I didn’t have Mario 64 back in the day so I’m having a blast. It took me an hour to get used to the camera and the controls.
I played sunshine as a kid and I’m stoked to replay that and actually beat it.
I never got Galaxy on the wii so I’m looking forward to that too.
Then it’s time for Odyssey for the 3rd time!
My first time with Mario 64 as well. That camera, man. My god. I had to stop playing and jump to Sunshine.
Yeah they were inverted plus used buttons not a stick so less natural on joycon than the 64 control. However at the time it was the first 3d platformer so games that followed were wierd for a while.
@@acamp2209 Pro tip: don't move the camera around so much. It was never mapped to a stick originally, and wasn't designed for modern double stick controls where you move the camera constantly. When I was a kid I don't think I ever touched the camera at all. Just play it without touching it until you absolutely have to and you should have a better experience
Ive played all the mario games on all stars but never remembered a whole lot on super mario 64 because i never played that game a whole lot.

Sunshine is actually my favorite of the collection and still holds up as my favorite mario game of all time. There's just something so pleasing about Isle Delfino.

I've never played it before, I missed it and the Galaxy games, but after I went through Mario 64 for the 65th or so time (love that game), I started Sunshine. I get that it's different than your typical 3D Mario game, but I'm falling in love with the damn thing and it's insanely fun! Except maybe some of those damn pure platforming stages, those things are driving me insane with how hard they are. I'm seriously enjoying it though!

Olimar Jones I agree with you, however all the 3D mario games are experimental except mario galaxy 2 as it was a sequel to a very successful game, but all 3D games could easily be received differently and poorly like unfortunately super Mario sunshine seemed to be, if you just think of all the 3D mario games out of context, Mario 64 was one of the first 3D games ever, Mario Galaxy was in space and had very strange gravity, super Mario 3D world was more linear and less world exploration unlike the other 3D Mario games and Oddesy had cappy, which could have been like fluud which people also don’t seem to like for some reason
yes! mario sunshine is my favorite, I love mario 64 and I always feel like home with that game and Galaxy I play the game for the firts time like two months ago and it is a great game, now I'm gonna have my opinion with the new port but sunshine is perfect, I love it!

I haven't played it but that's why it's the one I'm most looking forward to trying. If I had to guess why it's not as fondly remembered, maybe it has to do with the game being a departure from the usual 3D Mario-style platforming. But, it looks like a decent game in its own right that I'm excited to try.
@@albatross1688 Like every 3D Mario game, it does add additional mechanics beyond "jump good"- but this one does arguably play up those mechanics more than any of the other 3D Marios. I don't know if I would really call it a "departure" though, as it still very much feels like a Mario game.

That would be really nice, but Wind Waker and Twilight Princess got HD remasters on WiiU and people have wanted Skyward Sword HD since the switch's launch, and you can just use Cemu for TP and WW HD

I still own Mario 64 for the Wii Virtual Console and bought Mario Sunshine and Galaxy full price back in the day when they released so yes I will emulate them on 1080p 60 fps with HD texture pack and not shill out 60 dollars again for literally the same games again with not much added and worse controls/camera.

Weirdly enough, first time I ever played Super Mario Sunshine was in a McDonalds Play Place, when they used to have little arcade sections with old console games. The ones I specifically remember were Sunshine, Sonic Heroes, and Sonic Riders.

One Nintendo quirk that probably makes ports like this difficult is their insistence on using a different controller for every system. It makes each of their systems feel unique, but it means ports on later systems can never feel 100% authentic, barring the occasional Gamecube title ported over with Gamecube controller support...which this port of Sunshine apparently doesn't have. So...I can imagine it was a huge headache to try and emulate all three games while making them feel right on the Switch.

It still feels different as the analog triggers won't work as they would in the original GameCube game, which would have been possible had this port had proper GameCube controller support instead of the game just recognizing it as a Pro controller. But, using a GameCube controller in this port will still feel 90-95% authentic, and is the best option for that.

I'm really happy to finally have all of these games available on the go. I admit that I'm dissapointed that the package was rather barebones, especially compared to other collections that have been put out by other companies or Nintendo themselves in the past, but I've still had a blast playing these three games over the past few days, and I'm glad they're here in any capacity whatsoever. I hope that Nintendo adds some updates overtime to improve this collection's, or that they release bigger and better ports/remakes/masters in the future for these games. I have to say I'm very worried about the practice of limited releases spreading throughout the industry, the way Tyler has predicted in his KnowledgeHub channel. I suppose we'll have to wait and see what happens.

@@spritsfal5088 No worries! Fair warning though, if you areused to Mario 64 controls there is a chance you may not like the DS controls. I played DS first so I was used to it. So just a warning.

