This is a neat, simple blue incandescent light bulb! I like how that filament dims all the way down like that.

I remember when those and the frosted bulbs were the only options. The frosted ones used to get SO hot. Man I miss my youth.

I believe all bulbs that are the equivalent of 25 watts or less, or 150 watts or greater are exempt from the new efficiency rules.

@@vwestlife not sure about the 150 watts, but I know 200 & 300 watt incandescent are still sold at home depot and lowes, including the famous 50-200-250 watt 3 way. Certain incandescent bulb shapes and those with a E39 aka mogul base are also exempt. The 60 and 100 watt globe shape bulbs popular in the 1980s and 90s for the Hollywood vanity style bathroom fixtures are still available, as is the 100-200-300 watt 3 way. There is (or was) also a 50-100-150 watt 3 way PS-25 with a mogul base as well.

I still see the GE party bulbs at some Meier stores here in Michigan. Just look at them sideways and the coating flakes off :(

It’s sad that the coating burns off, but what do we expect? It’s just a cheap bulb. I’m sure it’ll last longer than a cheap LED bulb, though. Great find.

Way back in the day 60 & 100 watt blue incandescent party bulbs were available, they are listed in my 1993 GE lamp /ballast catalog, the 100 watt version was an A23, I'd imagine they were of a much higher quality than the incandescent party bulbs you can buy today.
I used to have some blue and green 25 watt bulbs from about 2011 or so, I think they were GE and I've found that the coating basically burns off or flakes off after many hours of use because they get so hot and the coating was thin to begin with.
The largest party bulb I currently have is a BT37 400 watt mercury blacklight blue, made of woods glass (used in a metal halide Hang-A-Light fixture) and it gets SUPER HOT, seems hotter than the clear ED37 metal halide. I use it in the polebarn for the Haunted house setup on Halloween week.

Black lights get hotter in general. My Philips 75-watt black light bulb got hotter than even a 200-watt incandescent bulb.

Nice! But I bet that that's a fake brass base. The filament supports looked to be very nice. Back in the old light bulb filament years I used to see very cheap light bulbs that had the filament floating between the electrodes and used to shake. How cheap was that? I'm dating myself. They were bargain GE light bulbs.

    Does it smell?🤔

Good question! This bulb was in use for a while before I made the video of it so most of the smell has gone.
