  • During my visit to Kenji Komatsu @tracestudy, I had the privilege of seeing his remarkable Japanese tool collection. Kenji is not only an exceptionally talented artist and craftsman, but also a source of great inspiration to me. I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to have been welcomed into his beautiful space. Hope you enjoy

I'm a 5 generation carpenter in the UK people you work for just want it done as quick as possible all with electric tools . The old ways are dying out and will be lost for ever

What is surprising is how he remembers where all the chisels are…

You can tell the presence of a craftsman using extremely sharp tools by the presence of the Elastoplast round his finger

Okay, I am jealous! He has more tools than I do, and I am older than he is! Most of my early tool budget went into wood lathe tools though.....Cool!

Most of these tools look new or barely used; even though the man seems aware of their specific uses and their care, he looks more like a wealthy collector than a master cabinetmaker who usually cannot afford such an impressive array of tooling.

But don’t worry in the description that no one reads op tells you where it comes from, so that’s totally not theft right?

Amazing video. The axes though, there has to be a safer way, even for masters. In a lifetime, one mistep and you cut your quad tendon clean through or both your akles with an obssessively sharpened samurai quality blade.