Sunshine is my favorite mario game actually. It's always really satisfying comboing various jumps along with fluud to traverse the world.

The general consensus is its the worst but not by much. It has a pretty devout fanbase that is everywhere though so a lot of people will agree with you.
Cameron Smith sunshine’s movement is leagues better than 64s, it’s tight as fuck, you can barely turn in 64, in sunshine you can do a side flip from a standstill, or even side flip forwards while running
As time goes on, I'm starting to sense why this collection is a limited run, as 2020 is an awkward year for Nintendo and the way these games are handled proves that N64, Gamecube and Wii are possible to emulate on Switch handware. And that might be hinting towards a major announcement, but we'll just have to wait until it gets to 2021 before we hear any big reveals from the company. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long, but only time will tell.
6:21 what? Yeah nope. That definitely depends on the generation. I played a little of Mario 64 and quit after keep dying at the Snow stage. And when i boot Mario Sunshine, ohh man. It automatically felt great. It has been a long time, since i played this master piece. Call me a nostalgia person. But yeah Mario Sunshine is great. I hate the parts that don't allow me to use FLUDD.
I don't get that either, but Sunshine was my first one, so for me it was like "this is great! Why did Galaxy stray so far from this?" and then Odyssey finally scratched that "more Sunshine" itch. A game based around actual tricky movements to get through 3d spaces, not just linear stunt tracks or ... i mean, 64 is just a mess. it did a lot for its day, but it's hard to enjoy now.
Not to say Sunshine doesn't have mistakes, but even those are weird and charming. baffling, in places, to the point that you can only laugh.
@@KairuHakubi sunshine is just frustrating to play with, I was honestly excited for sunshine the most since it was the only mario game I havent played, but the missions are just so frustratingly hard, and the movement is alright I admit alot more agile than mario galaxy, but I preffered galaxy over it, the tropical island setting was also getting boring to look at, its maybe just not a game for me but I honestly just quit the game and moved on to galaxy due to how frustrating it is

Mario 64 is one of my favorite games but I have already played through it several times. I wish they added more to it like they did with the DS. I would definitely play a updated version with new textures, stars, character, and camera like they did with the DS version.

The good thing is Nintendo can update the "Polish" on these games with an update. Hopefully they do just that to increase it's value!
They all feel great to play, Mario controls exactly as expected for me in all of the games. But I’m personally more nostalgic for Galaxy and Sunshine than 64, but I am excited to play through all three of them.
I honestly almost joyfully cried when I played galaxy because I loved to play on the wii and the game felt extremely similar, and my heart was filled with joy.

I was hoping you would make a video on this collection! I preordered all stars as soon as I saw the drop on the e shop. Mario is one of my favorite Nintendo franchises. Even with all the hate for the limited time availability, the games are still great and the fact that Nintendo made them available on the switch makes me so happy! I get to relive my childhood and hit that nostalgia button with all 3 of these games. Now they will be on my switch where ever I go.
that's the whole problem, Nintendo does such a poor job of letting you play their old games that people are willing to take whatever crap nintendo slaps together. I still wonder where people are getting all this patience for nintendo from. They're taking a big mario collection off all storefronts in 6 months. It's all for the money. and the reason I would emulate games (who cares if its illegal) is cause I doubt nintendo will even put many of their games on the switch.

i’m currently playing sunshine and i’m loving it. i played it on gamecube but never in full, so it feels fresh to me. it’s such a unique way to play mario. i played a lil 64 but the controls and camera are annoying but i have good memories of it on DS. Excited to play galaxy once i’m done with sunshine.

The Mario 64 port was the only time I've noticed input lag in a video game ever in my life. But only like once was it really noticeable, I still had a blast.

Hell no. 3d world is a great game for what it is, a linear game. Sunshine is just bad at being a game period
I’m still not certain that this obvious cash grab is even worth it, $60 is way too overpriced for 3 ports. I wouldn’t pay $20 for just a PORT of an N64 game nor would I pay $20 for a single (again) basically just a port of a GameCube game in 2020 so unless you’re telling me that galaxy is still worth $40 then this collection just isn’t worth it. It’s also pretty scummy when you realise that The Crash and Spyro remakes were priced at $40 each and Rare Replay (which included Banjo 1,2,3, Conker, Grabbed By The Goulies, perfect dark 1,2 and MANY MORE) also launched for $40. Nintendo’s pricing strategy is horrible but they know that their Nintendrone fans will buy it up.
Again with the crash and spyro comparisons, seriously people... compare it to other ports/remasters, not remakes and compare it as such. But that out of the way, I do agree that it's overpriced.

