Silly comment, she spent a few weeks with the tag prior to her successful appeal - the original sentence was for costs plus 8 weeks tagged curfew. The conviction wasn't sound as was borne out by her successful appeal but one of the contributory factors to the wrong verdict being reached was Ms Russell's insistence on representing herself, she had a lawyer at the appeal. It should be noted that whilst in this particular instance the initial Court got it wrong in the three years following this the not so innocent Ms Russel was convicted a further 18 times for 28 offences, including multiple offences of criminal damage and battery, and multiple breaches of community orders and a Criminal Behaviour Order. She was then arrested and convicted for affray and carrying a bladed weapon when a member of the public stopped his car to assist Russell's girlfriend who Russel was assaulting in the street....she tan saying she was going to get her Dad but returned with a knife which she threatened the man with and when he got back in his car she actually stabbed the car and waved the knife at a 3 year old in the back seat.
Representing herself sure was silly. However, that case is still silly. And the appeal agreed with that. I can’t see how a judge can come to a guilty verdict even with the worst representation possible. Her crimes afterwards are also irrelevant. Prison* but yes
Your character might be usefull for deciding the severity of the punishment, they are completely irrelevant to whether you commited a crime in the first place.

Please don't take exception to my sarcastic sense of humour, but ..
after hearing the long list of punishments dished out to that unfortunate lady,
i feel like saying
"and on the third day, she rose again",
Which she DID!
Also ruzzia puts their people in jail for 25+ years. Just a tiny difference between punishments 😂😂😂
it doesn't matter - psychologically she got her mark... for this nonsense. It doesnt matter how many wins you will win against gov.
The fact that she even had to deal with this at all is just utter nonsense.. and the punishment maybe different but there shouldn't be a punishment at all

That smirk faded away faster than light.

It's actually even more shocking because Russia has a much bigger population than the UK.

Similar thing happened to a teacher I know. All she did was explain to students what NWA stands for and she was heavily reprimanded and ordered to undergo re-education and made an example of. Quoting band names and lyrics is not a friggin crime. What a joke.
Free speech is the most important right we have which is why they work so hard to silence it. Then they control the truth, they define it .
They're ''redefining'' new words every day because it's all about control
Free speech doesn't exist anywhere other than the US. lol. We're the only ones who have an ammendment preventing our government from restricting our speech and expression.
When he first explained it, I thought the company had sued her for copyright infringement. But no, it was a prosecution over the content--so why isn't the content publisher liable as well?

That's a really difficult one to answer, but we all get told to blame the immigrants for everything, so whenever unsure, just say immigrants are to blame, and you'll get a round of applause from most, in Britain.
Right now, I think the whole English speaking world is completely nuts...
I'm from an English speaking country and I don't disagree with you. Thankfully, it's not ALL of us.
It's spread to all of the EU, too

I'm in a Quasi-English speaking country and we understand how nuts you are.
It comes from America 100%…sort those nut bags out and all will be well again
That's completely insane... These countries are out of control.. They need to worry about the sick and nasty disgusting things that are online
Thank you for exposing THE CORRUPTION OF POLICE AND LAW IN UK.
Ypu dont know the words od this song
In Russia people even font try to write anything in social media snd eveb are not allowed to liked some things because of fear of being put in prison or even killed
Do you know what corruption even is? stop shouting dumb stuff because you are mad at something. Enough of that going around.
Corruption? It was a case covered in the news. The whole meaning of corruption is doing things outside of the public eye.
The fact this guy claims only 400 people in Russian got arrested for using their freedom of speech on social media, that shows how corrupt Russia is. Because everyone knows it's not just 400 cases.
The 3300 cases in the UK, are 3300 because they are well documented and registered, while so many cases in Russia are changed are not talked about.
The fact that the numbers in the UK are higher than in Russia is proof that corruption is lower in the UK than in Russia.
You can disagree with it of course, but it has nothing to do with corruption.
If the freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent, we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.
George Washington.
We are being led to slaughter by Israel.
Small fries are much easier to handle than big fishes and sharks.
It's always easier to go after the petty offenders than to go after the real criminals.
Sure, but that isnt even a crime. This is what tyranny does.
It is not a crime😊
Of coarse. I was fined for reading the news on my phone while the car was stationary, at a red traffic light. The ticket said "using mobile phone while driving (even if your engine is on, and its parked mode in australia, you are treated the same as if youre on hugh soeed freeway)". That exact same morning, on same road the police was patrollimg, minimum 5 cars massively speeding (nkt just speeding)past me, yet I did not see a single arrest.. or pulled over.
So true!
Except this is not even a petty offense, it's not a crime. Or shouldn't be in any civilized society.
The Immediate transition from amused to pure shock shows just how ignorant the people are the government control.
Free speech is only a distant memory for us in fascist Britain.
then change it
You never had free speech. You confuse the US 1st amendment with the wrong country. Even your Former Prince Henry said that the right to free speech doesn't make sense and people shouldn't have the right to say what they want. That was during an interview with Oprah.
We might not be far behind you in the U.S. old friend.
Please don't let this happen to the UK!!
FIGHT!! And take your country back!
They slipped a couple past you but its not too late. Protest! If necessary REVOLT!

But your back now.😂
I have never understood why anyone would post anything on FB unless they were advertising a business.
Exactly, it only has power over you if you're on onboard, if everyone just stepped off the whole platform would fall off the edge.
Animal Farm was a prediction not a warning.
Same as American Pie.
In the book 1984 Orson Wells wrote about what he was seeing happen to with governments and the elite control that was already occurring back in 1948 when he wrote it. That was not a prediction but concern for what was already happening. He didn't realize that tv would become so hugely influential, but he had the three minutes of hate right. That totally describes our current daily news.
You forgot to add, in russia arrested means 20 years in prison
Democracy and free speech in UK? Never heard of it 😂
That's cause in Russia most dare not say anything. That statement did count how many statements made by Brits vs Russia, if you had that figure then it be a fair comparison. Else it's just dangling factoid.
You can go to russian, and experience "freedom of speech in Russian"
Democracy and free speech in the world? Never existed!
Democracy and freedom is just an utopian ideology that can never happen. Nothing in this world is free.
@HornedGod1weak immigration laws are going to destroy the best countries in the world.

Not the dangers of posting on social media” but rather “the dangers of electing tyrants”
You can't always see a tyrant coming until you've elected them. This is why it's important for the general populace to be armed without restrictions.
More just idiots. Most politicians aren’t evil people trying to control the world, they are idiots who think they are geniuses. They just can’t think for themselves, they only try to please the general public and be as inoffensive as possible.
Not the dangers of social media more the dangers of living in the UK anymore, and starting to go that way in the US.

Unoftunately, it is quite common that people skew the facts to match their world view.
1. I could not find that she was arrested but only that she was prosecuted.
2. A district judge gave her an eight-week community order which consisted of the curfew.
3. The sentence was overturned, as would be expected.
Whenever something seems crass always check the facts yourself.
He also conveniently forgot to mention that in Russia people get arrested fot critisizing the government and get _actual_ prison sentences, not community work.
But then again, the whole point is to pretend that Europe is somehow worse than Russia, and it works seeing as how many people in this comment section are willing to swallow it lol.
