    It's nice that Audeze finally figured out the weight issue with the LCD-5. But I have a huge problem with spending $4500 on a headphone that apparently has tight clamping issues and that needs some EQ tweaking to get it to sound good. Pass

  • @TheCangle
    @TheCangle 2 роки тому +4

    Nice review! I have the LCD-5 and can vouch for the new headband. It still clamps but is a lot more comfortable than the original one. I'm curious as I know you've used Flux amps in the past if you plan on trying the Volot. I have the Volot and that's been my favorite amp pairing for the LCD-5 as it expands the soundstage in all directions and produces a lively sound.

    • @MidFiGuy
      @MidFiGuy  2 роки тому +1

      The Volot looks like a monster and has been on the radar but it's so new and expensive I don't think I can get a loaner or find one used soon. Maybe I'll get lucky and get the opportunity to review it. How do you like it?

    • @TheCangle
      @TheCangle 2 роки тому +2

      @@MidFiGuy Yeah I wish there was more reviews out there, I think it deserves more attention. It has more power than I see myself ever needing and works great with all my headphones (800S, 1266, LCD-5). The Volot has the typical class A characteristic which to me is musical, slightly warm, and engaging, similar to the other flux amps but with more space and detail at all frequencies. The bass is definitely a step above the other flux amps. It's super versatile with the 4 gains and all the inputs so could see it being the only amp you ever need.

    you mentioned it maybe too mid forward, was wondering what are the negative effects of something being too midforward, as in effect on the sound, I know if a headphone has too much bass it can sound muddy, or if too much treble it can sound siblant, just wasnt sure what too much mids would do to the sound.

    • @MidFiGuy
      @MidFiGuy  2 роки тому +2

      I found it overly mid forward as compared to other headphones at least initially, but once you get used to it your brain adjusts. Plus with the eq settings I mention it's a non issue in my book.
      Being overly forward in the mids can overshadow the resolution and detail retrieval up high and down low. The LCD-5 is great at detail retrieval but it may be harder to notice if most of your focus is on the mids.

    • @djhmax09
      @djhmax09 2 роки тому +2

      imo it can sound too congested or too claustrophobic or too overly thick or too weighty in tonal density as well...
      but that being said, there's no negative effect if something leans mid-forward, bass-heavy, or treble forward.
      if implemented well, it can all sound great depending on what you like and the synergy b/w the system.

    LCD5 sounds amazing with the budget cayin iha-6. No annoying super mid focused sound and the bass is prominent after long hours of burn in. I use it interchangeably with empyrean and susvara. The sound stage is superior to susvara whereas the bass slam on meze compared to lcd5. But vocals r superior on lcd5 imo

      @@saarxee19 overall the experience with the 5s is an amazing one don’t get me wrong, but I’ve heard a few clips, and sometimes a pop shield on a vocalist not doing its job quite as well as it could.
      Just didn’t think it was possible to hear this much detail and 99% of the time that level of detail is an amazing and privilege of an experience.
