@6:20 flip option should be selected. Also dancing around before selecting something makes it difficult to see what point you finally select, and im watching this at almost half speed. Would also suggest getting something that shows left or right click or keystrokes for instructional purposes.
@@ProductDesignOnline Definitely, please use something that highlights clicks (like the Mouse Textmarker from PowerToys on Windows) - and/or make your mouse pointer a bright color and bigger. I have to rewind the video sooo often just to see what exactly you do with the mouse. (Or is the need for frequent rewind a ploy to boost your video's score on UA-cam? 😉 )
Your suggestion to hold Control/Cmd while hovering over a face was perfect. I recreated this box just to play with the tool. I wanted to the top to overlap the bottom. So I hovered over the face on the top of the Box Bottom, held Cmd, selected the center point. And walah! I got them to join perfectly! (I selected the center of the top's inside) Thank you!
The best tutorials anyone can find for fusion 360. This is gold. I went from zero to i can fix anything that is broken with 3d printing and we are only on 19
You have been more helpful to me than I could ever possibly explain. I started from absolute scratch, knowing nothing about 3D design, to being more confident to start reverse engineering products for my company. Thank you a ton, can't wait for the rest of the series to be ready. :)
Perfect series of videos ! I built some boxes with the previous edition, and was looking to build my own styled hinges. This update is great, and I'll try to adapt it so I can enter as a parameter the size of the object I want to put inside the box, or even try to make a custom sketch in part 1 and then build a box around it. Can't wait for day 20 to be released !
Thanks for another great day. I struggled with the the join feature until I realized the edge face had to be activated as I placed it! Time to do them all over again while I wait for day 20!
Another great instructional video Kevin 👍 Thank you so much for taking the time to put these together. Also, your explanations are very clear, and detailed. Regards Robert
Thank you very much for this series. It is really easy to follow and it is as stated step by step so I havent felt lost on any of the sessions! Keep up the good work!
For me when I do this the box just 'slides' so its south east corner touches the north west corner of the top, and the rotation option is rotating around the edge going up in Z, so the best I can get is two boxes next to each other. This actually makes sense (That corner of the top is moving to the opposite corner) but I don't know why it won't flip or how I can get it to.
Oh no! The next day is not ready yet. I love this series. It's so thorough and clear. I've gone from utter beginner to pretty knowledgeable. Thank you!
If you’re having trouble, make sure that your joint origins both highlight the topmost plane. If you’re still having issues, try flipping the sketches that you making visible and invisible.
Didn't help. Wish he had spent some time himself showing how to do this. *edit* : after a ton of tries I got it. I think he should have reviewed how the mirroring of the hinging works more and demonstrated different permutations. For 10 minute videos he puts out every few months they sure aren't very involved.
@productdesignonline I thought in the last video, you said it was better to use constraints than to define dimensions multiple times. So @2:07 where you typed =BoxWidth a second time, would it have been better to set constrain that as equal to the other side that was already defined as BoxWidth?
Great question! Because user parameters were used here, that is similar to using a constraint in fact that you will not have to update them manually. The idea (which I could've discussed more) is that if you need a box that is not square you can alter the one user parameter (boxWidth *2, for example). Otherwise, you are correct that you want to use a constraint instead over manually applying extra dimensions 😎
Yeah finally. Keep trying. Make sure you hide the correct half. Click very outside corner. The hide. Make other visible and click the opposite corner. I kept doing it and it worked.
I'm curious, how did you figure out creating user parameters on the fly, thickness=2? I knew it had to be possible but don't know where to look. Thanks Kevin for this and 'paste new', very helpful.
I'm not sure if you've mentioned it yet (or I just don't remember), but why is there like an anchor symbol on my component? When I right click it , it says "unground from parent".
The anchor represents a new "ground to parent" feature that was recently released in Fusion. You can ignore it for most all of the lessons in this course. For this lesson or any where Joints are applied, you can right click on the component and select "unground from parent" and proceed per the tutorial.
Thanks for asking this question. I’ve learned enough that a cup of coffee is an easy thing to do. No need to wait for the rest of the lessons to arrive (though I will be eagerly awaiting them.)
The join didn’t align for me the way it does in the video. The top didn’t flip over and the join left a sort rhombus figure 8 with both halves open side facing up. Not sure what’s wrong. Went back over and over repeating the steps in the video.
So even by "pasting new" the original parameters applied to the size carry through? That is counter intuitive, seems like "new" would break any bond to the original.
Extremely loved this series, Thanks alot for posting such an amazing video it really helped me in building my college project. can u please tell me when the next video will be released? 🥲🥲

See scottyknows1566 comment. He notes that the "flip" option must be selected. It's at the bottom of the JOINT command window on the position tab.
@@janodi1155 That was the trick. I don't know how I missed that. Thanks! And thanks @scottyknows1566
this is a really interesting concept, it's like naming variables in coding. Is it generally used as much I wonder?
As mentioned, if you fail to rotate the box successfully at 6:14, please click "flip" in the joint property.

When using 'paste new' is it correct that the new component won't change when the user parameters change?
correct!

You just type in (the non existing) name and when you add the = sign Fusion knows it is a new parameter that needs to be created. Great feature.
