If I was at the store for a mallet, 10/10, I’d pick that one. It looks awesome, and I’d be all over the post recycled materials. Plus, as a tradesman, it’s really nice having an easily identifiable tool, it makes it less likely to get stolen. Hopefully manufacturers see this, maybe draw inspo
That is a cool tool! Love the look of it and the fact it's recycled.😁👍 And machining grooves into the handle to allow the plastic to form around and help the hdpe stick to it is a brilliant idea. Well done guys on another great Quick cut!👍👍
What's stopping you? Mallets are probably the easiest to make. I suggest that you use a soup can for the mold, and then use tin snips to cut it open, and then try to peel it away. As long as you don't care about a perfectly smooth finish, you should have a very useful product.
Great video that is in my opinion not accessible to the avg person. The set up with the fabrication and welding is advanced. You might gain more followers if you found ways to make these processes and the recycling more attainable by beginners. It could drum up more interest. I would certainly as a beginner be more inspired to try this. Great mallet. Thanks.
Thanks for your comment. We have some of videos on how to get started recycling for beginners on our channel. This one was to show what can be done, rather than purely focussed on those just starting out. Thanks.
What are the white and black bottles from that give the marbled pattern? Had a look through the comments but didn't see the answer Brilliant idea. Amazing results
You can’t really predict how it will turn out but after using certain plastics in other projects, it becomes easier to predict what they look like after they are formed. It’s always fun to reveal the layers on the final pass on the lathe!
Very cool and clever way to do that! Now that you have the jig, you can repeat the process and make a bunch. What kind of oven was that? Do tell! Awesome job guys!
Absolutely! The difficult thing now is collecting enough plastic! But we’ll keep going. This oven is one I (Matt) have access too at work so I’m not sure of the specs. We use it for shaping lots of different types of plastic for student projects 👍🏼
Yes exactly that John. The grooves in the handle help the plastic to bond better and the pointed end makes it a little easier to push into the hot plastic.
Great job guys and very fantastic pattern 👍👍. But I was wondering is it durable? and how this technique will react if the product was always out side in the sun air and rain? I enjoyed watching the video ❤️
Yes these mallets are super durable! We still used the one we made 4 years ago and it’s looks great! Apparently UV exposure can make the plastic degrade faster, which is something we’re testing out currently.
@@BrothersMake в наших краях у молотков ручка обычно в другом месте. )))) Как вы применяете это странное изделие? Я могу предположить, что можно стукнуть кого-то по голове
Hey! I'm new to having access to a lathe! Let it wobble, It won't be oblong or off balance. Seriously, that wobble scared me. I hope you had your danger goggles on.
Well doesn't that just look fantastic! I wonder if you could leave the handle oversized and then turn it down at the same time? Might help with concentricity.
Is it possible to make this without the metal mould and all that turning in the end? Just moulding with gloved hands and perhaps rounding off the sides with a flat surface or something? I would love to be able to make stuff without creating all that micro plastic dust.
I watch a lot of recycling videos. At almost 75 years old I can say I’ve seen just about everything. But not quite. Love your work.
Tom

This quickly escalated from "nice upcycling" to "wow, that looks awesome". Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Dom!!
You have used this in several projects, so it was great to see this. Thank you!

We think it’s cool how the recycling means that no two will ever be the same. So glad you like it Huey!
@@BrothersMake I've done a couple of things in HDPE2 and I'm gathering stuff for another go at it in the future. I love the way this stuff turns! 👍😁
It turns very easily! Great finish straight off the tools
Very cool! I like the pattern you came out with. And that press was a great way to get a repeatable setup.
The idea is that we can make more whenever we’ve saved up enough plastic 😁
I like the pattern
You could mass produce beautiful poker chips and game pieces, plates and bowls,
Why we aren't is crazy
Good work
Great ideas! Thanks 👍🏼

learned about your channel today and already watched like 10 videos. You guys make some really nice stuff and good videos!
have a nice day!
Thank you so much for your support!!
Literally doing this right now with some screw clamps. Hope it works! I used to can as my mold like a bunch of other people do online
Pattern is so cool I can't believe it was coincidental!!
Omg I would love to add one of these to my toolbox!
Give it a go! They’re fun to make 👍🏼

