Instead of conventional roofing material on carports, terraces, porches, etc substituting them for bifacial solar panels reduces general costs, reduces heat issues/adds to solar panel efficiency, is more pleasing esthetically etc.
I always that was a great Idea. I like having a covered backyard deck, rather than a crank out canvas awning I’d love to frame up a roof over it and use solar panels as the roofing material. Two birds with one stone.

I would advise going battery for the simple fact that many states are trying to charge for the energy you use from your OWN solar. Go off grid as much as possible.

It's not worth it, it starts off well but down the track it gets to the point when you start paying the government, you lose your credit, great incentive to start off but you end up losing that credit because of a greedy government, not worth it.

I have been off grid for almost 15 years. My inverter has died twice due to lightning. A thousand dollar repair each time, leaving me at the mercy of a gen set while waiting for the repair to be done. My inverter does not come with a built in surge protector. If yours does not have one, then I recommend to install an after market unit. This is my biggest recommendation to anyone considering a solar system. My second recommendation is to go for a 48 volt system. The higher the voltage the better. Do your own research on batteries, as there are a lot of options out there and most being easily accessible.
This really seems to cover a lot of the issues quite thoroughly. Maybe every home on the planet needs this if we really want to slow down climate change.
Batteries are the most expensive part depending on your set up and how many panels you’ll need depending on where you live. They cost about $11k for a cheap rack that you do yourself. That is considered a good deal for lithium iron phosphate which will generally retain 80% capacity after 15 years. This gets you 30 kwh, which is what the average US household uses in a day. If you want to have 3 days of independent power, well, you’re looking at 30k. Most people would be fine with just having 30 kwh.
I just priced solar for my home. 12 panels was $15,000. And the battery was $16,000. The panels are warrantied for 25 years, and the battery is only for ten years.😮
My biggest concern is hail. I am on my 3rd roof in the past 4.5 years due to hailstorms. The solar power firms claim they will withstand hail, but recent pictures of most of a solar farm destroyed by hail has me questioning it.
The risk of a roof leak is high and even if it doesn’t leak right away with uplift from wind the sealants give. Hopefully you have a standing seam roof
How do you mitigate the potential losses due to hail and severe storms. Do we have motorised racking systems with metal base that can flip panels to avoid potential losses?
When I’ve looked into solar, I’ve gotten pressured to let the installer own the panels, but use my roof. That’s a deal breaker for me. Does any company sell a solar and battery system that the customer owns 100%?

We installed solar in 2018 which produces 105% of what we use yearly. We're in California and it's mandated that new buildings 4 stories or less are required renewable energy and by 2035, California wants EVERYONE producing renewable energy. Now, the 3 largest energy providers in the state (San Diego, Southern Calif, and PG&E) are trying to get California Utility District to allow them to raise the charge for being hooked up to them. We pay an average of $15 monthly for having the privilege of sending power back to the grid and the energy providers want that cost raised. Additionally, all three want the discounts and any other price-saving measures given to the customer to be eliminated. So, there has been an ongoing battle to have California PUD refuse to allow the big 3 providers to take more money from customers.

I would do more than 100% because we now have electric cars and a lot of home appliances can be electric only like a heat pump instead of natural gas to worm up your house or electric oven and stoves etc.
Twenty bucks worth a solar lights, Arduino, And then just a few supplies off a amazon such as wire. You can run ambient lighting in your house for ten years off of twenty bucks.
i have one side solar for maybe 18 hours a day in summer and I dont se the other side lol.... it works good... maybe I should put good wind powers lol to get more power out of it...
Thanks for watching! I think what you’re describing is called net metering in Canada. It’s where you own the solar panels and they generate electricity that is fed to the grid. You then receive credit for the power you generate, which is applied against the energy usage in your home. As far as we know, this doesn’t generate income, but if the system is sized correctly for your usage, you could potentially offset all of your electricity bills and also generate solar power for the grid. I don't care much about selling my excess power, so I'd keep it simpler and cheaper to just run home stuff. Excess power can make hot water or power some winter heat.

@Eric-ii9ce I have a 2,000 sq. ft home, all living area, all electric, my light bill is less than one hundred a month year round, I have a timer on my hot water tank and power strips on all appliances, including microwave, TV, and all such as this, I turn them off when not in use. I have a high efficiency central unit, My brothers home is around 1,400 sq. ft. his light bill is almost $400 a month. I keep trying to help him set his home up like mine but I guess he likes spending money.
Sounds like these "solar panels" and so on are more FOR RICH PEOPLE. You buy all that stuff out of your pocket, you have to make sure that you got LANDS to put the solar and PAY EVERYTHING.