I got it for 38 because I had a voucher, totally worth it for that price, it should’ve been 40-45 bucks to begin with.
Froggy I compared to rare replay which is a collection of 30 ports for $40 and used Spyro/Crash to show that a complete remake of 3 games can cost less than $60 meaning that complete ports should also cost less than $60. I wasn’t comparing the quality of the products I’m simply comparing their value

Never was a big Mario game fan myself, but the one game I did play often at my cousin's house was Super Mario Sunshine and man I loved that game! I remember thinking the graphics were soooo good and the water looked so nice, and really enjoyed the atmosphere of that game. That game alone is going to make me buy this package on the switch.

Emulating an N64 game on a PC is your PC emulating N64 hardware to run the N64 game.

An emulator translates instructions to run stuff on things it wasn't made for. Like how Dolphin runs GameCube games on the PC for example.
I still remember playing Galaxy for the first time, it was in the afternoon and I got home from GameStop, my older brother told me his friend loved this game so I was super jazzed to play it for the first time...and I loved it.

I’ve never played any of these games and I think all of the games aged extremely well I can’t decide if galaxy or sunshine is my fav tho and 64 is still amazing but it has nothing special to give it that defining feature to make it feel different from the others

Mario Sunshine is the least favorite? Everyone I know who grew up with Nintendo and had it seem to enjoy it the most. I personally never got into the Galaxy games.
Where I'm from opinions were pretty mixed.

The people who love it really love it and the people who think the game is janky like it a lot less than one should dislike any 3D Mario Game. The general consensus is its the worst of the 5 though not by much, but it has a pretty devout fanbase.
It has the fastest movement and most precise manual camera, that's all I ask for.
When you flick the control stick, mario didn't need to "accelerate" he just dashes immediately. And turning is also instant.
Also it has enough polygons unlike 64, and it doesn't need garbage motion controls and pointers and sensors like galaxy, so what more could you need...
I have been loving these ports and have been having a great time watching you play through them on twitch. I have so much nostalgia for 64 but haven’t played the other 2 until now. Galaxy is so much fun and is so damned pretty. I’m ok with the look of 64 but just wish they would have taken the time to make a free moving camera. Yes it may make the game easier and a lot different from the original, but it would honestly be a really nice touch

Exactly yea, playing through Galaxy with a pointer that actually works is quite charming. Back in the day, my sensor bar would never work correctly, and I would end up having the pointer hardily stay on the screen or fucking disappear every 5 seconds.
Spoiler: laggy, cameras are screwy if you're used to Nintendo Cameras.

I agree the whole some fans crying over "its just an emulation wahh" like who cares lol most compilation games collections are. It's not HD remastered, redone Nintendo never said that yet some entitled fans act like this was some sort of HD 4k unreal engine promise or something...lol
The game is amazing and the physical copy has limited copies that will go up in value in the future no doubt.
I mean no game is perfect and someone will always find something to complain about but as a kid who grew up in the 80s and 90s I can't complain and can live with the minor flaws.
Half of the negative response I think is that it feels low-effort. Letting Nintendo get away with the bare minimum isn't great for consumers.
And many have claimed Nintendo engages in artificial scarcity with it's products, something they have always denied. This release looks like straight up admission of guilt.
There’s literally zero reason to drop $60 on it. Mario 64 is a literal port with no changes when it seriously needed some. Sunshine controls worse. Galaxy forces you to use joycon motion.

The price for what it delivers is more of the issue than the collection itself. These types of barebones collections are never (afaik) $60. Way fewer complaints if it were around $40. Nintendo is straight up below industry standards and charges you more for it, thats why people are mad.

At this point I'm tired of you people dissing SM64 because it doesn't play like new mario titles. The controls and camera are not bad, they are what they've always been. YOU are the one who is not used to them and are probably noobing out. I beat those 3d mario games at least once every year, and guess what? Nothing feels weird cause I don't have bizarre expectations towards them.

I’ve played all three of these games back in the day. I bought the digital copy first and I’ve got a physical on the way. Was super cool playing Mario 64 on the Nintendo Switch when I haven’t played it in twenty years.
I was born in 1992 and the Nintendo 64 was the first true 3d system at the time I grew up playing Ps1 at the time and seeing the Nintendo 64 at a friend's house one time with Super Smash Brothers got me hooked onto wanting a 64 so I eventually got one but I eventually sold it for a dreamcast but still seeing a full 3d Mario game back than was truly ground breaking and I will always remember the moment also down the line in life in my teen years I got the Wii which was Mario Galaxy and that was one of my favorite Wii games ever,I absolutely loved the motion control gimmick of the Wii it's still one of my favorite systems to this day and this collection is like a homage to my past memories with these systems

My physical copy of Super Mario 3d All Stars from Amazon finally came in today so yay. It will be my first time playing Mario 64 and Sunshine. As for Galaxy I played it some but never finished it.
