- In this video I share ways in which to voice various types of minor chords. Ranging from a triad right up to a 13th chord. There are lots of examples including some from Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Sammy Nestico & Gil Evans.

As a very sharp listener pointed out, at 3.59 I have the wrong chord! It was meant to be a Cm7add6, but what is played is a Cm/maj7add6 😂
placing a ninth next to the minor third is one of life's great joys 🙏🤲❤
yeah!
Your "one of life's great joys" Cm9 chord is very Oliver Nelson, which makes a lot of sense. Trombones voiced above tenors is also "one of life's great joys". Very Don Sebesky.
Thanks Tom. I didn't know that about Don Sebesky.
@@gilevansinsideout It was a little tip I picked up in his book and started using that very day.
Thank you for the video, good lesson in voicing of instruments!
You are welcome
Nice summary of using minor chord voicings when arranging horns. Thank you, Alex. A famous jazz piece with horns with lots of minor chord voicings, including, I believe, the Cm9 voicing and the one based on forths you describe, is Oliver Nelson's Stolen moments from The blues and the abstract truth. This album I would take on a lonely island with me along with many Gil Evans recordings.
Yes its a great recording isn't it! Thank you
Wow those first two triads scream Freddie Freeloader to me--the tambre is so similar!
Yes they do!
Love it as always!
Thanks!
thank you for another great video, amazing content as usual.
it sounds like the audio example on 3:59 is playing a Cmmaj7add6 instead of a Cm7add6?
OMG! IT is! sorry, and good spotting!
The ninth on a m7b5 is used as much as the 11th.
Oh I actually disagree. But this isn't an exhaustive list. Please use the sounds you enjoy! :D
it most definitely isn’t
