Kirby's Adventure - Final Bosses (King Dedede, Nightmare) and Credits

- This is a video of the final boss fights and credits in Kirby's Adventure. It is a very memorable part of the game, and the introduction to Nightmare is awesome.
I wouldn't have recorded this if I didn't feel a compelling need. After being somewhat put off by the quality of some of the other videos of this awesome moment in video gaming, I have recorded my own.
The problems with other videos include the following:
Annoying watermarks
Annoying introduction videos
Voices (LPs are fine, but I wanted to see a quiet playthrough)
Recording with a video camcorder, instead of a screen capturing utility
Poorly emulated audio.
Recording game audio with a microphone instead of direct capturing.
Dying on the boss.
That said, mine isn't perfect, I haven't played in years, so I got hit a few times. I also got a bit dash-happy and it kind of looked weird when switching cutscenes. And on the first phase of Nightmare, I almost die, and I pick up the warp star so fast that the pick up sound doesn't get to play. Also it seems UA-cam has reduced the framerate in spots, making some blinking and sprite cycling effects a little hard to see.
But despite these flaws, I think I did okay. I probably could have also had an ability for the first phase, but oh well.
Hopefully UA-cam doesn't cake this with ads later due to content ID tracking or something. - Ігри
okay but honestly the part where dedede tries to stop kirby and shakes his head is really interesting - that is real fear in that pixelated penguin's eyes, and you know you're about to find out very soon why he wanted to stop you so badly
What makes it more interesting is Kirby's irritated look at 2:28. Not sure if it was a graphic bug or not, but it makes the scene rather amusing.
My guess is that it was on purpose to make it look like Kirby was P.O.'d at dedede because he was being annoying.
SeiMadou Pupuru That face was also in the remake so it most likely isn't
WalrusEternal he was also protecting Dream Land from Nightmare
WalrusEternal i
Man, the Nightmare boss sequence blew my fucking mind as a kid playing Nightmare in Dream Land, and it still blows my mind how fantastic it looks still on NES.
The clash they do over the moon is just the icing on the cake too. That shit is epic.
can we please establish the fact that kirby flew to the moon to fight a shadow god.
Aka, the true OG final boss.
-and the trend began-
He's a space alien tho
So, a normal Tuesday?
A normal Tuesday for Kirby
Was Nightmare really a god though?
All these years and this game is still fucking beautiful.
The biggest plot twist in video game history.
And probably one of the first.
Not the first one, Samus' reveal as a woman predates this one.
I mean... it was heavily foreshadowed, unlike many other video game plot twists, so... I can say I agree...
Metal Gear Solid 1 had one of the best plot twists too
@@Byllant That is not a plot twist, Samus being a woman changes absolutely nothing in the story. And I'm aware this is a 4y old comment
This started a trend in Kirby final bosses.
PixelOldGamer - Gaming Retro what trend
Justin Lu Final bosses doings random teleports.
Ice Dragon Also great music and tough as nails bosses
also being rather terrifying in juxtaposition to the rest of the game most of the time
An trend of teleport Maniac, Bosses that will make you eat your own nails and rather terrifying appearances and backstories.
A fantastic game. One of the best games ever released on the NES. Sadly, the last games that were released were overshadowed by the technically superior SNES. They managed to push the NES to its limits and delivering just as good, if not better, games as those on the SNES.
luckily it sold well, despite being it the last game on the NES.
+Gera WallStar Wario's Woods was the last game on the NES (and before that Startropics 2) this came out a year before the NES died in 1994
+Vermilicious I loved this game! When I was a little kid, I lived off this, Simpsons Hit & Run, Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights, and Tak and the Power of JuJu
Vermilicious though i wonder why they didnt just make a game on the snes and made on on the nes
I mean why not make kirbys adventure 16 bit ?
This shit was on an NES... I'm not even joking this is some impressive stuff, it's even better than some of the game boy graphics.
That's because Gameboy was basically a portable NES. Advance was portable a SNES. DS was a portable 64. 3DS is a portable Gamecube. The Switch is kind of like a portable Wii/Wii U.
The Switch is graphically superior to the Wii U what are you talking about
@@NEUTR0NDANCE I said "kind of like a portable Wii U".
@@NEUTR0NDANCE he said "kind of" because Wii U wasn't a Portable, which is ironic considering how it looks like a portable tablet, but it still needed it's console in order to work.
