The party looked great. I am so happy that Miss A could spend the weekend. Her hair looks beautiful too!
Props to Miss A’s parents for letting her continue a relationship with you. A friend dealt with her children going into foster care 25 years ago. The entire family is still really close with the foster parents and their social worker.
Agreed, they don't owe us anything and so we are just grateful they allow us to continue the relationship. I think they do really notice how much we care about the family as a whole!
That’s really sweet. I was fostered a as a baby for a few months and as an adult I send a Mother’s Day card every year on behalf of all the kids my foster mum cared for.
I’ve never understood the parents who get super dismissive or defensive against foster parents. They’re people who step up to take care of their kid while they can’t. I’m glad Miss A’s family seems to be good people who understand that while they needed time to adjust to whatever issues caused it in the first place, their child was happy and well taken care of within her placement.
@@BMarie774 I think the relationship between bio parents and foster parents throughout the placement plays a big role on how things are handled afterward. I’m sure it’s difficult to separate the trauma and heartache from a child being taken away from the situation. It’s probably very easy to feel a bit of jealousy in regards to the foster parents getting to take care their child. However back in the early 2000’s I was approved to babysit a child in foster care. He was 5 at the time. I had been his nanny from the time he was a year old. Sadly his foster mom wasn’t so good at making sure he maintained his hygiene. Bio mom noticed it too. Foster mom would allow me to take him to church with my family because we had been attending church together for years. One Sunday my father looked at the child and almost started crying. He gave me $200 to take the child shopping for new clothes and to pre pay for a few haircuts. The mom talked with the social worker and it wasn’t until I brought it up that something was done. The bio mom was the better caregiver. For some reason it didn’t matter how many hoops bio mom successfully jumped through. The system decided in the beginning that reunification wasn’t an option. Things have changed a lot. Foster mom became adoptive mom. Even though I never told bio mom a thing adoptive mom started to distrust me. I was cut out of the child’s life when he was 7. He’s 24 now. He found me online and sent me the sweetest message telling me he remembers our trips to Disneyland and all the fun stuff we would do. To me he felt like a son.

Can I just say, I love that even though Miss A is no longer in FC you still respect her and her privacy by keeping her face hidden. Maybe it’s an agency rule or by her choice but either way as a fellow foster mama, I know how important that is!! I’m also glad she’s allowed to come back and visit. That’s a testimony to what fantastic foster parents you two are.

Tell Miss A that there’s absolutely no way Sawyer will forget her! I used to nanny 3 boys, and stopped nannying them when the youngest was ~2.5 years old. I was so scared he would forget me since I hadn’t known him as long as I’d known his older brothers. But I would still see them once every month or so, and the other 2 boys and the parents would still talk about me all the time, and I’d always see them for birthdays and holidays. Now he’s 6 years old and has never once forgotten who I was and I’m positive it will be the same between Sawyer and Miss A 🥰

I had 2x nanny’s from 6months to 3.5 and still remember them and have fond memories of them even now as an adult.

A tip that my grandmother taught me about icing take the icing out of the container and you whip it with a beater it doubles the amount of icing that you have.

So good to see you're staying in touch! I spent a year as a nanny all the way back in 2015. The youngest of the children was 3 when I left, and we've only seen each other irl twice since then. But every now and then we skype and the kid, who is now about to turn 9, still knows me and still chats to me on Skype! So I have no doubt that, as you will keep talking about Miss A and Sawyer will see her picture, she'll forever be a part of his life!
I think it is so nice that A was allowed to stay i am sure they are happy with the outcome. How can you not get attached so glad for all involved

Aww, miss A, your friendship with Sawyer doesn’t have to be over when he can talk. I’ve had some little buddies at church who still thought I was cool at 3,4ys old. It’s actually really sweet when they can make “conversation”. 💕 It’s true there’s a difference once they’re little boys instead of toddlers. But you can still be the fun teenager who plays with him:)

I like Miss A's hair, very pretty framing her (blurred) face, 🙂 Coincidentally, a friend who has an almost 4 year old was in hospital for two weeks, she came home and he acted like he was mad at her, was aloof and quiet. I 100% agree with another post here, he will not forget Miss A and I'm sure it didn't take him too long to be back to his usual bubbly self with her.

Thanks for sharing! This is a wonderful story and one of the victories for the foster care . I love being a foster parent, but sometimes I have to refocus and remind myself the reasons why I become a foster parent ( kids). I’m not going to lie I have went to bed some nights wondering if I’m doing the right thing. I’m a combat wounded Veteran and this is harder than when I was oversea. Oh my ms. Darcy is something else!
Also, I invested into a decent digital food thermometer recently and I swear my life changed forever. Sure people will call you a fraud and say that real cooks don't need a thermometer or whatever, but I swear i cook everything to perfection now!!! Steaks a beautiful medium rare, burgers, salmon, etc. Muahahaha... it's so awesome I really recommend one. I recommend a decent digital one too, I found the cheap manual one with just the spinning pointer thing was not that accurate and hard to use... and of course for sugar stuff it's almost required since temp is so important.

I loved this so much! By the title I thought she was back in care and it immediately broke my heart, but she looks fantastic! She looks like shes lost a lot of weight which I don't know is a good or bad thing, but she sounds happy in life (in general). She did mention some acclimation issues but it just takes time. I have a feeling she will be a part of the family forever, no matter the living situation or circumstance. What a great kid.

As you and Miss A were talking about what will happen when you have another long term placement, I suddenly got this super clear pic in my head of all your foster kids coming to some milestones birthday or anniversary just to show you how awesome you both are!
Both of grandparents were foster parents and to this day there are several former foster kids that they still see at least once if not more times a year. One was around so often growing up she was like an aunt.

How old was Miss A when you fostered her and for how long ? A friend of mine got her foster license 4 or 5 years ago. She was given mainly teenage girls and most of them were trouble. Sneaking out at night, starting fights in school, meeting up with boys and visiting their family behind her back. Some of the moms were no help and even made the situation worse. Encouraging bad behavior, secret unscheduled visits and so on.
I'm happy to see that you remain in touch with your fosters. Really shows you care/d about them 💞
14 and 1.5years. Yes, different kids and age bring different challenges. There are many ways to redirect and protect the kids from those types of behaviors. I hope she was able to learn and adapt for the kids who followed. We learn from every experience and try to keep being better.
For sugar glass, after you pour it onto the pan but before it starts to cool, hit it with a torch to pop all those bubbles! Fun tip I learned from my momma.

when i was in foster care and there former foster daughter came i remember she was 18 i was 13 she was supposed to sleep on the couch but when she came in drunk she came upstairs crawled in my bed and i slept on couch , my foster parents went crazy next morning, i was a very shy girl and at the time had no confidence , my foster parents was amazing
