It's been a while since I started a tv show reaction series here on UA-cam! I'm so excited to check out the premiere episode of Shogun! Set in Japan in 1600 and starring Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, the series focuses on the conflict between 5 regents in Japan and how it is thrown into upheaval by the arrival of a Protestant/Dutch ship whose pilot wants to challenge the power of the Portuguese Catholics in Asia. This show is amazing for sure, the original was also great. Was so happy to see Scorpion I mean Sanada haha casted as Torinaga! Nice hairstyle Molly, your natural hair almost looks like auburn brown or maybe it's just the lighting? I know that one dude who got boiled like MK Fatality haha the Dead Bath!💀☠
17:55...It was very common right up until at least the 19th century for sailors not to know how to swim (the superstition being that if you knew how to then your ship was more likely to sink and you'd have to use that skill. Also if your ship sunk in the middle of the ocean where would you swim to...far better to die quickly than prolong your suffering).
I love how everything we need to know about Toranaga's essential character and strategy, we learn in the very first scene with him and his falcon.
This show is sublimely well crafted.

Normally seppuku is an individual responsibility of the one who has caused offence or dishonor so he didn't have to bring his son into it which emphasises he acts without thinking.
That's why Mariko was faulting him.
He offered to commit seppuku and disinherit his own lineage in order to redeem the honor of his lord, as he had tarnished his lord's name through his own selfish actions. To sever the lineage, his son also had to die similarly.
And drawing a sword in that situation itself was a crime punishable by death, so there was also the purpose of apply to protect honor before it was imposed as a punishment.

I am Japanese. Some people seem to be making a fuss that there are no black people in SHOGUN. If there are people who are complaining, I think they should just write the story themselves, decide on the cast, and create an attractive work. Decades before this era, a black slave who served Nobunaga was named Yasuke and became a samurai. However, Nobunaga was assassinated and Yasuke was stripped of his samurai status and disappeared. Before him, there were no black people in Japan. And there are no samurai who have black blood. Also, at the time of this drama, there were no Americans coming to Japan, only Europeans. Also, there were no black aristocrats in Europe at the time.
It's not about being factual it's about appeasing the Woke😂
No-one is complaining. People over react to one article.
Who cares about historical accuracy when we can prioritize representation and inclusion by including black people for the enjoyment of modern viewers?
I haven't read seen or heard a single complaint like this. I've read dozens of people freaking out that somebody, somewhere, DARES have that opinion, but never seen it in the wild. I think y'all just got trolled.