@@tm9599 I'd argue the DS was a portable Gamecube since it had the Zelda sequels, Metroid Prime Hunters and Animal Crossing's sequel and more
Fun fact: There is a time limit on the orb boss. If you take too long to kill it you'll die.
Can confirm!
that annoys me i litterly came to this video because of thay
@@thefunniman.7470same
I can confirm. That happened to me once, by Contra syndrome
found that out the hard way
There is a lot i can observe from this fight alone. First off, this the 2nd Kirby game and already King Dedede is helping Kirby. Makes you wonder if DDD was real bad guy. Second this pretty much got the trope of Dark forces of evil bosses started in the Kirby series. It's amazing how much of an influence this game was for our modern day Kirby
Also started the trope of crazy plot-twist or major story revelations in the climaxes of Kirby games
this was also the first kirby game to include copy abilities, though you probably already knew that.
2:41 "I warned you about the star rod bro!!!! I told you dog!"
ahh it keeps happening
Kirbylicious definition makes Dedede loco. He wants to know the secrets that he can't see in my StarRod. I'm kirbylicious, so delicious...~
Me and my friend were so caught off gaurd on the final FINAL boss!!! The last fight had us in tears it was so intense
I’ll say this. They did a good job making Nightmare look like he did not belong in Kirby’s world, which was what they were going for. Everything in Kirby’s world looks cartoony and cute. Then you come to this guy who looks menacing.
The evolution of the final bosses in Kirby games screaming when they die, beginning with this one.
Nope, King Dedede in Dreamland (Game Boy)
No. This is just a fuckton of explosions
Jaden Coucopoulos
Nah, Nightmare screams and literally disintegrates into light. It’s more obvious on the GBA I guess lol
When kirby dies in the second boss it looks so dramatic
I remember the first time I got to Nightmare. Having just beat Dedede, I was like "woah this guy looks tough." epic final boss.
King Dedede is the best boss
@@nightmare_symphony no,is Mk
and that is how moon was made
I knew Stanley Kubrick was a liar!
Malique Regis that’s how Popstar’s moon was made
Malique Regis dude that is a lie, God is the only one who created the moon.

This was honestly a turning point for me as Kirby fan. You go about hearing the plot twist in this game, but it's nothing like experiencing it yourself.
2:14 Looks like Kirby learned a valuable lesson about jumping to conclusions.
One of my childhood favorites. I can remember beating this final boss under my covers one weekend night. Aaaah that satisfaction. Of course I grew up with the GBA port as i was barely alive when this was initially released. I've been trying to replay this as an adult and I'm nowhere near the platform wizard i once was.
Tell me about it, Jonah. I'm 27 now, and that final boss is kicking my butt.
0:04 King DeDeDe
2:55 Nightmare Power Orb
4:20 Nightmare
That dogfight with Nightmare remains the single most exhilarating thing a person can experience on an NES.
I feel the original is more expressive with King Dedede and Kirby's expressions than the remake is. Here. you see the absolute fear and terror in Dedede's eyes at the idea of what Kirby is about to do, as well as Kirby being rather pisssed Dedede is trying to stop him (whilst not knowing WHY).
It is astonishing how well this game holds up.
and this was on a nes...
GEEKING OUT GEEKING OUT GEEKING OUT GEEKING OUT GEEKING OUT
Can't get over that a thirty year old nes game can have a finale this epic, just played it for the first time and was taken aback
Just beat this game. It's genuinely impressive that they managed to pull this off on the NES.
2:25 THIS GUY'S SEEN SOME THINGS.
One of THE most epic finishes in any NES game, even though this came well into when the SNES was already active.
I knew it dedede is a good guy
Gray area. He stole all the food in the kingdom in the first game.
TheKoolman89 Dedede is out for his own good... most of the time. He's not a good guy but he isn't evil.
+Callumbuddy he's more like a rival
He was only really a villain in the first game. In pretty much every other main entry in the series, he's either an anti-hero, possessed, or misunderstood. In some games, he's more than one.
LucasCAPS is that really Bad considering kirby went on a genocide and right into his home because a cake?
Wow, this whole time I was trying to beat Nightmare's second phase with the Star Rod's projectiles. I didn't know you could hit him just by jumping into him. Also, the ball phase is SO DIFFICULT!!!
The graphics for this game, for an 8 Bit console, were amazing back then are tbh still are these days. There is so much going on, with all the dynamic elements. It looks beatiful and cute still.