Reducing power bills is so much wiser than investing 50k or far more into a good solar system. Most average sized homes that are well insulated and have some modern tweaks for extra energy savings can result in $60 - $100 per month electric bills. How many months of electric bills would the cost of a nice solar system pay for? $50,000/100/12 equals 40 years of grid electric bills. Considering that you’ll be replacing the solar system long before that the grid wins again. You just have to know how to use energy wisely and how to make your home more efficient. Granted that an offgrid situation is different. Where my cabin is located it would cost $100k to get grid power to it…so solar system wins.
I would advise if you have extra money and want to make an impact in the environment go ahead and install solar,but if you just want so save money on your power bill don’t install solar,electric companies have taken over. In my case I have 26 panels to produce enough power for my house right? Well not anymore,it work in a weird way where if you don’t use it goes to the grid (power company)which they pay you not even half for kilowatt for what they charge you for it,to fix this issue you have to install batteries [15-25k] depending on your system so if you add 50k +15 that’s 65k,you can see savings in about 20-30 years,like I said only if you care about wealthy people’s future then buy solar.
In texas, solar is a scam. The electric companies dont do 1:1 net metering. You end up paying transmission fees, AND they dont give you full price. So unless you do FULL home back up with batteries that will cover 130% of your usage than solar in texas is not financially a good idea.
why don't you show us all the hardware installed and only the solar panels, the solar panels surely cannot provide the AC power that you use for your electric appliances, it requires batteries and converters to convert the DC power back to AC.
Could you explain why California utilities are charging home owners to have solar connected to the grid? Stories are circulating of getting to the end of the year and finding out there's a bill for thousands of dollars. Please balance your reporting with the downsides of owning the solar panels too, please.
Cost? Solar is very expensive. Batteries are very expensive and have a certain life span. You all are crazy rich. What happens when a hail storm comes along and destroys the panel? Ground mounts take up a lot of space and are an eyesore, ruining the landscape.

Only way I would go solar is two ways I can pay for it up front, or it's buried into the home price. Both are still astronomical prices.. Otherwise solar panels are a joke. Before solar your bill maybe $150 (thanks Biden) After solar your bill maybe $15 ..... But panel leases/rent $375... I see no savings
No one is talking about the additional cost to remove and replace the panels when the roof needs to be replaced do to age. 90% of people ditch the panels when the realize that they have to find a third party company (which don't exist ) to remove and replace the panels. The roofers won't touch them and the solar panel companies will only install new systems. That is the cold hard solar truth that no one want to talk about. Sorry.
Excellent. For decades I thought that it was a fantastic idea although I've never done it. Only the last few days I realized that it's a very bad idea as drilling into a good roof will only bring problems. If they simply mounted into the roof deck, not the rafters, then it's only a matter of time before water will get in. It's OK to have the panels in the yard on some type of a stand but I'd never put them on my roof. Leave the roof alone!

Oh Lord Stay Away From Solar Panels, they don't give you what you need as you'll see below & very expensive. I live in Sunny SE Texas & my Buddy had his roof covered with Panels! He (He & Wife only) had to pay $315 a month for 30yrs for the system & still had to buy electricity from the grid!! My neighbor got a quote & it was around the same cost for a doublewide manufacturer home. Hell no, it's not worth it. Especially if you have a $170 electric bill. Your adding Debt for No Reason. If that home burns down? Like my Buddies did, insurance didn't cover those Panels. Now you're stuck with that debt.

You need a metal roof.
Or slate, but the whole building has to be designed ground-up for that. Metal would be best bet.

How do you know which solar contractors are most reputable and actually know what you're doing?
Chances are going online or even better finding someone in your neighborhood and asking them about their contractor.

No one is talking about the additional cost to remove and replace the panels when the roof needs to be replaced do to age. 90% of people ditch the panels when the realize that they have to find a third party company (which don't exist ) to remove and replace the panels. The roofers won't touch them and the solar panel companies will only install new systems. That is the cold hard solar truth that no one want to talk about. Sorry.
Excellent. For decades I thought that it was a fantastic idea although I've never done it. Only the last few days I realized that it's a very bad idea as drilling into a good roof will only bring problems. If they simply mounted into the roof deck, not the rafters, then it's only a matter of time before water will get in. It's OK to have the panels in the yard on some type of a stand but I'd never put them on my roof. Leave the roof alone!
If I install solar, it's because I don't want to be on grid.
the power company will just charge you more money every year if you have solar panels . because the power company don't like to loses money ..the poor people will pay more because they can't afford solar

I live in Sunny SE Texas & my Buddy had his roof covered with Panels!
He (He & Wife only) had to pay $315 a month for 30yrs for the system & still had to buy electricity from the grid!!
My neighbor got a quote & it was around the same cost for a doublewide manufacturer home.
Hell no, it's not worth it.
Especially if you have a $170 electric bill. Your adding Debt for No Reason.
If that home burns down? Like my Buddies did, insurance didn't cover those Panels. Now you're stuck with that debt.
