      Have you tried turning the gain knob down on the yeti mic?

    please do a comparison between the new shure MV7 and the rode NTG. Both have usb capability just 2 different kind of mics. The MV7 being a dynamic mic and the Rode NTG being a shotgun (condenser mic). Great review btw..!

    Thank you. This is literally the exact video I was looking for. I am recording both podcast spoken work and music vocals and I also started with the Blue Yeti, then graduated to the NTG, and now an considering the SM7B for a increase in quality.

    I've been using Blue yeti for 2+ years now for streaming and basic says if it's too loud you need to turn down the gain from mic knob itself. I've been literally as close as kissing it while talking screaming while playing and it never clipped ! It performs much much better than what you had shown in this video. Peace :)

    I have the blue yeti. Used it for years. Thought I now use the Earthworks Ethos, I came to really appreciate that mic. I did not have a problem with clipping and I used no software. I simply adjusted the gain knob on the mic. I mean no offense, but it does seem that when many "test" the Yeti, it does not at all resemble the performance I got out of it. I continuously received compliments on the quality of my sound during the stay at home times. Up close with a foam screen and the gain knob turned down.

    If I could afford the Shure it would definitely be the shure SM7B. I like the low background noise with little or no reverb. Its seems like its more forgiving with speech and pops. I'm looking for a mic to record my voice for the production of guided meditation recordings. I've been using a H4N and actually managed to get some really good recordings with it. However, it picked up the fan in my laptop and created a fair bit of editing post recording. Thank you for sharing!

    Thanks Lane, great review, superb quality! Kind of surprised (disappointingly with the youtube algo) how come you have so few subs.. :|
    btw, I have a question, I kind of like the fuller sound of the condenser mic, though I m considering dynamic mics coz of my noisy environment, (kids and some neighboring noise as I live in a flat).
    Do you think a shotgun mic will isolate the sound enough and give me the best of both worlds? as it will also help me keep the mic out of the shot...
    Let me know if you have any opinion on this :)
    thanks again!!

    • @LaneSebringlive
      @LaneSebringlive  3 роки тому +1

      If you have a lot of noise in the background, it's really tough to isolate it with the shotgun mics (i have found). I use both for different reasons, but when I need it to be clear of any background noise, I use the SM7B. Thanks for watching and for your kind words about my channel!

    i think on the blue yeti turn the gain down on the nob all the way down then speak into it which would sound a little bit better if you want to speak closer to it

    I am noway near any closer to figuring out what microphone to get. I have the Blue Yeti, I do narrations on my channel. I run a scary channel so ambience is extremely important. I do not like my S's and I do not like the static crackling. It's very minor but it stands out to me.
    I will just straight up ask anyone what mic should I get. Before someone asks my gain is as low as it can go.

    Would love your advice. I have a rode NTG2 right now. I bought it as a cost saving way to have something for my voiceover work but also something I could use for interviews and other general film production. Now, I'm looking just to record voiceovers and my wife singing. I feel like my NTG2 is not great for this. Do you think I'd notice a big difference going up to the shure SM7B? I would only have it in my little homemade studio recording space.

    Before watching this video my take on it is if you want the most Clarity the Shure sm7b is what people like Joe Rogan Joey Diaz they use on their podcast if you do not have a treated room I would not recommend a Blue Yeti cuz it picks up a lot of background noise and one thing a lot of people do not talk about is with a Blue Yeti. You will need a pop filter because it picks up a lot of close-ups. And a lot of room noise

    Rode NTG clearly sounds best without 'native 20' otherwise the mic is just too quiet. Shame you didn't test the mic further away from your mouth to see what it sounds like. Other settings are pretty much useless because I could barely hear you!
