presence. My mom and dad both served during WW2, dad was an infantry soldier, mom was an E-6 US Marine…her job was to equip and send Marines to go to the South Pacific, to confront evil, and kill it!
She was a success as were the Marines sent to accomplish the monstrous task of defeating the Japanese. My father’s unit was also successful in running the Japanese out of the No. Pacific-Alaska and back to Midway where we were able to establish maritime superiority, and then ultimately we bombed them into submission…I lost a cousin in the final days of the war when the aircraft he was flying was shot down in the Philippine AO. He was seen bailing out and landing in the jungle-never to be seen or heard from again. God rest your soul Lt. Don Bean, and thank you!

There should be more written about Roy Benavides. Wow! First, he's told that he can't walk. Then, he receives 37 bullet and bayonet wounds. This is a remarkable story!

Rambo's a wimp compared to Roy Benavidez! Another hero who's story you should watch is Audie Murphy, the most decorated member of the American military in history (he won the Medal of Honor at 19 in WWII) and later became an actor. Murphy even portrayed himself in the movie "To Hell and Back" about his service during the war.

Because he was in an unpopular war and focused more on pro US & military speaking engagements no one wanted his story. Just about every movie from the Vietnam war focuses on the negative aspects of military service in those times. He has some speeches on-line you can watch that are inspirational no matter how you feel about the military.

One of the reasons America survives as a nation are men like this. I'd rather see elected politicians put in the combat front line units and if they survive combat for a year they are allowed to run for office.
It would be a splendid way to keep liars and clowns out of elected office. Afterall, how can one trust politicians in high office who haven't proved bravery and loyalty by defending the country personally over an extended time in combat.

There is one more thing you might not tealize. In the current war of Ukraine versus Russia the very brave soldiers of the Ukraine Army are of course using advanced weapons from multiple counties. But who is it training them to use those weapons? Its the soldiers of those counties from where the weapons are coming from. They are risking their lives to do so. While its Ukrainian troops using these allied systems they are benefitting daily from embedded foriegn NATO troops from many nations.
This is the reason Putins Army has basically self destructed and been roughly nuetralized. I am sure some of Brittain's best soldiers are in Ukraine helping fight Russian aggression but naturally its not going to be common knowledge. Think of your unknown British soldiers in war now.