@4:20 best boss intro ever to me still.
This masterpiece came out for NES. It still looks very beautiful. Played it plenty of times as a kid.
I still don't believe it that my 4 years old daughter played this game all the way untill this final boss. 🤯
I let her play on my Switch while I'm playing FIFA22 on my PC. She kept bugging me saying she couldn't pass this one and asked me for help. Then I googled myself Kirby final boss, and here I am.
9:40 That's impossible, throw doesn't exist on level 1. Oh, you, naughty programmers…
Old news I'm sure, but technically, you can get it if you mix enemies and get lucky when you stop it. Though I'm having trouble recalling a good spot in Vegetable Valley to do that...
Orfloper Oh, yeah… There is that loophole, maybe. According to www.gamefaqs.com/nes/563432-kirbys-adventure/faqs/10645, these are the mixes that give throw:
Ball + Beam = Throw
Beam + Beam = Throw
Beam + Light = Throw
Beam + Parasol = Throw
Beam + Sleep = Throw
Beam + Sword = Sleep/Throw
Beam + Tornado = Throw
I remember there are a lot of enemies with Beam in Vegetable Valley. The remaining question is if they can be found close to those others.
LucasCAPS Or you can just go to the other levels, get throw, leave and fight Wispy Woods.
Royal Fenikkusu If one could refight beaten bosses, I wouldn't have commented anything, because the scene would be trivial to explain.
LucasCAPS
Turns out the very first two enemies with powers are beam, and they're pretty easy to catch both at once in the first stage; just went back and got throw, beat the boss with it. So that's a thing now I guess.
If the ball part looks easy to ANYONE, then that person has not actually tried the game (or at least gotten this far)
Also, is it weird that i beat this before Kirby's Dream Land? (Which i beat today)
I died twice on the ball part. Can I be proud? :D
YES.
MegaJacob Productions Yeah. B)
Geometry Dash Nex I played this game with my sisters when I was about 8 years old, I'm pretty sure this was the hardest boss of all games in my childhood and it took us so many attempts to beat him. We even thought the fight was over after stage 1, DeDe was already pretty exhausting, but then you also have to last two more fights. People who didn't fight this boss don't know that you're time to beat the ball is limited
voodootime I've beaten the game two other times recently, 2nd time it took me 1 attempt to kill the ball, and 3rd time it took me around 5
I'm amazed how well they remade this moveset in SKC.
This is on an NES. THIS IS ON AN NES. This game is so magical for an NES game, it even gets around limitations! Simply one of the best NES and Kirby games!
When i was a little boy i was so impressed when kirby flys to nightmare on this star, and when the music starts at 4:20, i had to turn up the volume, that was so cool :) hope you understand my bad english :/
Your English is okay, but you spelled flies wrong
Ragnar Ahlman what do you mean okay his English is better than half the people on this website.
Hell naw I don't understand
Yeah my mom got mad when I maxed the volume too! And your English is just fine.
The scene where dedede tries to stop you from awakening nightmare is fucking genius. Honestly, it's one of the reasons i prefer the original over the GBA remake.
I really love the moment before the second phase of the Nightmare battle and how the music mixes into that.
I legitimately thought that nightmare wizard looked like count chocula
Yeah your not wrong lol
THIS GAME IS SO NOSTALGIC 😭 it’s still one of my favorite Kirby games ever …the music, the art, it’s v pretty
My thoughts exactly! This was my very first Kirby game and even now it still has such an impact. I find myself cheering or even tearing up sometimes anytime the newer titles reference songs and things from it.
This game still looks beautiful and sounds awesome today
I actually found it easier to survive Dedede when I didn't inflate to fly; I'd just jump over him and slide underneath him when he's in the air.
Hal has always had a way with Final Bosses.
IT'S YOUR BROTHER WALUIGI!!!!!!!
WARIO!!!!
Sonikku Ishime Wow. Wario has been hitting that Thighmaster.
Nightmare honestly looks like an amalgation of Wario and Waluigi. Guess that's why he's called nightmare.
The song where the first nightmare fight happens is the first exposure many of us had to drum and bass!
I remember seeing someone in the comments say that as a kid they thought nightmare was some sort of alternate Kirby based on the death animation. With all the new lore revelations that is becoming scarily plausible
I think you did fine overall, all things considered. Phase 1 of Nightmare is really tricky and Phase 2 is, as well, although it gets a lot easier when you know the pattern. 6 hits and boom, done. Dedede Battle was also awesome, glad to finally see a good run through of this, particularly with the music.
