  • Eight years ago I did a video on the 40 V trimmer. I have since ditched that one. Here's why.

    I recently got the 18v trimmer free with buying a set of batteries. I did notice that it would bog down in the thicker grass. But the light weight and the fact that I can use the same battery in all my tools makes it worth it. But if u don’t mind a little extra weight and cost the 40v is a healthy trimmer

    Ryobi batteries got a "electric board " that control the charge. Most of the times if the battery is runnin in low voltage it will send a message to the charger telling that the battery is damage. In the worst case it will be true but there's some hacks and DIY batteries restauration and sometimes you got the opportunity to safe the battery.
    Good choice with the combo.

    The 18v trimmer had a major
    Flaw the cord isn’t bump feed. It releases every time you press the button I’ve ran through so many cords now and they charge $6 a spool!

    • @ti994apc
      @ti994apc 2 роки тому

      Re-stringing it is super easy. You only need one spool. Use .80 and follow the arrow. However, rapid load on bump feed is easier.

      @D.H.CE_FL 2 роки тому

      My 18v is bump feed, but I just picked up a tiny cheap one that (hopefully) my son can use. I'll have to check that it is bump feed, if not that will be a terrible design.
      As said above, just restring yours. This pre-filled spools are crazy.

    40v is obviously stronger. I got the 18v and put it through some heavy tall stuff and edged a really overgrown yard. 40v is obviously stronger but for anyone doing basic weekly and seasonal yard work the 18v is just perfect. Never thought I would give up the gas powered trimmer.

    I have both of the trimmers, the 18V and the 40V. And there is absolutely no comparison between the 2. I understand that you have a 1/2 acre and flower beds cuz you continuously mention it, but using it to maintain your yard weekly is a much different setting than what others might be using it for. A weed trimmer is a tool that should be versatile enough to be used in multiple of environments, that's why people purchase them. The 18V, Model #P20120VNM with one battery & charger costs $189, the 40V Model #RY40250 with a 4hr battery and charger costs $179. Plus, the 40V model is also attachment ready, you can add many other attachments to it making it a much more versatile, less expensive and much more powerful of a tool. And for $50 more, you can get the Trimmer and Blower combo set, Model #RY40290VNM

    I have the blower but the regular weed eater, I can do 2 acers with one battery on the weed eater. It depends on what you are blowing on how long it last but usaly I only do one acer and still have battery left.

    I live on a corner and I have too much edging for the 18v. But the 18v does work well for the average house.

    Trimmer looks great, but I can only find it with a 18 volt 2 AMP battery, not the 4 AMP. I've looked at Home Depot and Amazon. Do you know where I would be able to purchase the 18 volt with a 4 amp battery?

    • @DIYHIPChicks

    Got the 18v yesterday, and it's terrible!! Have thick weeds growing, on a full charge it barely lasted 10 minutes bofore runnilng out of power. I have no idea how you can claim to do a whole yard that huge size and be happy with it. Saying you want a light tool because of health issues doesn't make sense... people with frail health shouldn't be doing massive amounts of landscaping in the first place, its the very definition of labor intensive! Most of us want something that WORKS, not a tool that's light and useless. Mine will be getting returned ASAP.... very annoying waste of time to clean it and take it all back apart and back into the box. Ugh.

      @DIYHIPChicks  Рік тому +2

    • @AA-zq1sx
      @AA-zq1sx Рік тому +1

      @@DIYHIPChicks Using weekly is the key difference I think...sounds like you have a very well maintained property if you take the trouble to landscape weekly. I had very tall thick weeds and blackberry bushes on a neglected lot and it was useless... definitely need the 40V for that kind of work! Cheers.

      Hi I was not paid by Ryobi to share this 18 v trimmer. I did so because it is a nice option for homeowners. Yes My sons will help with the lawn care. But I usually do all the landscaping on my 1/2 acre property and have for 25 yrs. Planted every shrub and tree and built my own 1000 gallon koi pond. I am very credible even if I get some help from husband and kids who hate yard work.