Real cool idea guys and I am really digging your new intro.
Glad you noticed the new intro! Thanks Seth
Cool looking functional tool that promotes recycling/sustainability, well done guys! 😃👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Thanks for your continued support Fred 👍🏼👍🏼
I love it! Makes me want to have a go!
Thanks Jason, you should!
Great stuff! Give them longer handles and brighten up the game of croquet!
Wow! This came out beautifully! Great video 👍
Thank you so much! 😁
It's like Damascus plastic :) Cool little project guys
Yes the marbling looks so cool! Thanks pal

@@BrothersMake I will check those out. Thanks!
Very funky. I bet it took a while to save all that plastic!
About a year actually! Thanks Alan
@@BrothersMake worth it 👌
That's a beauty!! Looks so good!
Thanks Soph! We were super happy with how the colours mixed on this one 😁
Really like that. Lots of engineering though
Simple,easy,awsome
The pattern really came out neat! Nice one!
It’s cool that no 2 are ever the same! Thanks Sharon
About how much plastic in milk tops or in weight do you usually need to fill a large soup can?
Looks great! Well done Guys
Thank you!
Hi I love your videos and want to try it. Please can you tell me which hot press you use as I can only find small ones xx
What are the white and black bottles from that give the marbled pattern? Had a look through the comments but didn't see the answer
Brilliant idea. Amazing results
The mallet looks cool! You got a really interesting pattern in there. Was that luck or by design?

Very Nice 👍
Organize and Nice 👍
Thanks!
Great color combination
Thank you!
I am inspired by your videos to recycle as many plastic as possible from daily life. Can I use any types of plastic? Is it very toxic to melt plastic?
HDPE and LDPE give off the fewest fumes and have a relatively low melting point, which is why they work well for this technique
really cool. ive been collecting my bottle tops ive got a idea in mind. i like your jig to prepare the wood for the lath. i like the music also.
The jig is a simple rounding cradle. Saves a ton of time! Look forward to seeing what you make with the bottle tops!
Very cool and clever way to do that! Now that you have the jig, you can repeat the process and make a bunch. What kind of oven was that? Do tell! Awesome job guys!

wow that was pretty cool!
Cheers Doug 👍🏼
That turned out Great (as did my pun 😊 ) 👍
Haha! Good one 😂
Wow
☺️
Turned it fantastic. Did you just press the handle in on the last heat?
Yes exactly that John. The grooves in the handle help the plastic to bond better and the pointed end makes it a little easier to push into the hot plastic.
Cool thank
Nice job guys! All the way around. The project, editing etc. All good. What sort of oven is that?
Thanks Chad. I’m not entirely sure - this one is at my work and students use it for forming plastics in their projects
Brothers Make what temp does it get to?
ManCraftingTM never gone to its max but used it at around 300degC for certain applications

Yes of course! We do save all our micro plastic for reuse
would this work if i were to melt it in an old soup can?
Yes absolutely!
Dats purdy!
I just don't understand where the colours white and black came on the mallet?I don't understand and want to make the same exact thing :)
Plastdamascus!
You got it!
Can i use my Microwave at home to melt Hdpe?
Not tried a microwave but I wouldn’t have thought so
Would vou guys recomend to use hdpe to make the rollers of a belt sander?
Probably not, as the high speeds would cause friction and therefore heat, which could melt the plastic
@@BrothersMake the melting temperatura is around how much?
Not sure on the low end. It will fully melt at about 150 celcius though
U keep it in owan? Any plastic can we used.?

Good ,but if I could afford the industrial oven ,and mig wielded , and bench press etc ,etc ,etc..I would have bought the HDPE mallet

HDPE is extremely durable! Similar in a lot of ways to kydex
Cool looking yes, but using as a tool I think its veeery dangerous!!! Could you please next time tell that the audience
Why would it be dangerous? 🤔
