I kind of see it as a new beginning for her. A lot of the GL ships have been converted, some from WW2 vessels. I'd much rather see her converted than scrapped. To me, nothing is sadder than watching a freighter on its last voyage to the scrap yard and being towed, not even under its own steam anymore.
It's a very neat tactic to covert an oil tanker into a cargo ship. This was a strong vessel to begin with, only 26 years old & never hauled salt - so definitely there's value in transforming her into another useful purpose; it could extend her service for another decade or two!
