The story about these '67 Matrix (San Francisco) recordings, as I recall, is that the club owner, Peter Abram, rolled tape during the Doors' two shows in March. Their first album & single, "Break On Through," released in Jan., had failed to chart & "Light My Fire" had not been released yet. They were relatively unknown & aside from a couple of TV tapings in NY, this may have been their first performance outside of So Cal. It sounds as if there are about a dozen people in the audience. Lousy bootleg albums from these tapes have been around for decades, however these recordings were released in Nov. 2008. They are said to be from the original tapes, although it has been rumored that these are second generation & that the real first gen. tapes are better. Regardless, I would think that with modern technology, the vitality of these performances, which I believe was there, could be restored. The Doors were still trying to prove themselves & I doubt that these performances were lazy. With the exception of Morrison, I think the rest of the band rarely, if ever, turned in a lazy performance. I'm still hoping for a better sounding release of these shows one day, but for now, this is still pretty great.

they were a better band by '68.... this is still ascension for them.
Yeah is this real? It sounds like someone playing over a quieter live recording of them. Love the rawness of the drums though!
:D
Leave it to Morrison man .
