Midori ‘s violin tone is divine. Listening to her violin is like being in heaven. She was one of the most gifted violinist in the world. Thank you so much for your great videos.
What an absolute legend. Midori, you were and are an inspiration to women everywhere. Loved watching Seiji, Midori and Leonard, three icons, all creating and enjoying extraordinary music from their souls.
It is a wonderful piece, but you haven't heard all of it! Sadly. and for whatever reason, Midori omitted the second movement (moderato), which contains some striking harmonics and left hand pizz's. The similary gifted Chloe Chua, still only 12 but already treading the path Midori took to greatness, plays the omitted movement here. (I have started the video at the beginning of the omitted second movement.) ua-cam.com/video/pNGoAUz0nhE/v-deo.html
@@jackburgess8579 Midori played this piece well, Have you heard Gil Shaham's version? worth taking a look at and comparing; I love both interpretations!
@@jonathannguyen8985 Thank you for the suggestion. Having reacquainted myself with his performance with Abbado, I agree that Shaham sounds great and that in the main his interpretation is very persuasive. I still think Midori is more convincing though. In part this is because of her stage presence, but even sticking to audio alone I feel that Shaham overdoes the accelerandos both in quantity and quality. They are especially intrusive in the second movement (where I think the one at the end is uncalled for) and the finale of the piece (where the accelerando is so frenetic as to render Carmen more demented than animated). In the final analysis, if I had to chose one Carmen to live the rest of my life with and I couldn't have Midori's, I would go so far as to choose Chloe's over Gil's (although again Chloe's stage presence, which I find even more mesmeric than Midori's, would be part of the reason).
I must be getting "softie"; cause it moved me to tears hearing her playing with such exquisiteness; reminded of my grandpa calling me to listen to this kind of music balancing me in his knees; it got stuck in my mind, I'm so lucky!
I had never heard this before. Not only is it obviously incredibly virtuosic but it sounds amazing. The very ending just sounds so cool with the jumps to the very high notes (which may be harmonics, but I really don't know). The performance and sound quality are amazing. As close to perfection as is possible IMHO.
I remember watching this live at Tanglewood. Midori and Josuha Bell were the two youngsters I have been following since they were kids. Amazing performance. In the same night, Christa Ludwig sang a funny "I am easily assimilated" from Candide and later the fantastic chorus from West Side Story.
@@largebill1245 Thank you for this recommendation. As it happens though I am familiar with Hadelich's recital, in part because I knew that unlike most violinists, when performing the second movement (moderato) he keeps to Sarasate's score. Hadelich's performance is very good (and infinitely better than e.g. Sarah Chang's), but even after listening to it again I am sticking to my initial judgement that Midori's is the best. I didn't make that judgement lightly. I had previously reckoned Chloe Chua's performance - here ua-cam.com/video/pNGoAUz0nhE/v-deo.html - the most authentic and compelling, and I had reckoned that anything bettering it would have to be stratospheric.

It is a shame that she omitted the second movement (moderato)--I wonder why?!--but ignoring that, this fantastic performance is the best on YT.