This boss was so much fun! I remember playing Kirby's adventure blind for the fist time and being like: THIS IS THE BEST BOSS FIGHT EVER-
Who else thinks the battle arena looks a lot like Marx's battle arena?
The Raven Conspiracy You battle Marx on the Moon too.
Yes, just like the dimension of Marx soul looks like the dark star setting in Kirby 64
I love this game. I was listening to Rage Valley by Knife Party and got a weird vibe it was inspired by the nightmare boss fight.
This game was the peak of the NES. It's genuinely incredible just how much they were able to do with like 16 kilobytes.
Thanks for this video, it's exactly what I needed to show someone!
2:25 "nah man, dont do it!"
This is my favorite boss fight, so epic all the phases it goes through!
This shows how good the graphics can get on an NES
One of my childhood favorites, but now that I'm old enough to understand the story, why does the nightmare show up, knock out the star rod, then... Fly away? Lmao, it makes no sense
StarRod Kirby has the best portrait
In the GBA version did they give him the little witch hat with it? If not that's a missed opportunity.
I like this more than nightmare in dreamland.
(grabs popcorn)
I couldn't agree more
huh, someone agrees with my opinion!
I usually prefer the originals over remake too :P
Baits don't usually work when you point them out as bait. Though it is a valid opinion.
Nightmare in Dreamland is mostly superior, However Kirby's Adventure Music DEMOLISHES Nightmare in Dreamland's music
7:40 - How calculators react when you try to divide zero by zero
Am I the only one who beat nightmare by camping in the corner and popping out to attack? Yeah it's cowardly but I was never good at games! Lol
+babysinclairfan Basic me with every boss.
The final battle is actually a flasher in a trench coat they just were nice enough from blure it out.
Yeah nobody needs to see some shadow wizard count Chocula's wang.
2:55 the fucking BEAT is DROPPING and child me knew, this shit was for REAL for real, still get hyped about it.
Actualy guys what is that song called ? does it even have a name? What's that enemy called? It's not nightmare yet is it?
So, King Dedede was the good guy all along.
I could never get past the dark orb as a kid.
And so began the recurring trend of making most of the Kirby final bosses nightmare fuel.
Nightmare's sprites are fantastic
I like how in Kirby’s adventure, it is the first time that king dedede starts helping kirby or trying to stop something bad 2:20 8:31 “read the text”
I also am stuck on the floating orb section
Here is what I thought this fight was: Kirby wasnt listening to dedede, but dedede got scared and shot kirby and the star rod at nightmare. But kirby is far to afraid to focus on fighting because he was just thrown into a fight against someone he is afraid of. But this is when kirby learns that he has the power to do crazy things like this. And that's why I always thought there was that space god final boss trend in these games.
"Kirby... throw him into the fountain... throw him into the fountain, Kirby... and I will make all of your dreams come true..."
Man it was a good looking game for a NES Title. I played the gameboy version as my first kirby game, then Nintendo Switch came out and i tried this classic. Tho the game tries to like load so many sprites happening at once the game slows down drastically when they're too many enemies on my screen. But nonethuless this game was an example of how pretty colors and backgrounds can be for a game
Weird paradox involving Popstar's Moon:
After the finale, a huge chunk of the moon blows up, as a nonscientific explanation to why the moon looks like a crescent. However... during the Meta Knight battle, which happens EARLIER IN THE GAME, the moon is already a crescent! (And it's alive, meaning if Kirby blew it up, he probably killed it.) Now let's go even EARLIER. Remember Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright? You blew them up too, and Mr. Shine was THE MOON. Not only that, but before he was blown up, he was (once again) a crescent! Now we are going REALLY far back. In one of the stages of Kirby's Dreamland, the there's a secret room only accessible by holding up on the CRESCENT SHAPED moon, as if it were a door. Okay, now let's hop back in our time machine, but this time, we go to the future!
SPOILERS AHEAD!
(Even though this game is pretty old anyway...)
In Kirby Superstar, you fight Marx on the moon just like Nightmare. But there is no blown up piece. If there were, you'd probably fall in. Then again, these are just what-if scenarios. Farther into the future, perhaps?
SPOILERS!
(For Triple Deluxe this time. This game is much less old, so I can understand not wanting spoilers.)
