I kept waiting to hear the stories about looting. I was hoping maybe the danger of the fires had been enough to scare even the looters out of the fire zone. As bad as these tragedies are, looters make it SO much worse than it needs to be. So many people are afraid to evacuate in a timely manner because they know doing so leaves their homes open to looters. Plus, emergency workers have to waste time arresting looters rather than focusing on putting out the fire even when they are stretched thin for workers. In addition, if the looters get in trouble with the fires, emergency workers may then have to risk their lives to save the lives of the looters. I wonder how many lives are lost directly or indirectly because of the looters. The fact that it results in so many more lives lost, I almost wonder if looting in these situations should be punished by the death penalty and if emergency workers should be told not to prioritize saving the lives of looters who deliberately stayed long past it was safe to stay in the area. I know that may sound harsh, but I suspect if these measures were passed it would deter a lot of looting in the first place. Obviously, if arrested it should be proven in a court of law that they were looting before they are executed. But families shouldn't have to choose between risking their lives and the lives of emergency workers to stay home and protect their possessions and choosing to do the right thing and evacuate immediately as soon as the danger is known.

I've heard from the fire-fighters themselves on 60 Minutes. They said that this fire was literally "unstoppable". No amount of man-power or equipment could fully stop it with the force of the winds. You basically have to consider building structures that can't burn, such as out of concrete or stone. And the insurance companies of course are not going to pay for everything. They would go bankrupt, so it would need to be funded elsewhere, but I don't have high hopes on that.

I kept waiting to hear the stories about looting. I was hoping maybe the danger of the fires had been enough to scare even the looters out of the fire zone. As bad as these tragedies are, looters make it SO much worse than it needs to be. So many people are afraid to evacuate in a timely manner because they know doing so leaves their homes open to looters. Plus, emergency workers have to waste time arresting looters rather than focusing on putting out the fire even when they are stretched thin for workers. In addition, if the looters get in trouble with the fires, emergency workers may then have to risk their lives to save the lives of the looters. I wonder how many lives are lost directly or indirectly because of the looters. The fact that it results in so many more lives lost, I almost wonder if looting in these situations should be punished by the death penalty and if emergency workers should be told not to prioritize saving the lives of looters who deliberately stayed long past it was safe to stay in the area. I know that may sound harsh, but I suspect if these measures were passed it would deter a lot of looting in the first place. Obviously, if arrested it should be proven in a court of law that they were looting before they are executed. But families shouldn't have to choose between risking their lives and the lives of emergency workers to stay home and protect their possessions and choosing to do the right thing and evacuate immediately as soon as the danger is known.

It is really sad to see them taking away money from the Fire department and then pushing that to others like policing. They placed more efforts into removing homeless people long term solutions. LA is notorious for its real estate prices and at the same time for the location known as Skid Row. I hope this crisis will help people reflect...

I've heard from the fire-fighters themselves on 60 Minutes. They said that this fire was literally "unstoppable". No amount of man-power or equipment could fully stop it with the force of the winds. You basically have to consider building structures that can't burn, such as out of concrete or stone. And the insurance companies of course are not going to pay for everything. They would go bankrupt, so it would need to be funded elsewhere, but I don't have high hopes on that.
How do you allow people to build houses in a forest that is prone to wildfires?😮
