Thank you so much for going slow enough to be able to follow from the start. So many videos move so quickly that you don't know where the curser was/went that created even the first step, much less the rest, so the viewer is immediately lost.
This was super helpful. I'm obviously on a newer version of F360 so it was a bit of a pain to figure out how to do exactly what you were doing when they've changed some of the interface, but once I figured those out, this was a great first step. Literally, my first time opening F360, too. I'll be using this for the same thing Woodworking/Cabinet stuff. Would love to see more F360 videos from you. Thank you for this!
Great introductory video. I got into Fusion for doing cnc milling but as a life long woodworker it became invaluable for all of the reasons you mention. If I may comment, you probably know that best practice is to use fewer dimensions and more constraints, for example, the lengths of the top and bottom didn't need dimensions, just a colinear constraint which Fusion does automatically. Pretty sure you are also aware that making components rather than bodies offers up more flexibility for moves, copies, assemblies, etc. Love seeing more woodworkers using Fusion, thanks for posting.
I had no idea about parameters. Man I wish I saw this before I modelled up a work bench in sketchup and then needed to change the thickness of every single piece of material! Great video
absolute newbie at drafting after about 10 years of carpentry/fabrication, this was incredibly helpful as I need to finally get my head wrapped around designing and drafting for myself and you provided a great primer.
Thanks, this is great! Just found the free version of Fusion 360 the other day but haven’t used it yet. Have used Sketchup some but at first glance this seems like it may be easier, especially with the ability to change the parameters so easy. Will have to checkout your other videos.
Awesome video. Could you explain a bit more how the parameters for the drawers (faces and boxes) change and stay properly in the design? Or point to a video explaining this? Thanks
Can you at least share the parameter equations? I could make out part of the drawer face parameter just not sure how you are duplicating the repeating drawers and faces. Thanks!
This is extremely helpful I go through all the pain of creating part by part and then an assembly. I normally use Creo and SolidWorks. I have had a 360 free license for a few years but never really used it till now.
To see exactly how you've managed to parametrically add in drawers would be so helpful for where I am at with my studying for fusion 360, there just isn't enough information on these kind of things, this video is one of the best on UA-cam, would Love to see more content 😊 @Casual Builds
I've been looking for a tutorial to design a 4 drawer cabinet I want to build. I've watched other tutorials that showed how to draw but this one was PERFECT for my needs. I really want to make a drawing like you created where everything is a parameter. Again, just PERFECT.
Hi Tim, great video. Wanted to ask if you can do another video explaining more in detail how you created the formulas for the expanding & contracting the number of drawers. I’m new to Fusion and am trying to model a similar cabinet of drawers. Just can’t get my head around how to make this using parameters! 😂. Thanks!!
Huge thumbs up. I'm using a different piece of software (Alibre) but I am going to look at what similar features I can use in it. Brilliant and thanks!
Also, it is not necessary to get in to parameters window for the first time. When you start sketching and write your dimensions make sure that you name them too. For instance you want 39" of width so type width=39. Next time when you sketch something and dimension need to be 39 again. just type your parameter name "With" . All of your naming you will find in parameters window later, when time comes for adjustments.
Constraints are your friend. Instead of doing the formula for the top and bottom you can constrain those prices the the inside of the sides, so things automatically adjust based on constraints. Also, extrude to object is very nice as well. Also, do components instead of bodies and you can copy components and create a nice cut list easily.
Great video Bro!!! Really been helpful in designing cabinets. Would you mind making a video on how to do the drawers? i would love to be able to use the parametric functionality to add and subtract drawers.
Its done by doing drawers in a pattern style and giving the dimensions with formulas instead of numbers (restrict to height and width of the available space inside the cabinet divided by the number of drawers).
Great tutorial. The best you can get on Fusion 360. How did you change the number of drawers using parameters? I can create one drawer but I am not sure how to change the number of drawers from 4 to 6 automatically
@jeffreyromero9169 Pretty simple actually! 1. Model the box he shows, how he shows it in the video. 2. Go into Parameters and add "Drawer Count" and set it to any number. Set the unit to NONE. 3. Make a Width_DrawerFace Parameter. Set it to total_width 4. Make a Height_DrawerFace Parameter. Set it to total_height / Drawer Count. ( I think you see where this is going.) Now you have a drawer face that will scale size as you update the drawer_count parameter. But how do we repeat it on the face of the box? RECTANGULAR PATTERN, BABY! 1. Extrude the face of the drawerface sketch away from the body by ply_thickness 2. Select the extruded face, and in the solids, select the Rectangular Pattern tool. 3. Select "axes" in the pattern tool window, and select the Z axis. 4. Set the quantity of the pattern (see where this is going?) to the Drawer_Count parameter. 5. Set the Distance to height_drawerfaces 6. Hit okay. That's it! Now that you know how you scale the drawer face, you can see how the rest of the back-end structure changes, based on how you make the object, etc. Basically it just hinges (heh) on the parameters you feed into Rectangular pattern. Be thoughtful about how you setup parameters, and you can create scalable projects pretty easily. Hope that helps!
great video, way to explain it in a understandable way! I can use this as a system for quick prototyping rather than going back in history and changing things all the time
Thanks so much for this video! I download and installed Fusion360 last night, but was struggling to even get started. It would be an understatement to say that your tips about setting and using parameters will be helpful.

I've read through the comments and there are several comments about this. And you would be even cooler if you just made an entire video of the detailed parameters you use! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!!