During the final battle with Sectonia, the moon is full. It shouldn't be.
So yea. This was pretty long. I feel sorry for you if you are some poor sap who pressed "Read More" and got WAY more than they bargained for.
I think popstar has either a regenerating moon, multiple moons or it is a plot hole.
It has taken me 18 years to realize Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland is a remake of Kirby's Adventure. Glad the remake seems to stay true to the original. A bar I go to has this on their mini NES.
This will always be my favorite game ever.
When I was a kid this game had the best twist ending. Dedede turning out not to be some irresponsible arrogant king bathing in the fountain of dreams but instead did his best to keep the darkness from overtaking his realm. But here comes Kirby under the impression that Dedede is just being an arrogant brat fighting through everything the king can throw at him, and Meta Knight knowing there's more to the story testing and training Kirby because he knows Kirby can defeat the king, resulting in Nightmarish repercussions.
They saw Kirby coming and realized that he COULD win against the Nightmare.
Dedede was terrified of that thing getting loose but once it was was all like "Okay, you let him out, YOU deal with him!"
Kirby just goes with it and kicks anti-celestial butt.
I beat this game today,
I never noiced the paralax scrolling at the forlast battle and ending backthem, but these day's i can clearly notice this effect, wich is amezing,it seems to be a reflective regret for Nintendo in that they had made the nes with limmited capabilities, as Nintendo had to expend the nes capabilies with external chips to keep attracting game developers.
Uh...you do know that ALL systems have limited capabilities, right?
- SuperCoolman155
So then why is there the PS4? Why is there any consoles left in the market? If the PS3 has unlimited capabilities, why doesn't Sony have a monopoly?
- SuperCoolman155
No, the consoles this gen suck. They can't even do 1080p 60fps games that look like anything besides dusty shit. No console will ever have unlimited capabilities, thats like saying you can count to infinity.
- SuperCoolman155
That isn't counting to infinity. If you're counting forever, and not stopping it means you haven't reached your goal yet.
- SuperCoolman155
You could always stop and take a snack break though.
Man this was the first video game I ever bet as a kid!.
It is because of what this final boss can do that this final boss is put on nightmare blunt rotation.
Nightmare in Dreamland was my first kirby game, but i kinda wish i played this first so i could have more appreciation for it.
That space boss battle was my goddamn everest as a child. Shit took so long to beat.
Once you think your done nightmare comes along for one big fight
I remember the fight with Dedede.. I would always chicken out, even though it was really easy. His bloated form scared me out of fighting him...
I just realized. Nightmare is absolutely, totally just Waluigi in a cape.
I’m sad we never actually see Kirby wear the hat with the Star Rod. That aside: This marks the first time Kirby boss fights were badass.
Played this when I was around 10. I remember discovering this boss and losing to him just before bed, then having nightmares about him until I played a lot the next day and beat him. It maybe the first final boss I beat.
his name is very fitting then
I had the honor of playing this awesome game in my NES console decades ago, towards the end of its run, the NES had some amazing games that fully exploited the console's potential.
The NES lasted over a full decade in the market before getting obsoleted by the end of the 90s, a record very few other gaming systems can match, and its influence remains strong to this day, with the amount of "indie" games that fully embrace its aesthetics and soundtrack style.
Do yourself a favor and play this game, even on an emulator, you'll have a lot of fun.
I'm here because the last fight in Bloodstined: Curse of the Moon reminded me so much of this fight. (even more so in the "dark lord" route)
Luna's not gonna be happy about this.
In Zelda the moon comes crashing down on Link.
In Kirby, the Kirby blows up the moon as collateral damage.
Watching this makes me feel like a kid again.
I remember I used to play this game.
When I first fought this boss i notice the stars sounds like someone saying "ewww" constantly
i didn't know Nightmare was in kirby's adventure, i thought he was added in Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland.
Finn-Agin Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland is a remake of Kirby's Adventure.
Callumbuddy I know that but i thought that he was an extra boss, you know, sometimes remakes have that.
Finn-Agin Oh, okay.
Finn-Agin You where probably confused with Kirby Dreamland where DDD is the final boss.
2:23 Dedede: No, don't do it, zoi! I'm serious, zoi! Something bad will happen, zoi!
Man, fighting this boss was a Nightmare.
Dev 1: The end of the game is missing something.
Dev 2: How about we add R-Type and Metroid.
Dev 1: Book it.
I miss old game development.
